I have some mildewy looking junk in one of the beds the builders had put in. We had planned on completely redoing this area anyway and doing away with the first several inches to try to get the mildew out of there. I was wondering about the very few plants that are currently in that bed. Do I have to get rid of them??? Should I just wash their roots and plant them in the fresh soil?? Should I use a water/bleach solution on the roots first? Is mildew really a huge problem or should I just till it in??? The extent of the mildew is rather limited, just a little here and there. It's new to me, though, and I'm SCARED of it :) LOL -- any advice? What would you do if you found mildew in between your mulch and topsoil??? Full sun area.
Thanks!!!
Hugs :)
Soil Mildew and Transplanted Plants
While I think it is probably some other microbe growing there, I would do the same thing. Rake away the mulch, apply captan or other fungicide and cover it with clear plastic for a few weeks. If that didn't kill it, nothing will. Just the plastic and the sun should be enough if the mulch isn't infected. Jessamine
