Gilbert Gnarly???
Who is near Cincinnati, Ohio?? Can you say Round Up??
Gilbert Gnarly is a fictional character performed on the radio (AM 700 WLW) by Gary Burbank. He calls businesses and acts goofy on the phone. I think he once called Kodak and was asking where his pictures were. He bought a disposable camera and he told Kodak he put it in the trash but was wondering where his pictures were. That kind of stuff :)

jen (and all) --(I'm lurking here--and) your brother's e-mail was hilarious. How true all of it is!! and don't get me started on it! We sit around our dinner table at night and talk on and on about Cincinnati-isms...
And BTW we're NOT having Goetta at the RU. (Who knows what's in it!) I already gave in to the Skyline chili thing! (ick!) now I know I'll really get it! AND, you know what else is sacreligious?!! We like UDF better than the 'G' brand!! Oh, g-d, now I've said it!!! Now we will have to move back to L.A.
Well, we do like Reds Baseball. We do like the Bengals--Go Carson Palmer (from L.A. of course!) We do like all the forest preserves and parks. We do like Hudy (and Makers Mark, does that count?). We do like RiverBend, the Art Museums, the Aronoff, JeanRo's, Jungle Jim's (down on Kroger) let's see, what else? The mild winters. AND the nice people (you!). So I think we'll stay (unless we get kicked out!)
So see you at the (NO GOETTA) RU. Have a great weekend. t. (judy)
Did you say you'd like me to bring goetta?
What is goetta made of? (I was afraid to look up the recipe after what everyone is saying and the fact that y'all don't want it at the RU.)
Jenbrink, I don't have cable either but I rented the Blue Collar Comedy Tour and was hooked on Larry the Cable Guy!
And Badseed, I thought I was going to die laughing on their trip to Victoria's Secret and the "eatin britches". "I liked em so much I bought 5 pair for my girlfriend and ate 3 on the way to her house!!!!"
Now, his "Oh Lord, I apologize for that!" just cracks me up. He's going to be in Louisville on March 18th and I wanted to go see him. Tickets are $34.00 a piece, but can't do it right now. :(
He's just so much like people around our parts, LOL.
I am working on making it to the RU. Hopefully, I can get my driver to bring me...:)
:) Kathy
Howie and I are definitely not Skyline chili fans. I'm up to trying this goetta stuff. These people you're talking about must be about the equivalent of WTVN radio's commentaries featuring Billy Ray Vulgar, eh? We loved those bits.
I don't like Skyline....yuck. Gold Star and Dixie Chili is much better. You have to go to KY to get Dixie Chili. Only 3 of them in Northern KY. I love Dixie Chili :)
We are definately Gold Star people! The only time I will touch Skyline is in chili dip. We ate it at the restaurant a couple of years ago, after not having it for years and something in the flavor made me absolutely ill. Empress Chili is pretty good too. We also like the Cincinnati Recipe Chili! Of course, my ex-brother in law came up with that one. He sold it several years ago.
Goetta is just pork, beef and pinhead oats with some special herbs and spices thrown in. It mostly tastes like a mild sausage to me. Maybe it is the oats that throw people?
Skyline's is kind of bitter. I like a sweeter tomato chili. Actually, I love Wendy's chili.
Yeah, but Wendy's is different. Wendy's is more like a tex-mex sort of chili full of beans and chunks of meat and veggies. It's not CINCINNATI chili. LOL
On the Blue Collar comedy--isn't Jeff Foxworthy from Dayton? Somebody told me that once.
Now, if we get enough Kentuckians we can have mush or grits at the RU, Misty. At least you know what's in those!
And about that GOETTA--isn't the factory for it in NKY?
Gosh, all your talk about goetta, I swear you are just begging to have some. LOL I think the only brand we buy at Kroger is Glier's and right off, I don't know where that is made. There are some other brands that are just gross! My hubby's Great Aunt always made it from scratch but she has passed on. :( Vic on the other hand did share her recipe with me but I haven't made it yet. If all this goetta talk keeps up, I am bringing my cast iron skillet and a bunch of goetta. :)
http://www.goetta.com/splash.shtml ... Judging from the website's name, this business IS goetta. It sound pretty tasty to me.
Now, that's what I am talking about! It really is good stuff. It is one of those foods you either love or hate though. LOL
I've only been to Skyline Chili once and got sick, I didn't want to be the one that said it, but I was so ill, I will never eat it again. Of course, a few years ago I brought chili to the KY RU...does anyone remember? I had two kinds, one of them made with buffalo meat :) I thought it was rather tasty and outpowered all those others LOL (just my observation).
Already, I'm gonna check out goetta now. :) Tabasco, I know what mush and grits are and can't say that I'm fond of them either. :)
Oh my, y'all are a mess! LOL
(Admitting here that I like grits! Throw some butter, salt and pepper on them and call me happy.)
Badseed - throw in some cheese and Texas Pete and you have a meal! :)
Texas Pete? LOL Dare I ask?
It's kind of like Tabasco sauce only not quite as hot. It's a regional sauce based out of Winston Salem, NC. Yummy good stuff!!!
Eeeeeeew too hot...LOL Most I like on my grits is maybe a little butter and a touch of sugar :) (never had grits until I joined the Army)
Yummy stuff though! Hey Michelle, want I send you some Texas Pete cuttings! LOL!
Come on Jon, live a bit! Try it - I dare you!
Nicole
:P I'm just not a hot sauce type of person. People give me a hard time about this but I can't stand the following (LOL) - green peppers, red peppers, jalepena (spelling?), ONIONS and anything else super strong or spicey...lol I can take onions if they are cooked really well but raw onions make me want to vomit. I can eat White Castles with onions and even onion rings! hehe But NO raw onions. Yuck. I can however eat salsa. That to me taste more tomatoey than anything. But throw peppers or onions on a pizza and you may as well throw it in the garbage as far as I'm concerned...LOL I just tell people, hey...at least my stomach will last long than yours :P
Wow. Good thing you're not in my kitchen! You would be starving!
There's always cereal ;) (my favorite meal probably..LOL)
OK, so that is one thing I don't smother with garlic! Got Milk? LOL!!!
I think we go through about 2 or 2.5 gallons of milk here every week - for just 2 people. I love milk :) I'm the one that uses most of it.
We are hot sauce junkies! We always eat the extra, extra hot or very hot sauce. I like my Asian food at a level 11. LOL They ask 1-10 and I answer 11. I love french fries with hot sauce and tartar sauce. We went to Buffalo Wild WIngs last night and had the X HOT X WET wings with extra blue cheese. Yum and yum. We always say it isn't good unless it hurts twice. :O
This Ring of Fire stuff sounds pretty good -- saw a segment on FoodTV's "Food Finds". http://www.ringoffirehotsauce.com/ Howie wants to try their habanero x-tra hot sauce some time. I'll pass!
Wow wee! You're kids like hot stuff too? Brandon inherited my loved of pickles/olives/capers. I hate an entire gallon of pepperonci's while I was pregnant. Yummy!
About hot sauce--we were down in New Orleans a few months ago and we drove an extra 300 miles to tour the tabasco sauce factory. Well, I went to see the Avery Island Jungle Gardens, but my husband wanted to see the factory....we like hot sauce, too.
We probably have about 40 or 50 bottles of different kinds in our cupboard....our cat is named Tabasco and of course on DG my user name is 'tabasco', (mainly because I was looking at the cat when I signed up...not very imaginative.)
well, I am glad that you got away from the Goetta while I was gone...;-)
Your post reminds me, what's with that road down in Cincy named Tobasco? What's the story on that? My spellchecker kept wanting to correct it, but that's how it was at various websites so I figured some founding father goofed!
With a name like tabasco, I sure hope you like the stuff. LOL The cat is a surprise though.
I have only had habaneros once and have to say I do not care for the flavor. There is something soapy about the taste. I ended up rubbing my runny nose, then my eye with the habanero juice and let's just say the whole experience was somewhat painful. I wouldn't have minded but they did not even taste good! Give me a good old jalapeno any day!
Kimberley, right next to 275 at the Beechmont 125 exit, there is a road called Mt. Carmel-Tabasco. That is the only one I can think of. I will have to do some research to see how it got it's name.
ALL of my kids do not like hot stuff. The eldest eats most of it and the second and third eat some of it. The funny thing is I live on the stuff and ate it prego and they all liked it when they were younger and now only one of them really loves it.
Hee hee! Hey Badseed, Johnny's Seeds has a Jalapeno called Delicas (I think that's the name) that is very mild but still has the Jalapeno flavor. I am out of seed but have some seedlings and will try to remember to save some. They are great! I usually pick and eat them while I'm out in the garden they are so mild. Yummm...
Goetta and Skyline. Now that is heaven to me !! How can anyone not like goetta fried, with eggs???
I can feel my cholesteral going up as I read this!
Goetta today in the cafeteria :) $1 per slice I didn't get any today.
