Zone question

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I have recently learned that with the new zone map that I am now in Zone 8, which I think is good. What I do not know is if it is A or B. What does the A and B mean on the Zone map? Thank you.

I don't know a lot about this but....When I was looking around earlier this year (edit: where "this year" means "last year") there was an updated USDA Hardiness Zone Map that came out in 2003 that was in draft form. That version shifted some of the zone lines and I think it got rid of the A and B labels. It looks like this draft version is no longer available through the USDA. At least that is what this site says:

http://www.ahs.org/publications/usda_hardiness_zone_map.htm

Here is the link to the main Zone Map. The maps at this site are not very detailed.

It looks like the zone lookup tool here at DG (which does have detailed maps) uses the 2003 draft version. The draft edition places my house in zone 7 where the previous version placed me in zone 6b, but real close to 7a.

In older USDA maps, the 'a' was the colder, part of the zone, the 'b' was the warmer part of the zone. It just tried to be a little more concise in the temperature ranges.
