Coffee and...part 4 :-D

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

thanks Darius, someone told me they were cymbidium, and I never questioned it. They really do last, up to two weeks, so they are really a good buy. And the cats don't bother them at all, other cut flowers seem to fascinate them and I often find one or more dragged out of the vase and used for floor hockey!!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks again, that's so clever!! Sending to all my catmoms.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Cymbidium is my favorite small orchids. I used to buy them for my desk when I worked in Atlanta. They also last a long time and look really neat. The flowers are not too dissimilar from the Alstroemeria except they grow along a stem instead at the top only of a stem.

Morning all,
just popped in for a wake up coffee.
Wow this coconut stuff is really working, you now have to look hard to see there is a problem. It used to be visible across the room, literally. If it keeps improving at this rate my hands will look 16 again by the end of the month!
Sugar is a strange thing, a very long time ago when i was around 6 my mum went on a diet and gave up sugar in her tea. Wanting to be a big girl as you do at that age I gave up sugar too. @ weeks later she was back on the sugar and stayed on it forever. I couldn't stand the sweet taste and haven't touched it since - don't evenlike it in oatmeal porridge. It hasn't made an iota of difference to my girth though - so perhaps its not what does the damage!! LOL
Darius you sound much better and brighter this morning, thats good - keep it up.
If the housework fairy is short of a job she could always visit me! I 'found' my desk 3 days ago, but its already disappearing again. I can't bear to throw stuff out, if i do you can guarantee I'll need it a few minutes later!! :>)
Got to nip out for a bit but I'll pop by on my way back. Y'all have a good day now.

Gee...I thought I was in here this morning and left a note. Must be 'sometimers' in action again. hehehe

Let's see...I've taken my insulin shot, my morning pills, and did my blood sugar poke (not bad...118 before the insulin! Hooray for me!)...so pass those lemon bars. hehehe (I'm a *baaaaaad* girl.)

Woodspirit...your sister is definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

M5...Thanks for sharing your bouquet. They're gorgeous and certainly look good against that snowy background. "69 years of wear and tear?" Are you counting the time when your parents were only *thinking* about adding you to the family??? C'mon, fess up! :-D (nice nails!) I think that 'kink' must be floating around here in WI...I got up with one so 'kinked up' I could barely bend over. It's all gone now. Maybe I sent in on over to Iowa. :-D

Darius...good to see you here and sounding "up". Thanks for the info on the name of M5's flowers. I've had them given to me in mixed bouquets but never knew what they were. But then I had a hard time identifying miniature glads...so don't go by my abilities. hehehe (How's the dizziness today? Better, I hope.)

Molly, when I first started drinking coffee it was, like a lot of other things, because my DH drank it and I didn't want to waste more than 1/2 a pot. I could only 'hack' it with cream and sugar. Somewhere along the way (probably on one diet or another) I started drinking it black. And now, if I accidently grab someone else's cup with sugar in it...I'm just like Kooger...I nearly gag on the first sip. HAHAHA Now, breakfast cereal is another story. :-D (I LOVE frosted flakes and Frosted mini-wheats...no I don't add *extra* to those...but you should see what DH does to a bowl. YUCK!! ;-)
~ Oh! And thanks for the kick in the butt on that wood working project I've been meaning to get at. When you mentioned painting...it clicked in my head that I wanted to make some decorative birdhouses for my flower beds. NOW it a good time to get that project going.

Good Morning Marcia B...and Kooger

Marcia G...Hi...hope you're feeling 'all better' today. As to the basil cuttings, it all came about by accident. I'd cut a handful of basil to use for dinner, they didn't get used so I stuck them in a big glass of water on my counter and promptly forgot all about it. A couple of days later I noticed the glass was FULL of roots! So, I did it on purpose from midsummer on. Unfortunately, I got so busy in the fall that I forgot my cuttings and they rotted on me. But to answer you question, I just used plain old water.

Mary...you're SO funny! Me *plan* on exercise? LOL Yeah, RIGHT! hehehe I *plan* on doing that in a couple of months...for now...just pass the goodie plate.

Sorry about the order I answered you guys...I was scrolling backwards. (Usually I open another window and read and answer in the proper order. Big Deal! :-D :-D) Y'all still know I read your notes.

Have a good one!

Hi again,

I just dropped in to rest a bit and have some chicken soup before I tackle the paint project. I picked the wood up, some pieces are like 13' long and now my carport is full. Guess I'll have to leave the van in the driveway for the next couple days (I hate that for security reasons).

I just got hired by the lady next door to do the outside of her house. You can't get a better commute than that!!!! And when I need to use the head, I just come to my own house. I'll just wheel that pressure cleaner off my carport over to the left about 6 feet and I'm in her yard. What a deal! I'll get started on her just before the S/Central FL RU.

Well, I finished my soup, better get back to work now. See ya later.....................

Good morning. I'll just have some tea with a bit of honey this morning, no goodies since I'm on my way to town soon and will have lunch with my hubby at the Chinese Restaurant. We have 3 in our town but two of them are not worth a return trip to see if the cook might have been having a bad day the first time. The good one opened last summer and does a very good business, so apparently the folks around here have the same opinion of the other two which must survive on their cocktail lounges.

Mbock, congratulations on the good job you have gotten yourself into. I love hearing these stories about how a person just sort of migrates into a job that is right for them.

Darius, I really enjoyed the cat poem, and even the author's name! Now I know why it takes so long for my cat to walk through the door, and why she sometimes takes 3 steps and sits down on the porch instead of going somewhere, she's not through thinking. She often gets help deciding since I have other things to do and don't want to just stand there holding the door open letting cold air in. My husband says she just wants to be where she isn't, and there are more places outside where she isn't, so out she goes, ready or not.

This cyber kitchen has become a very busy place. It is hard to keep up with who said what, who is doing what, etc. As for me and my house, well, we are both a mess and need help to look a bit organized. I have to do some extra cleaning in the next couple of days because I'm going to be gone for the weekend and my hubby has a buddy comming to visit while I'm gone.

Time to hit the exercise machine for a short session before I leave to stuff myself. See you later.

SHHHHH I am here at "work" at Coronado National Memorial...all my visitors are waching the 9 minute film so I thought I'd sneak in for a wee snack and catch up with what's going on.

I love it here at Coronado...I meet such nice people...today it was one of the people that work at Yellowstone National Park.

OK...back to wirk...save me a goodie for when I get home today. Thanks!! JO

HA! Would anybody actually kid about being this freaking old??? LOL born in the middle of the depression, 1935 and will actually hit three score and ten in October. And I did clean off the desk this morning and found only one over due bill. Hunh. No too bad for a slacker like me. I think we're needing a new thread, it's taking a while to get to the bottom. Molly what a great "commute" and you can take breaks in your own comfy house.

I used to drink my coffee with cream and sugar, but when my kids were babies, I was often too busy to grab the cream and sugar and just kept warming it up until it was nearly black. Then I drank it black for a long time, and now I'm back to loading it up with flavored (read fake) creamers and sweetener. OK I'll clean up my act and start using Splenda, but I don't think I can be talked out of the flavored creamer. Bad enough I'm sacrificing caffeine. Can't be all good all the time. (snicker----like anybody believes I'm good even part of the time.....)

Anybody want a leftover Christmas turkey sandwich?? Unfroze it yesterday to make turkey tettrazini for dinner, and had too much breast to use it all. (There's a first for everything! lol) So it's my lunch today. We'll toast the bread and put some nice crunchy veggies in with the turkey...or shall I just put the bowl on the table and let everybody build their own? Come on, dig in, I'm not into third time leftovers!!!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Yep! We're growing in numbers and sometimes I don't have to time make mention of everyone who pops in. But I sure don't want anyone to stop leaving notes. I enjoy every single thing that every single person writes even if I don't comment. So if any of you are like me and have problems keeping up...don't worry about it! Just run through the room, touching everyone on the shoulder as you exclaim "HI EVERYONE!!!" We'll know we were included. :-D

I just came up from the basement for my lunch...mushroom soup...from a can! Oh well...I can't expect DH to pamper with fresh homemade soup regularly, no can I? hehehehe

I took inventory of my wintering over geraniums. LOL I *only* have 51 plants! When I told DH how many I had...you should have seen his face. Gulp! LOL No problem...I'll have over 100 before spring. :-D (I always wanted to know what it was like to *too* much of something. I'll bet I find out this year.)

It's just way to nice a day to waste all of it in the basement...I'm getting my pack boots on and heading out with my camera. Right NOW! (Well, not until I tell M5 that I thought from looking at her picture she *might* be 45 +/- but definitely NOT 69 y/o. Lady, you DO look good! :-))

See ya later~

grrrr - what a day.. started out good, but went downhill fast: Went to the huff an puff place for an hour, then on to a friends house to see her new paint job, then picked up MIL for a trip to the hospital for a blood test (she complained about something the entire way...and had to park in the back forty), then raced to my DS's house to wait for the repairman. When I got there, I found he stayed home today and didn't even have the courtesy to call me so I didn't have to make the long trip... grrrrr again!!!

I left in a frump and stomped in my house - promptly got out the rest of those peanut cookies and woofed them down along with a diet coke. Good, now they are alllll gone!!! Blood pressure is soaring - I'll get over it, just give me an hour to settle down.

House is a mess (clutter here too), plus I think I smell the wonderful odor of a mouse in the ceiling....and the light burned out as I was coming down the stairs. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed!!! Tomorrow will be better. See ya in the chat tonight - promise I will be in a better mood!!!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Sarv...I don't mean to laugh but when I read the MIL "complaining" I just had to! Sounds SO familiar. Hope the rest of your afternoon is worth the effort. (Cookies and diet coke, eh? That's *my* method of dealing with....well, you get the picture, I'm sure. :-D)

So the painting is done for the day and I wanted to take a moment to share a thought.

I don't know if you would call it an epiphany or simply just an awakening (not having a dictionary, that might mean the same thing). I have been somewhat isolated from everything for the past five years, just going to work and coming home, gardening and computering.

Recently I have been meeting new people here in the area through work and social gatherings as well as meeting many people through Dave's Garden. I came to the realization the other day, that there aren't anymore "old" people around.

I have a friend that is 82, I thought she was a very young 70 and recently I met a couple other ladies that were in their 60's and I found that very hard to believe too. I know, I know, I'm only 51, and many will say that's not old, but through my eyes these days, there just are not any old people. They are all my age.

I also wanted to say that in spite of the "changes" that occurred in the past 5 months, I have come to realize that I am a very lucky person. The bounce seems to be back, I am in excellent health, have a good job, allowing me security as well as the freedom to take time off whenever I like. My siblings have come through for me like they never have before, I'm finding old friends again and meeting many new wonderful friends. For those of you who perservered with me, listening to my self centered moaning and groaning about life, thank you so much. You can never know how much it meant to me.

:^)))

It certainly becomes a whole different world, doesn't it Molly?

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

As someone said waaaay back when this thread started, it beats paying a shrink!! They opine that women live longer than men because we have the support of our female friends and family, and I firmly believe that that's true. We can whine and moan and kvetch about our problems, and get it off our chests, and it becomes a burden shared........and then we go on about our daily lives and feel better for it. There are so many wonderful women here, with so much talent and intelligence, and if we feel like wallowing in our troubles once in a while, nobody holds it against us! And there is no shortage of inspiration and no limit to sharing....You are all just too good to be true!

Julie, thanks for the kind words about my age, it's amazing what a good slathering of cosmetics and decent lighting can do....!! And FIFTY ONE geraniums!! Here I was feeling good about the two pathetic specimans I salvaged! Granted, one has a blossom popping out....but I'm not telling them about yours, lest they keel over and die of envy. Or loneliness . Is there any room to walk around down there?? Or do you have walkways built over the indoor garden? LOL

Sarv, tomorrow has to be better, what a day you had. I hope you gave that repairman a load of guilt! My first MIL was a pain in the patootie, lived with us for four years and never lifted a finger but managed to get to church every single day. Spent the rest of the day complaining about everything else. Have another cookie. No, have two.... and pour Darius another cup of tea. See y'all later this evening if DH doesn't get on the computer before me.

I had some good news today the little lump that hs been scaring the socks off me since before Christmas isn't the dreaded Big C!! Doc has me on antibiotics and I have to watch the blood pressure, but that is all handleable. Life looks good today, I should have listened to that wee small voice that said "Its going to be OK" but I thought it was my wishes talking. I might just catch up with Roadrunner and M5 someday!!
Life looks so good I went out and did some work on my veg patch and then took a walk in the sunshine. What a difference a day makes.
Who would like a share of my OJ - pure fresh and not from concentrate? Healthy too, though I might just sneak a cookie to go with it!

Carol - I bet you are jumping for joy - I quit my complaining when I hear what others are experiencing.
Darius - loved that!! I even had my foot a tapping.

I truly believe that women are such a support to each other. We rant and rave, **** and moan, laugh and cry - and somehow feel that our lives aren't so bad. Everyone has troubles and if they don't - they just aren't being honest!! That's life. Full of ups and downs.

I love my DH dearly, but us gals that hang together are planning on moving together into an apartment when the old men geezers kick the bucket. We'll probably end up at the 'old folks' home together!! None of us knowing each other!!

Life is good - (done whining here)

ps - meezers - I was ticked at my SON for not calling me - he acted like 'no big deal' that I had driven way over to his house..

Hello again, Oh good, the water is hot and the tea bags still holding out, not too many of us tea drinkers here.

I survived my trip to town. Ha, not much to survive in Baker City, pop about 9500. I got a few bargains and picked up a few things at the Salvation Army thrift store where the real bargains are. I bought 2 square decorative storage jars, they look like about quart size but shorter and fatter, with plastic lids with wood on the outside and a cute wooden knob on the top. Not for storage, they are gonna be terrarriums! I have nice wide windowsills and a prefect spot for them, gotta find some moss and mini ferns. I've never made one, but this looks like fun, only 75 cents each. I also got a plastic covered metal rack I'll use in the greenhouse to put some plants on the second story since I don't have any wall hung shelves out there. Probably it was a closet shoe rack in it's first life. Plus fish food, 2 different kinds for about a dollar for both.

Back later, time for horse and people feeding.

Hi, all. Great news Carol-hugs to you. Darius, sounds like you are feeling better yeah. Just dropping in for a minute, as it is too cold to sit and chat tonight, just wanted to let everyone know how much I enjoy the visits. I was going through old photo albums-what a memory flashback. So many good times and great memories (some sad there-but most all are happy).
Well off to the afgan and tea.
Hugs to all and stay warm--or cool if you are where there is some outside heat!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Man, I made the most tender pork chops for supper tonight. I had boneless 2 center cuts... heated a skillet with a Tbs. of butter and a Tbs. of olive oil and lightly browned both sides of the chops. Added 1 cup of white wine and turned the heat (elec) to the very lowest setting, put the lid on, and they simmered about 2 hours. They were delicious as well as tender.

Hope I will feel better tomorrow and bring something interesting and delicious to our... whoops, Julie's table.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

White wine sounds lovely for the chops, but I gotta tell ya, I'd rather drink the wine than put them in the chops.

tough choice.

Nice talking to ya tonight and keep getting better.

Hi again, I'll just poke around here and see what I can find for dessert......

Darius, you definitely sound like you are feeling better, I think I will copy your dinner tomorrow since I bought some marked down pork chops today. $1 off each package since this was the last day they could sell them.
I try to grab the marked down meats and either use them in a day or two or freeze them. It saves a lot of money and adds to the adventure of deciding what's for dinner. I try to keep some white wine around and remember once using red wine on chicken, turned it pink, but it tasted ok. Darn, why didn't I think of buying some fresh mushrooms today, they would be good with the chops.

Well, now I'm off to the houseplant forum to look for info on making a garden in a jar. See you in the morning.

the recipe coq au vin uses red wine too and it's delicious.

Today, I plan on fixing that 'climbing' problem I have in my basement..in other words...it's *time* to clean up the mess and make a new one. Can you believe that DH asked me to do a sewing project for him??? Honestly! Can't he understand I don't remember how to thread those machine? LOL (Besides, I'll have to move all my plants off the sewing table in order to find it...and what on earth did I do with my thread collection? Oh yeah, it's on the shelves. Right there in plain sight. tsk tsk tsk...I really need to HIDE that. :-D

I think it's time for a fresh cup of coffee...after all it only took me an hour to read and write this. Actually, my problem is that I took a detour when I opened that second window and ended up reading the "Parking Lot" instead of just this thread.

Hey LAURA!! I had no idea what you've been going through with that Green Card fiasco! :-O You must be beside yourself and ready to...well, *scream* would be good. Yawwwwn Stretchhhhhhhhhh Good Morning everyone! (I don't have Julie's patience...lol) We have sunshine today, at least for now and littlest cat is doing a good job of soaking up as much as possible. Weathermen predict snow flurries later...as if they are ever right! Wish I could have had a job that paid that much money with that wide a margin of error! Julie, take it easy on that clean up task, it doesn't pay to overdo. Plus you wouldn't want it to become a habit...

No treats for me this morning, just a banana and one of these tasty little clementines...going out for lunch with DD and DIL, and we are going to the Pie place. Since I indulged in a bowl of peanut butter cup ice cream last night, I have to be ...not good....MODERATE. Wish me luck LOL

I'm on my third box of those clementines, thinking maybe I'll use them for WS, since they will drain well, and I have no other use for them. At one point I had about two dozen of those plastic trays they sell bedding plants in, but I finally took them back to the garden center for recycling. Now that I've found about winter sowing, I wish I would have kept them. I'm generally not that efficient at getting rid of clutter... so that oughta learn me. (snort!)
Darius, have you thought any more about making kitchen witches? I know you are still kind of under the weather, and not yet up to rummaging through your storage boxes, but, I suspect that wouldn't stop your creative brain from going full blast. Those chops sounded delicious, our local market has a two-fer sale on pork loins today, you've given me some direction for dinner tonight. I sure run out of ideas after years of cooking, plus I'm getting bone lazy...

Also, regarding cat car trips, my sister drags her poor tabby Chester back and forth from NC to MI every year, and he's gotten pretty smart about disappearing the day before she plans to leave, in order to avoid it. Last year she left him there, and her DD went and picked him up the next day and took him to her house for the summer. Can't figure out how he knows, but he must pick up clues that shout "danger danger!! car trip coming" Mine go willingly into the carrier but yodel pitifully all the way to the vet...and you know what that sounds like. I have to keep the car windows closed lest someone thinks I am torturing a child.

That's it for me this morning. Not checking any other threads. That would chew up another hour of time, as I am so easily (and willingly) distracted.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Hey, darius, I found a Kitchen Witch pattern in one of the craft magazines I'm giving away. As soon I get my camera back from my daughter, I'll post a pic.

Feeling much chipper today - just seemed to be on the verge of blubbering all day yesterday. TOOOO much stress the last few months. This too shall pass.........

Coffee is almost gone so better do some of the things I should have done yesterday! :)

Found a bucket of lard in the freezer so I'm making the Cinnamon Bread today. Yum, yum!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

TIA for the kitchen witch pattern! That's one of the things my sister and I will do while I'm in FL as she has 2 sewing machines and a serger.

Aweee (((Hugs))) back at ya! Gotta go- going to work- more seed money!!! LOL

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. Easily and willingly distracted, that's me! Is this chair by the window taken? I love seeing out into the yard.

Kooger, sorry you are having a rough time but glad you are pulling out of it. Yum, cinnamon bread! I'll be back for a taste.

Meezers, don't you just kick yourself when you throw something out and then find the perfect use for it? I have a shed full of stuff, so full I can hardly walk in there. I need to get it organized but when the day only warms up to near freezing it is hard to be motivated. Who knows what I might find in there that I've been needing? Maybe if I tackled one corner at a time..... well, not today or tomorrow, and I will be gone this weekend, and that's why my shed has become such a mess.

This morning I downloaded some photos I have taken recently, some of the ones with the most potential didn't turn out. Last night I took moonlight on snow pictures, about a dozen or so of them, and they all came out black. The camera was set on the twilight setting, no lens cover. I did get a couple a few days ago of the moon just above the horizon, taken when the sun was still lighting up the sky although it had already gone behind the mountains, so I can show you that. What I wanted to capture was the effect of the full moon on the snow, it looks almost florescent and unreal. My sister and I used to go out and play on nights like that, our parents didn't know we weren't asleep. We were just grade schoolers, but would go out our upstairs bedroom window, tiptoe across the porch roof and climb down on to a high fence, climb down that and go play in the snow, sometimes a long way from home, then get back into the room via the fence and the roof. Later we lived in a single story house and that made our escapades easier.

Time to get my horses fed and get busy on the house cleaning and laundry. See you later. Save me some cinnamon bread!

Morning all,
Thanks for all the shared joy it makes me even happier - loved the Happy dance Darius - where do you find all these things! Return hugs all round ((((hug)))).
I gather you have decided to go to Florida then Darius? It will do you good to be warm and with physical company, hope you will still be able to join us for the odd chat though. When do you go?
Poor old Kooger, dealing with the INS is very stressful. I have been there - all last summer we were on the Green Card trail too. It just seems to go on forever. Extra hugs to keep you going(())
Julie I'm noy sure how you keep up with everything that everyone says - I often miss something and after I've read your reply have to go back and find it - but I know I read every post on my way through - more senior moments I suppose.
Travelling with cats is an experience! We had one called Miaow who kept us company as we moved about the UK. The first time the vet recommended a cardboard carry case. She hated it when we finally got her in and loaded she screamed and screamed, then all went quiet. There was a tearing sound and she was loose in the car. She had put her claws in the vent holes and ripeed the side from top to bottom. Actually she travelled reasonably well loose once over the escape, but we didn't dare open a window even a crack or stop for a bathroom break in case we lost her. The kids were totally desperate when we arrived!! After that we had a proper wire cage for her but one she could see out of all round, but she was a noisy traveller, she was called Miaow for a reason!
Think I might go for a walk now - the sun is shining and i could use the fresh air. Y'all keep well now. See ya.

Great shot, Mary! I'm sure it looked even better in person.

Save me some cinnamon bread too, Laura!

Yes, I have pretty much decided I will go to FL, but not when. I'm 2 months into the 3 months max. time the state has to answer my Medicaid application and I have to find out from my county SS worker how being on vacation might affect that. I will take my computer, and my oxygen concentrator unless I can get Lincare to get me one delivered there. It's a $250 a month rental so I will probably get charged for 2 unless I take this one.

I'll stop back by later...

Afternoon everyone - just got back from cleaning my cousin's house. He is my age, but had a stroke, then cut his arm off in an accident. I love him dearly, so volunteered to clean for him (his cleaning lady died) She must not have been much of a cleaner because his house was absolutely filthy. His mind isn't quite right and sometimes he gives me 10 bucks and some times 80. Doesn't matter to me, I just do it because....

Yikes, the roads here were awful this morning- I slid right thru the intersection - very icy. It was raining lightly, then freezing. Really slowed me down!!!

Yum - pork chops sound good - but none in the freezer. Really need to hit the grocery store soon.

Cookies are all gone here, I need to look thru the receipe file and dig out another new one to try.

Hey -Darius - I am going to Fla too! Down by Bradenton - my folks are there and I want to visit before they depart from this earth. Like to take a leisurely trip down and stop and see the sights - but I worry so about being caught in the mts. that we usually zooooom down!!

Hope all is well with everyone - springs a coming!! Sun even peeked out for an hour this afternoon...

I'm SOOOOO Excited!!!
I saw my first ROBINSSSSSSS at noontime!
I'm in the kitchen cleaning that blasted stove when DH comes up for lunch. He makes a couple of meatloaf sandwiches
(there's leftovers if anyone wants one! :-D)
He heads out to the 'sun room' to watch the news and on his way, "Hey! Robins!" I'm thinking..."yeah, right." "No, *really*!" I told him it probably just the snowbirds or cardinals. Then he said "NO! They're ROBINS!" I went to look and sure enough, there were robins...a whole mess of them...in the snow across the road!

I grabbed my camera, and shot through the dirty window with my camera on FULL zoom (Not a good picture cuz I can't hold still with that much zoom.) But I got pictures.

Now, when I looked at the pictures I saw something else. :-O) Cedar Waxwings??? They don't show up until the mulberry berries are ripe! Holy CO-ouw (That's my Okie accent sneaking out when I'm excited hehehe)

Sorry...I didn't take time to read everyone else's posts this time. :-D
