Coffee and...Part 3 :-)

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Glad you are enjoying the bread, it's a nice crusty rustic loaf so we can cut it in wedges and butter two sides!!! Will make a pot of cream of potato soup for dinner, with chunks of hot italian sausage and a few spinach leaves thrown in to give it a little kick. ( Hand me the Tums. ) Good meal for a cold night. They keep telling us big snow on the way, right, Julie? but we just keep getting little dustings. Yesterday much of it thawed, and I went out to the mail box and almost did a prat fall, so I had to throw out some of that ice melt to get some traction. Don't need DH sliding into the garage door with the truck. Better get busy, house looks a bit bedraggled....or maybe take a nap LOL

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey M5...how about sharing that bread recipe? Sounds like one I'd like to have in my collection...and while you're at it, tell me how to get that nice crispy crust! Yes...I've heard about the "Big" storm supposedly coming at us. We'll see, won't we? LOL

Now to the *important* stuff...have any of you seen my SEEDS??? hehehe I just hate being old! I know I got the package (can't even remember WHO I ordered them from!) and I know I had them in my hot little hands...but I think that two weeks ago. I didn't put them with my wintersowing packets because I wanted to start them right away. Oh...they're seeds for the Polka-Dot plants for my shade garden here on the north side of my house. I could only find the seeds at one place on the Web, and now I've lost them!!! Arghhhhhh (I even cleaned off my computer desk (AGAIN!) looking for them. I'll probably find them sometime next fall...*after* they're no longer viable. hehehe Serves me right...I need to be better organized. HA! :-D

~julie~

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Julie, your memory ran off with mine. We can hope they're on only a short day trip and will return sometime soon. ;-)
I've got seeds I collected and the little slip of paper is gone, now what were they? duh... know they're wildflowers, mayhap the local asters. I DO know I collected some of those... somewhere...

M5, That's the best way I ever heard for slicing hot bread, wedges with butter both sides. Yummm. Goes good with my coffee. We had lamb and span [somethingorother]made with phyllo sheets and spinach and feta. Yummm again, my DIL is a true afficianado... does catering with a friend and co-hort.

I've just been out in my yard in my sockie feet. Yep I know, my Mommy will be mad at me. heehee I took out the garbage and then [ooops] wandered around looking at the cleaning up I need to start.

I like to cut off all the dead stuff and leave it in place until spring... It lets the new plants get started in safety. The Centranthus ruber looks like it thinks spring will be here any day now... So I dragged some mulch over it to slow it down.

Darius, loved the GOB salute. TNX will send to my sis back east. She could use a little cheering - it's being really winter on her farm north of Albany, NY.
Gotta run - kids are back from their errands. /;-)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Blooms... Bad, Bad, outside in your sockie feet. "You'll catch your death of cold." (how many times have we heard THAT one, LOL!)

But Yum, Spanikopita... I LOVE it! Sure wish I could make it... no Greek restaurants within 200 miles and the frozen stuff is barely passable if that. I do make good hummus though... but only if you like garlic, LOL. Except for eggplant, I believe I could live on Greek food... (or at least what I know of it). Hmmm, maybe I really should try making some spanikopita... I think there's some phyllo dough in the freezer, just have to get feta and spinach which means a 75 mile trip. Maybe tomorrow...

Be back later for tea... Do we have High Tea here?

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

Hello, not digging out from the snow yet. I wouldn't mind some-just not the 6-12 they predicted.
Okus, I am so sorry for your loss. I have been there and it is just so unfair.
Julie and Blooms-the seeds are not where you left them, the dang things get up and walk to where they can hide under just one layer of stuff.
M5-so sorry for your daughter, furkids are so special.
Darius, thanks for the tribute site, I do fit in there.
Fresh bread and cookies-sounds good. Had to do the fasting thing for blood work-funny how you can miss that last cuppa tea, when you can't have it.
Blooms- Shoes-you have to wear shoes-you never know what is out there that you will step in--sound familiar? I Still hear it in my memories.
Mary- I hope you shopped, shopped, shopped!!!
MarciaB-love those "Apple Blossom". My neighbor lady has a great hand with amaryliss, wish I did. Have to slide on down to see her and see what she has going.
ecob-shopping here is great-just a bit snowy now, but lots of sales.
Darius, I think that you could put that lady on the road, and she could travel around and collect garden photos.
RR-you said the N word--now I feel a nap coming on-the dogs are hauling the afgan out.........

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Marcia, you just reminded me of a funny story.

My mother finally had a grandchild 17 years ago, born to my half-sister then in the Navy in Hawaii. Mother spent the winters with me in Atlanta and the year her granddaughter was two, they came to my house for Christmas. Mother made a life-size muslin doll and a Santa suit and we made a scene out on the glass porch. After Christmas (and not wanting to just store the doll) we started dressing it (Leslie, who could be male or female) in different costumes for any holiday... and had great fun doing it.

Anyway, then a friend told me he had 2 friends who did that with another life-size doll... only the doll was stolen. For two years they got post cards from all over the world from the doll who was "travelling". Later the doll showed up back at home.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

O Darius what a funny story. Nice that she came home after her travels!! Back in the seventies when we were all a bit goofy, we made a life size dummy and called her Marjean. She had long flowing blonde hair (remember how popular wigs were back then?) and wore green and black checkered pants and a turtle neck sweater (we had a lot of trouble creating a neck...) and a long vest made of granny squares. We used to drag her out for company and put her on the sofa in the middle seat (where nobody ever sits anyway) and there was never a person who would sit on either side of her. We took lots of funny pictures of her "cavorting" with her friends, and we left messages from her all over the house. " Clean your room! Take out the trash! Where's your mother's scissors?"
Which brought some rude responses, but it was all in fun.

Julie, this bread recipe is a mile long for only having 4 ingredients. Maybe I can scan it, said the technologically challenged GOB. Have you made a lot of bread? If so, I can shorten it! Maybe I'll take a picture of it...wait right there.....Ok I mailed the pic to your email on DG....If you can't read it, let me know but I think it looks pretty good. (The work I go through to avoid doing work !!) Uhhh, also, even though it doesn't call for any shortning, I greased the bowl for rising....

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

M5, I left out the funniest part of that story. The second "costume" we did was a man in a tux for New Year's, complete with balloons painted on the windows and a champagne bottle/glasses. He was only up for about 2 days, so the neighborhood wasn't accustomed to Leslie yet..

(My sister and I had done a run to he thrift stores and came back with lots of wigs, mustaches, bathrobes... and other stuff.)

So after New Year's Eve, we dressed Leslie in a ratty old chenile bathrobe and put her hair up in those old pink 2 part curlers. Sat her up in a chair at the table with the Sunday comics attached to each hand, her back to the street and driveway.

Well, my next door neighbor came over at suppertime a couple of days later, splitting her sides with laughter. Seems a friend brought her a concrete birdbath but she wasn't home yet so the friend waited. The birdbath turned out to be quite heavy so the friend asked if they could go next door and "ask that lady on the porch reading the paper" if she would help!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

LOL I'm getting the feeling that it's a good thing that we weren't neighbors back in the day!! We would have had waaaaaaay too much fun!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hey, GOB's... here's some more bread fresh from the oven... get it quick while it's still hot!

I tried a round one so I could cut it in wedges like M5 but after I cut slits for vents it decided to be elongated.

Thumbnail by darius
Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Darius...I loved the "person" stories. The"traveling" doll was especially interesting...but the "Lady reading the paper" made me spit coffee! (Ohhhhhh, that bread would really go good with our pot roast for supper...thanks, I don't mind if I do. (julie sneaks in and takes HALF a loaf! hehehehe)

M5...you have mail...and I don't have the recipe. LOL

Carol...I'm sorry...I *did* read your post about your cousin's son. My heart went out to you and your family. I feel reall bad about not saying anything earlier (AND being my normal silly self as well). But I think I may have purposely subconsciously put it on the back burner. My son lost his first born (a little boy) at 6 weeks. I know the pain that comes with watching your own child lose one of his. It still breaks my heart, so I can certainly empathize with your cousin.

Marcia G. Yeah...6-12" and so far they haven't amended the forecast! That's unusual...LOOK OUT M5...it's coming YOUR way too! :-D

Oh...
I FOUND MY SEEDS!!! :-D (right where I *didn't* put them! hahahaha)
~julie~

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

okus, I too ignored saying anything about your loss. Sometimes there are no real words even to offer for comfort. Sorry.

Julie, my reading glases or keys are always "right where I didn't put them" like your seeds!, but mine sometimes happens to be the fridge...

I love to tell the "story" of the doll Leslie, and after 15 years, the part about "The lady reading the paper" still makes me laugh out loud. Almost as bad as getting the giggles... but now THAT hurts! And at my age, getting the giggles almost always implies momentary incontinence, LOL.

Glad you liked the bread... I'm gonna keep at it until I can produce a superb loaf. I have some speciality yeasts ordered from The Baker's Catalog that should be here in a few days.

(Zone 8b)

That bread looks scrumptious - I think it goes great with this raspberry jelly too. No seeds so they won't get stuck in my teeth.
Well my seeds are definitely moving I now have Hyacinth vine up as well as the cardinal. I've potted the cardinal on as it was pushing the lid of the seed tray!! Hope I didn't start this too early!!
thanks for the sympathy folks - been trying to write back to my cousin, its almost impossible to find the words.
Darius your stories are just too funny - I've had hiccups for ages - the coffee went the wrong way when I tried not to spray it everywhere!!
Hey M5 I've spent my life on the move too, 6 countries - 11 different schools, then 9 different homes since I married DH 40 years ago, I think it might be time to put down the odd root!! I might just be a Texan for the rest of my stay on this planet. Though I sure want to get about and see as many of the States as I can.
Talking about things walking.... can any one tell me how the furniture polish got in the fridge? Senior moments again I suspect - I must have dosed off and not seen it move. LOL

Carol

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

It needed to be chilled? LOL, Carol!

I've moved a LOT; I quit counting at 17 when I had been in 16 schools, through 42 states and lived in lots of them, and 2 foster homes. My record as an adult is almost as bad although I've lived several places from as long as 4-6 years. Four seems to be my average max and one year the overall average, LOL. No residence out of the country, though. My Dad wouldn't take the family to Guantanamo, Cuba in the 50's when he was stationed there.

Have to think of something scrumptious and not so fattening to bring tomorrow. Y'all have a nice evening!

Crossville, TN

OUCH!! I bent over to pick up a piece of paper....in the kitchen no less (I was just passing through...no thought of cooking!) now I have great pain in my left hip and back....went to Chripractor this morning...and will be going for several days I suppose. I have taken Aleve and the heating pack I made with flax seed and lavender in it...no relief!

If you have any thing for pain...pass it over with a nice hot cup of tea!! HMMM some of that bread and Rasberry Jelly sounds good.

Darius...tell us another story....that might make me forget my pain. Jo

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Darius...you are SO good at making me laugh! (momentarily incontenence...I can relate! LOL)
What kind of specialty yeast did you buy? I look at the Baker's Catalog...and hide it under my chair...I can't afford to buy food AND flowers! LOL

Carol...if it was lemon oil...it was only trying to find the veggie drawer...be reasonable. :-D

When I put something in the fridge...it's usually the ice cream. (OH....once or twice that I'll admit to. The rest of the time I just tell Eric he must have eaten the rest of it, so he'd better get some more. hehehe)

jo! Don't BEND over! I do that...and get the same PITA. (I feel for ya...it's no fun not being able to straighten up.)

~julie~

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Julie, I bought some Pain de Champagne starter and some French Sourdough starter which is the San Francisco yeast strain.

Sure wish I had more stories for y'all... I didn't even remember I had those, LOL.

Jo, take care... a limber body seizes up less... so soak in a hot tub full of rum.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hi again. We had a nice day down in Boise, Lowe's had the best plant section but oooo those prices were high in my opinion. I looked at some orchids for $21.95 and I think the cheapest plants they had were very small African violets for $2.99. I haven't priced any orchids so maybe that price was ok, whaddya think? They did have some nice plants but nothing I wanted very badly. So I left them all and we went over to Walmart, and their plant section was not inspiring at all, their people were busy doing something outside and weren't even in the department most of the time, stock was mostly in disarray with lots of stuff sitting on pallets, no tags but lots of dust so I guess they were leftovers from last summer and had been in the warehouse. I didn't buy anything there either. I really don't like to shop. Over at the Goodwill store I bought 2 containers to put plants in, they weren't really planters so they are unique. Just think of the money I saved! We did have a nice lunch and a nice drive down and back because the roads are mostly clear even though the scenery was mostly hidden by fog. I had taken a book along and read it most of the way without feeling guilty that I should have been doing anything else.

The mannequin stories are great. I recall one about a mannequin who was dressed up in suit and tie and a wig to ride in the passenger seat in a car whose owner wanted to be able to use the car pool lane. It worked until he passed a cop who noticed the fellow looked kind of pale and rigid. Oops!

Hope there's some bread left in the morning, I love homemade bread, haven't make any in a while. Goodnight.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Well, folks... this might be my last night on DG. I just verbally challenged a person here I consider to be a "big-mouth know-it-all" which is someting I rarely do. And frankly, I'm not a bit sorry.

BUT, if I'm still here in the mornng, I will bring fresh currrant scones...

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Ok, lets put this out for tomorrow morning, sorry the pie is missing a couple of slices but I made cream of potato soup for dinner with chunks of italian sausage in it, and by 8:30 we were ready for dessert.

Oh, MY... M5, that looks delish, pie and bread! Where's the soup or did y'all eat it all?? It'd make a nice lunch... What kinda pie? (I make lousy pies but a custard pie is coming up soon on my list.)

Darius....the hot tub sounds nice...my DD just installed one so that is "doable"....but....did you mean the hot tub was to be filled with rum....or was it ME who should be filled with rum? LOL

M5...that potato soup would hit my spot....I have a German friend who makes it with the sausage....yummy.

Well. the back is better but I still will go to the Chriapractor...I/'ll ask him about Darius' remedy.

Mary...I'll bet DH was proud of you and your Non-purchases....LOL Ya/ll take care. Jo

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Jo, I was pretty sure it meant you should be full of rum....giving me ideas about sinking down in the Jacuzzi this morning instead of dusting etc. Not a difficult choice given my attitude about housework. (I hope you all noticed I cleaned off my toaster before I took that picture....lol! )
I tried a similar soup at the Olive Garden, and thought, huh, I can do this...and it's easy and quick, too. I start with diced potatos, (don't ask for quantities, I eyeball them, and cook proportionately for the number of eaters) and mash some of them, add a generous amount of chicken stock, cooked, crumbled degreased italian sausage, if I have hot italian I use a portion of it for the sausage and mild for the rest, if I have broccoli or kale, I put some in for color and nutrition, at the very end I add whole or 2% milk, and thicken it with a little roux if it needs it. You could toss in almost any green vegetable for color...or carrots or whatever you like.

Julie, I sent you an email with the recipe for the Rustic Bread attached. I hope it comes through ok. How did you sneak such a big piece of that pie so quickly? And a whole round of bread missing, too! You are now officially in charge of scavenging provisions for this kaffe klatch. But, then, you always have been! We are still waiting for the big snow. DS should be flying back from DC tomorrow morning, hope it doesn't delay him. He lives near the airport so the last leg won't be a problem, just whether or not Mitchell can keep the landing strips clear. Five to ten inches.

Help yourselves to soup, it doesn't freeze well so it needs to be gone today. Gonna go play Domestic Goddess for a bit, see you later.........

Sarv, scones are very easy to make. I have lots of recipes but 2 recipes I use the most. One is for a spongy scone I make in one large round and cut it like a cake; the other is more of a chewy scone I roll and cut with a biscuit cutter. I'll find my recipes and send them to you, maybe tomorow, and make some scones myself. Sorry I didn't bring any today...

Jo, either way the rum should work, LOL! Glad your back is better and that you still plan to see the Chiro...

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Good morning!
Hey Darius...good to see you back. We sure did a number on M5's goodies, didn't we! :-D (I wasn't about to take ALL the blame all by myself, hehehhe)

Hi Sarv...funny you should ask about making the scones. Last night on FoodNetwork, Alton Brown (Good Eats) did an episode on biscuits and scones. I'll see if I can find the link to the recipes for you.

M5...(snicker, chortle, GRIN :-D) I absolutely could *not* pass up that bread and pie. I'm a *baaaaaaad* girl. And since there were already crumbs in the pie pan, I didn't think you'd notice. hehehe (The bread was little more difficult to steal...:-D) But I did put your (c) back on the pic when I finally posted the RIGHT one! LOL
~ Now...yes...I got the recipe, it came through just fine. The only problem I have is finding the manual for my convection oven to get the temp accurate. AND I'm going to be sure to get the stuff I need this morning when I pick up my meds at the Wallyworld. I haven't shown DH your bread pics yet...when I do he'll want to go to the store *immediately*! Oh...and thanks heaps and bunches for the potato soup recipe too. I think we have some Italian sausage in the freezer (along with some home grown broccoli. Oooooooo I love the sounds of THAT meal!

Darius...when you send those recipes to Sarv, how about sending a copy to me too? Pretty please.

M5...we're sitting here waiting on that snow too. I never know whether we're actually going to get what they forecast for us. It seems the Wisconsin River tends to throw the weather people in a tizzy. Most of the time the extreme weather goes north OR south of us.

Today, I think I'll move my baskets of containerized seeds out into a better location (in the veggie garden) so they get some moisture and better light.

SOOoooo...I'm off but I'll be back.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Hi all, coffee for me please. And the cream, I'm out at home. Sorry I've been MIA, haven't felt too chatty this week, getting better tho.

You've all been munching some of my favorites, potato soup, bread, pie, scones (you can send me the recipe too, darius)(please?).

Gosh, all this talk of bread, has me itching to make some. I have my tried and true Cinnamon Bread recipe ready to go. Yum, Yum! DH will be thrilled when he gets home. Hopefully he will have good roads. The Winter Storm Watch has not changed to a warning yet. It's predicted to start with freezing rain and then snow. Ick!!! I'd rather just take the snow. What sort of weather are you WI-ites getting?

Shucks, I was going to brag and post a picture from Wed. night's birthday party. Samantha is 5! But it seems someone has absconded with the camera and the pics weren't downloaded yet. grrr! which DS is the culprit?

Coffee's almost gone so I better get some work done. I'm cleaning out bookcases and shelves. Way too many craft magazines. Anybody interested in them? I'm going to post a give-away for postage in the Crafts forum, I think, as soon as this box is full. They fit just perfectly in the larger of the priority $7.70 boxes.

talk to you all later, Laura

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi Kooger, glad to see you back. Help yourself, we've been kind of not too chatty this week, I think the post holiday exhaustion is setting in. We're getting all kinds of weather watch warnings about a big snow, but it keeps missing us. and don't even think of sending me any craft mags, it will just lead to another unfinished project for me!! I have sewing that's been sitting in the guest/sewing room for weeks, and I don't dare think about starting something new. I do have a conscience, contrary to public opinion LOL....although the long delayed winter sowing is still undone and it doesn't seem to bother me a whole lot! but now I have to go retrieve laundry from the washer and throw it in the dryer...and start another load. Good thing the computer is nearby...uhhh, leave some of that cinnamon bread on the counter, but don't tell Julie, did you see what she did to the pie??? She said Darius helped, but I dunno, ........I haven't heard Darius doing any burping...!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Jo...you're SO good at making MY day! I'll have to start doing that right away. hehehe

Laura, that's a good idea, giving away the mags for postage. I wish I'd thought of that before. I still have lots of stuff in the basement that I've carried with me for years..."someday, I'll *need* this" (yeah, right! hehehehe) As for the weather, we're still waiting on it to happen. I've no idea, but I'm hoping for a good deep snow...but they can keep the ice! :-D (I don't relish the idea of falling on my fanny and ending up like Jo sitting in a whirlpool...although....the filled with RUM could certainly make me change my mind. LOL)

Hey Everyone...KOOGER is sharing CINNEMON bread! (Don't post a pic of it...cuz I might have to snitch a BIG chunk. LOL)

~julie~

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Actually that pie looked just like what happens when all 3 sons are home, and DH. Everytime you look at it, it's smaller but no one had a piece. They just trim about 1/2" off every trip into the kitchen and that doesn't qualify as a 'piece' in their book. Rascals! lol

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Laura...I know the trick your kids used. But I had one I used in return for my kids. Every time I made them a grilled cheese sandwich, I'd cut it half (sorta)...actually, I cut it "off center" on both sides of the middle, then *I* got to eat the piece in between while mine sandwiches were cooking. LOL (Moms have to do something on those kinds of meals.)

Well...the wind is picking up here in SW Wisconsin. Probably your part of IA is getting it too. I just went outside to take a couple of pictures of my baskets of seeds before Eric moves them (yep! DH is going to move them FOR me! :-D). I sure hope this snow that's coming at us is heavy enough to stay put once it hits ground. Otherwise, we're in for a lot of blowing and drifting.

~julie~

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. Hmmm, tea supply is getting low, I'll bring more next time I stop. That pie is GONE!! I missed it! That's what I get for being slow. Thanks, I'll have some of the cinnamon bread, ummmm yummmm! This makes up for missing the pie, but if somebody feels anbitious enough to make another one I'd be all for eating some of it.

We had sunshine and now we have thick fog all of a sudden. I hope that doesn't last all day. The greenhouse just got warm enough for the furnace to take a rest, all day hopefully. I'll be out there repotting things and I like it better when it is sunny.

My narcissis bulbs will finally get a home today in a cute little bucket that I think was meant to have dry stuff in it. The label on the bottom says it is a planter but not guarranteed to be waterproof, so I have it on the kitchen counter with water in it, yep, it has a small leak. I'll just have to remember to put a saucer under it when I bring it into the house when the flowers start to bloom. They're already sprouting in the bag but now I wish I had bought 2 bags, 10 bulbs would have been twice as nice as 5. The little bucket was one of yesterdays treasures, 59 cents I think and it looks brand new. Do any of you force narcissis or other bulbs?

I'm working on the laundry and the Health Rider again, it seems to be a good exercise system that doesn't last long enough to be boring. I had far too many calories yesterday and didn't move enough riding in the car for several hours. A little weight gain in the winter isn't something that concerns me too much but I try to keep myself in reasonable shape. I don't go on diets or strict exercise programs and so far eat less, eat healthier and move more does the job. And maybe I picked the right ancestors!

Jo, I like the delete housework system. Got a good chuckle out of reading that this morning. Oh, and I looked at the pictures of your sunporch, very nice and comfortable looking. Tell your son he did a good job.

Time to go do another session on the machine. See you later.

"beats Darius for saying she might not come back. Shameful!" hehe

Pie!!! Yummy.

Just spent more of "all my money" on ebay for some seeds. Feeling better about it, sort of, LOL.
At least they are supposed to smell yummy. Things are wierd around here- (our home) everyone is in a bad mood and snappy.

Not me though, cause I'm an angel, buhahhaha.
K, that was a flat out LIE. LOL

Guess what!! We have Lions Tail sprouting!! So exciting- now were waiting on the clematis. hehe
Ohh and I found two small oak trees that fit perfectly together to form a booooootiful Mame (small) Bonsai. It's so exciting- Imma sell that bugger for no less than 35.00! (if I sell him- he's so cute, hehe.) Imagine the seeds 35.00 could buy- I'd have enough to share with all y'all. Heheheeeeeeeee

Bad day, but a nice week! Gotta work this weekend and can't wait. More seed money!!! LOL

Have some freshly baked chocolate chip cookies guys!
They are yummy.

LOL- I love that "delete Housework" idea!

Ciao, Jocie.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Mary...every time you mention that GH I completely zone out for the rest of whatever you're saying. Somehow, I just float over to your G house and stand around sniffing the air. (I'm really missing the sunshine today! ;-))

Jocie...you're a riot! Now, if we were face to face here, I'd probably give ya a quick 'pinch' or a nose 'tweak' for being SO darn SPRING-like! :-D It's snowing like there's no tomorrow here right now. But I'll have a couple of those cookies with my afternoon coffee, thanks. (And *I* will help you with Darius too! :-| )

Darius...you darn well *better* get your behinder *back* in here! I need MORE people to talk to.

Reuben and Pastrami Sandwiches...salads and cole slaw for supper (dinner) here tonight. Ohhhhh, yummmmmmmy.

Nope didn't get my bread made M5. But I did get it copied into my AZZcardfile. According to my calculations, which aren't known to be extremely accurate at times (MOST of the time!) it takes roughly 4 hours to work through the rising times and finish the baking, right?

Y'all misunderstood Darius. Long story short, she got miffed and then miffed someone who had it coming, and fretted over what outcome might be. Not sure but I think outcome was thread's poofed.None of it bears repeating so onward I go.

Lovely 50* day here, daffies up 4inches muscari up 5 inches in some places. more cutting of dead things and then get ready for supper out at DD's. Lasagna. Ymmm

Sarv, scones are basically as easy as biscuits. Had a recipe I used to make in a cast iron pan over an open fire... well over the coals actually.

Roadrunner, that's strange, could it be catching? My right hip connection in my back went slippity while I was putting on my socks. Of course my less limber children think I shouldn't sit cross-legged all the time. 'Been this way all my life... no sign a changin.'

Once I opened my freezer to find the dishcloth I'd mislaid the day before while doing dishes. I never figured out what became of 'whatever' I'd meant to go in the freezer. LOL

oops Senior moment meant to add: Jo: after deleting housework, finish everything you've started: The Kahlua, the pain pills, the chocolate cake, the wine you opened for dinner last night, -- you get the idea. Finishing things you started is a good thing.
LOL ~Blooms ~/;-)

Okay, GOB's (and understudies)...I'm still here... did not get booted off. But that thread got trashed after a few more folks had posted but I didn't get to read them before it was gone. Dave did the right thing... contention has no place in this garden.

I went out today! It was in the 60's, so wonderful since it's been the cold pits this week and snow projected for tomorrow night. I found King Arthur flours (stone-ground WW and unbleached white) on sale for $1.49/5pounds, so I bought 20 pounds of each. I'm determined to bake EXCELLENT breads and I'll probably use up all 40 pounds in trying. Good thing the birds will eat bread crusts, LOL.

No other adventures in dining today but I will forage thru a few boxes tomorrow for my personal cookbook for the scone recipes. It will be on one of the messy pages.

Kooger, share that cinnamon bread recipe?

Something on another thread reminded me of a small but funny incident years ago. I worked for a very small R&D company and we had one engineer who came in and worked nights. One morning we discovered a soda-sized can in Army OD Green tied to the water dispenser. The can read, "Dehydrated Water. To use, add water."
