Seeking opinions on seed storage options. I keep all my seeds in the refrigerator in the basement and my DH is ever complaining about the lack of space for his beverages! I've thought about getting myself my own little dorm size refrigerator to keep my seeds in. He can't justify the extra cost of electricity for me to get one. Anyone have one, and got any idea the energy cost per year to keep your seeds chilly and happy?! We've already got two refrigerators and an upright freezer so I guess I have to understand (somewhat) his concerns.
Thanks!
Sandy
Do your seeds have their own refrigerator?!
Sandy, I don't think most seeds need refrigeration. They need to be kept in dark in a reasonably cool area. However I have very good luck keeping my seeds in what i call my plant room. it is in the northwest corner of my house. The germination isn't 100% after the frist year, actually most seeds don't germinate 100% anytime. I have kept seeds for 5 years or longer. Some types of plant seeds do remain viable longer than others. Hope I haven't confused you. Donna
