"Dehydrated Water. To use, add water." LOL!!!
I'd be a person to buy something like that and not get the joke til after my check cleared!
Coffee and...Part 3 :-)
Blooms, I'm glad you stopped in and gave us the gist of what was going on. I didn't really figure that Darius would leave us voluntarily. :-D
I've been in the middle of a few things like that on other sites...and I've left on my own accord. Now I know that my leaving is not always the wisest way to deal with 'jerks' that don't seem to know their place. "But first".....
Darius, that's a great sale on the KA flours. I don't think we can get them here in the boonies unless we order from Baker's. I'm really anxious to hear how your new starters work for you. Keep us informed and maybe, just maybe, I'll splurge and try some starters myself.
Love that "Dehydrated Water" LOL
We've got about 4" of snow so far...have no idea where it will end. Snow angels, anyone??? :-D
Hey, you know....we've been talking for several weeks now, and no one has asked the *ultimate* question for our little group. What is your plant *passion*?
Obviously, at this point in time, my plant *passion* is ANYTHING that will live and grow in *my* yard. LOL But I do have to admit to wee bit of gluttony when it comes to daylilies ....uh, no....Iris....wait...the lilium, I *love* lilium. OK, I'm a sucker for ALL of them. :-D
~julie~
Ready for another cuppa.... and I brought Pecan Shortbread. Had to nix the Cinnamon Bread until I get more lard. It's home rendered and after a year in the frig, it's starting to smell rancid. So I made shortbread instead. It's really yummy, so buttery and nutty tasting. And simple too.
Pecan Shortbread
3/4 lb. butter
3/4 c. brown sugar
3 c. flour
3/4 c. chopped pecans
Cream butter and sugar, mix in flour, then nuts. Spread in 9x13 pan. Bake at 350 deg., about 20 min.
(I put plastic wrap over the dough and roll it flat with my pizza roller. As dry as it was today, I barely used 2 3/4 c. flour.)
I'll post cin. bread recipe in recipe forum later. Not tonight. Keyboard is doing funky things on me and doing a delay typing. really annoying.
Have a good night all! Truste!!
Yup Julie, about 4 hours should do it, maybe less if you have a nice warm spot for rising. I used to put my bread bowl in my water bed LOL minus people and cats of course, nicely covered. I missed that bed so much after we graduated to the king, I had to get one of those under the mattress pad heaters. And still I delude myself that the cats come up there to sleep because they looooooove me. ha. Favorite plants, oh please!! I am partial to roses, in spite of the dreadful things that happen to them, but I couldn't begin to pick from all the ones that I lust for, even the ones that fail me year after year. I've tried clematis which everyone else seems to grow with no effort, and have wiped out three since we've been in this house, but daisies, and hosta, and anything scentedor colorful or long blooming, and all kinds of annuals, and blah blah the list is endless.....if it can survive our clay soil the jap beetles and erratic watering, I adore it..
Things I misplace daily. My coffee cup. My glasses. Mail. Keys. Grocery list. Lighter. Whatever it was I had in my hand when I went in the other room. The cordless phone(s). I consider it my daily walking/exercise program.
Yes, it's been snowing here since after dinner, very fine driftable flakes with 5 to 10" by morning. DH will get to use his the snowblower on both upper and lower drives. Guy across the street blows all his snow right out into the road. I think we should blow it back on his driveway, but you know how that would end up ...LOL I'd like to go out tomorrow and build a snowman, but the little kid next door is such a stiff, he's no fun at all, and I hate to do it alone. I'd ask DH but he'd give me "the look", you know, the one where they won't say they think you've taken leave of your senses but that's what they really think. Well, I'm off to bed with a book, and my glasses...........glasses? where did I leave them this time?
Laura...that Pecan Shortbread sounds scrumptuous. I'll copy that recipe into my cardfile program, too.
When I opened up my cardfile today to put M5's bread recipe in it...I really shouldn't go in there very often...makes me *want* to cook! LOL I found scads of super biscotti recipes. I like having biscotti around because it's hard to eat a lot of it at one time (chompers aren't as good as they used to be, and I'm not a dunker...really don't like those crumbs in the bottom of my coffee cup. LOL)
M5...I know *that* look. I get it from my DH every time I start acting like a kid. Darn men...They want us to *grow* up. :-D (whining) But I like to pla-aaaay.
LOVE your "daily misplace" list. LOL and that one I can relate to *and* add more!
The WATER BED??!! ;-D there's a spot I never thought of for making dough rise. (I'm not going *any* farther with that one. hehehe)
We've got 5" now according to Madison's weather and heading for that 10-12" by noon tomorrow. I sure hope everyone in the path of this storm is safe and warm, it's going to be a nasty one.
See y'all tomorrow...
~julie~
P.S. M5...your glasses are probably on top of your head. That's where mine usually are. LOL
sounds like you got our snow - we got wind and more wind and ice. It's been blowing since 7 pm. Wakes me up a lot!
Mornin all.....I'm getting over a bug and still feeling puny - so I won't breathe on anyone. 2 days of fever, aches and pains and just feeling yucky. I'm not doing much this weekend either - just going to relax. Just thought I'd stop in to say hi.....
Here mbock, have some juice. It's fresh squeezed kumquat juice. Even picked the seeds out.:-D
Feel better!
mbock - don't breathe my way!!! This is the healthiest winter I've had - not sick once (watch, I'll probably come down with something tomorrow for bragging)
got my housework all done - the trash way - that was great!! feel pretty good about doing it so quickly
Got up and had a piece of the wood chip tasting toast (good for ya tho), then lost control and had a bowl of last nights enchalatas (spelled wrong I know), and last of all a handfull of choco chips. I'd share, but the cupboards are bare here. Maybe I'll make some of those scones today (when I get the receipes!)
Had 12 inches of the white stuff last night - winds supposed to kick up to 46 mph this afternoon. Sounds like a good day to stay inside.
I'm ready for a hand of cards - anybody want to play?? Come on over (bring your own snacks tho....)
Good Morning, Ladies...
Laura, you're up mighty early this morning...the real wind hasn't started here yet, but it's coming. We got about 10-11" total over night and the snow doesn't appear to be falling at this point. Though it's hard to tell cuz we get those occasional gusts that rattle it off the trees. I'm really thankful that this is a 'dry' snow for hubby's sake and that there wasn't any ice under it. oooops! Spoke too soon. HERE comes that wind, and it's really howling! WHITE OUT! :0D
Marcia B...sorry to hear that you've been 'under the weather' for the past couple of days. I hope you'll take a tip and even when you *think* you feel better don't over do. It seems to come back and steal whatever energy you manage to get. Have some juice and take a nap.
Jocie, how sweet of you to go after all those seeds! :-D
NO plans for today...think I might go internet shopping for some of those plants and seeds I still have on my wish list. (yes...there is MORE, even after all the winter sowing was done.) I need to order my herbs...I LOVE rosemary. That's one I'd grow even if I didn't use it in cooking. The fragrance that comes from the plants when you water them is, for me, downright intoxicating...but then I could get drunk on a single beer. LOL So it doesn't take much.
Has anyone here grown Ribbon grass http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1582/index.html in their gardens? I'm trying to locate any ornamental grasses I can find that work in zone 4 to fill in vacant spaces in my beds and borders. I like the variegation on this one. I also like the clumping form and the fact that it's not very tall. (My husband can't understand why I'd want to *grow* "grass" in my flower beds and that's one reason I *don't* want him weeding! :-D
Y'all have a good day...keep the coffee hot, I'll be back.
~julie~
eucher? can I play? no one here plays and I miss that game so much! I brought some shortbread last night. What do you mean, it's all gone! Goodness, time to bake again. lol
All our snow went your way, sarv. But this wind is awful! It's been blowing over 12 hrs. already. And the temp. dropped from a high around 30 yesterday to 0 today. ICK! But it's supposed to be blowing in a warm front - predicted to be 40 on Mon. Yippee!!
Wow, how many kumquats did you have to squeeeze for that juice? It's tasty, Thanks!
As a kid I ate kumquats skin and all, just spit out the seeds. With all the sprays used today, I wouldn't eat the skins. Squeezing kumquats makes me think of all the key limes I squeezed this summer for several pies... they are almost as tiny and took what felt like forever to squeeze. I'd do just 100 at a time.
Marcia, sorry you've been under the weather... it seems to be going around. I awakened this morning with the first tinges of a sore throat and tender ears. Gray, gray day here and they say ice is on the way. Glad I don't have to go anywhere. The eastern part of the country is really getting hammered.
Mornin' GOBs. MMMM pecan bread sounds yummy. Might try that today...Good thing I buy big bags of pecans at Sam's. I can be extravagant in baking. Here's a view out the deck doors, we've got a good 7 or 8 " so far and it's still coming down. Had to go scrape snow off the bird feeder, two little chickadees were perched on top of the railings on the snow waiting for breakfast. Tried to snap them too but they flew off when they saw me. Just looked at the little feeder again (it's one that sticks onto the window with suction cups) and it's full of snow again. Supposed to let up this morning some time, but then it'll be blowing around and drifting. One landing strip open at Mitchell, but they think that will be enough as they aren't expecting much flight traffic today. We'll see. DIL is hoping DS will be able get a ride home from the airport so she won't have to dig out her car to go fetch him. See y'all later.
Sarv...I missed you there...must have been posting at the same time. (It takes me quite a while to get my messages written first thing in the morning. hehehe)
Laura! A fellow euchre player???!!! SUPER! Have you ever played online? I used to play all the time. I liked to play 3-handed until other players got to know my style...I'm RUTHLESS :-D Poisitively love the game. DH is *not* a card player, sees no use in wasting time in that manner. tsk tsk tsk...too bad! LOL
G'morning Darius! I hope that cold doesn't catch you. Sounds like you're in for some dreadful weather. Just stay inside and play with us. :-)
M5-that pic sure looks a lot like my place...except as I look out my window the snowmobilers are whipping by on the river access road. They're sure enjoying the weather, I'm not even sure the trails are officially open yet. Good time for the DNR to be out and about.
~julie~
Rats! I cannot find my own cookbook. I know it came here from my aunt's house but Nicole and her mother helped pack up stuff and to make the boxes lighter, mixed books with clothes. I don't ave the stamina to lift all those boxes to go through them.
Never fear about the scones recipes, though. My friend Bud has a copy of the first "edition" of my cookbook and I'll get the recipes from him when he gets back home today.
What's euchre? I love cards but haven't had anyone to play with in a long time. Pinochle and social bridge are my favorites, or Canasta.
Oh, I know RUTHLESS! We had a 1.5 hr. bus ride to school everyday(each way) and played euchre constantly. My cousin and I were notorious for winning. We knew each other so well and were best buds so we were hard to beat. We never cheated either. One of my brothers was hard to beat too. Another wasn't and to this day will not play euchre with me. Anything else, but no euchre. Isn't that funny?
Darius, there's no way to describe Euchre other than it's played mostly by Iowegians and Cheddarheads! LOL I've played my share of Canasta and Pinochle in my time and loved them both. Never took a stab at Bridge...the only thing I know about that is the Brach's Candy bag! YMMMMMMMMM (Hey...Eric has a bag he's hiding from me in the basement...anybody want some? LOL)
Laura, I taught myself how to play Euchre with a computer game. Then I went online and played by the hour. I stopped doing that when one of my really good partners decided he was 'swinger' and wanted me to fly out east for a 'quicky' (YUUUUUCK!) That doused my enthusiam in hurry. LMBO BTW...you don't *have* to cheat when you know your partner well. They always seem to understand your moves. (I think that's what I love about playing cards.)
~julie~
I'd love to find someone to play canasta with- use to play with my sister-in-law as a teenager and loved it. In fact, we use to play cards all the time. We'd even play at lunch time. Now we surf the web!
Darius - you drink more juice! I think I'm over whatever I had - have an appetite for the first time in 2 days - always a good sign. It's bright and sunny here but's suppose to get cold. We've got pizza on the way and movies to watch - so I think I may be a couch potatoe today. Did get the birds fed - so that's something.
If anyone has a stack of cards - deal em!
m.
my cards are all on the table and shuffled and ready to go. Not very good at euchre (can never remember which bower is which!!) How about set back or hearts??? Just love playing, but DH isn't much of a card player. I play solitaire often. Tried bridge once - and only once....
Got a batch of peanut cookies in the oven and just popped 3 diet cokes in the frig (I know Darius, I should n't drink them, but only for today!!)
Still blowing here, wind hasnt appeared yet. Supposed to go to a birthday party tonight, but I think we may pass - too cold and snowy to get on the road!! lazy me...
oops, timer is going off = gotta go get the pan of cookies- come on over - they're ready!!
CANASTA? Deal me in....I don't like to play Euchre....any game that Jacks are high should be outlawed....LOL The snow birds in Fla THRIVE on Euchre and shuffle board...LOL
My back pain has improved a lot today...but I think a wee nap is in order about now...see ya'll later...save me some sweets! Jo
One pass with the snowblower out to the road...looks like about 12" so far. DS still in DC....but Northwest said they would be taking off soon. Uh huh. Are those peanut cookies done yet? I'll have one with my diet Coke....I'm decaffed to the brim, time to change beverages. Mmmmmmm nothing I like better than warm cookies, unless it's COLD cookies!!! LOL
Okay Sarv and Kooger, here's one of the scones recipes. (Turns out the cookbook I gave Bud doesn't have the recipe that's my favorite. Drats.)
This one is baked in a round and is soft and spongy, unlike most scones...
Orange Scones
2 cups all purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3 Tbs chilled butter, cut into nits
1 pkg. (8 oz) lemon lowfat yogurt
2 tsp. zested orange peel
1 cup orange juice
veg. spray
1 Tbs. sugar
Mix first 5 ingredients together and then cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
Add the lemon yogurt, OJ and zest. Mix only until just moistened. Spray a cookie sheet with veg. spray and form a 9 inch round, flouring hands if necessary. Make shallow cuts in the round, as if cutting a pie, and sprinkle with 1 Tbs. sugar.
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 400ºF for 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Hi all, Ummmm cookies, thank you! Colds are on the move this season, so far this year I haven't had one catch me. I'm a pretty healthy person and some years never get a cold at all. Gotta sit down for a bit here and drink my tea with these yummy cookies. Maybe I'll make some later, I have lots of cookie ingredients that I stocked up on before Christmas when a lot of that stuff was on sale.
This morning my hubby and I fed cattle and sheep for our neighbor. It takes a couple of hours even though the first load was already on the feed truck. Hubby had to figure out the loader again, it has been a while since he operated it and had to do a lot of trial and error before he got the second load on the truck. He drives and I feed. I got a fair amount of exercise this morning keeping my balance on the slick steel flatbed while it moved slowly through the field, bumpity bump over frozen mole hills and cowpies under the snow, while snipping wires and feeding chunks of bales off the side of the truck. We try to be available to help our neighbors and they help us when we need it, that's the way life should work and one of the reasons we love living way out here. We have great neighbors.
When I was a kid my grandmother and I played a lot of Canasta. Later I played rummy with my kids but it has been years since I played any cards. I think Cribbage was the last thing I played and I don't remember much about it now. However, if you are patient, I could relearn I think.
See you later, the sun is out after a foggy morning and I am going out to soak up some greenhouse atmosphere and get my hands dirty! Join me if you can, it is lots of fun!
Julie, we are almost at the point of needing "Coffee and... #4"
Mary, I'd join you in the GH but you'd work circles around these old bones and then I'd feel bad, LOL.
I've managed to feel worse as the day has progressed, even with lots of Vit C, B's and my inhalers. I'm sure I have a fever, rats. Don't anyone hug me! Must be time for hot water and lemon... sure wish I had some of those Thera-Flu packets left... Not sure if they really work but I always feel better...
darius - thanks for the scone receipe - will try it as soon as I can get some lemon yogurt! Sounds yummy. Now about that cold stuff you'r fighting with - add some whiskey to your tea - that's what I grew up with!! Works every time!!
I just downed 7 of those peanut cookies - man they are addicting!!
CRIBBAGE - did someone say cribbage? I LOVE to play that!! let's see ' fifteen -two, fifteen four and a pair is 6 --remember that???
Still waiting for the wind to pick up - they keep saying it is coming...but when??? We have a birthday party to go to tonight and I would rather just stay home (come on wind!!!!!) Police are still saying to 'stay off the roads' - guess I better obey them..
Sarv, I do remember that but wonder if I was looking at a handfull of cards if it would make any sense. I also remember moving a peg in a board with lots of holes to keep score. The board was a little toilet seat complete with a hinged lid, and it said Trainer on it. Obviously I didn't get trained very well or I would remember something.
I just divided my Bromeliad called Neoregelia carolinae tricolor, and now have 8 planted pups plus a tired looking mother plant. That was all growing in a 6 inch pot that the mother plant grew in when I bought the plant a year ago. Lots of trading material there but I can't send any plants through the mail until about April. Who knows what I might get? Ah, yes, this is gonna be fun! If you want to look at the plant go over to the Identification Forum and look for a thread that I updated today called "Label says Dracena", well, it sure wasn't Dracena, and as somebody who answered said, it is way cooler!
Ok, gotta go, time to make some cookies, er, uh, for my hubby of course. But I'll share.
hehe- these are from an old tree that never gets sprayed. I put them in a bowl and squish them with a tater masher, LOL- then I strain. It's faster LOL!
I LOVE this place! You guys are GREAT friends!
Thanks for the recipe for the scones, Darius. That's one I *have* to try! Years ago I made an "Orange Kiss Me" cake with fresh citrus and juice concentrate. That thing should have been illegal it was SO good! (Ymmmm, my mouth is watering...uncontrollably. I think they call that 'drool' LOL)
~Oh...I have an extra Thera flu...here ya go.Hope your'e feeling better after a good night's sleep.
Just LOOK at all the card players here. It's too bad we can't find a site where we could play cards together...now *that* would be a great way to pass an evening. I'll try anything (well...almost!) once. IF I'm not any good at it, I'll give up. :-D (Never tried cribbage looks mathematical. hehehe) I guess that means I can't play anything with more than a single die. LOL)
Mary...a momma and *8* "pups"...there's something I've never heard before. Sounds like you had a good day in the GH. (GOOD for you! :-p )
OK...here's the link to 'Coffee and...part 4'
