the weather here is so wacky that fleas are in over abundance right now.

i spray the house and have plenty of flea colars but i am looking for

a natural flea repleelant in plant form.

someone told me Cedar is on and does anyone know of compact cedar bushes?? anything to help keep them out my house is appricated. hubby is going to seven dust under the house this coming weekend.

I know that Avon original skin so soft will help keep them off of pets.

I used to use red cedar oil on my son when he was small. I never saw a kid that so attractive to fleas. Perhaps you could mix it with oil soap and spray it around. Is there a furniture manufacturing plant anywhere near you that you could get cedar shavings or sawdust from. Getting them from the pet store would be pricy but spreading it around thinly might help.

I used red cedar mulch on my garden beds, which was about half my yard. We seldom had a flea problem.

They make some pet beds out of cedar because fleas don't like it but that is just keeping them away from your animals for when they are on the bed. I use bombs. They are all pretty effective and you have to do them so many days after the first one because the eggs hatch.

Cedar, as far as I know, does not come in bushes. Cedars are trees. Big trees. Wish I could send you some. I have 40 acres of cedar trees. If pictures of cedars would work I would send you a bunch. Don't know what to tell you. If I knew what to tell you to do with the cedar branches I would send you some of those. Maaybe you could grind them up and sprinkle them somewhere. LOL

Wish I could help.

I read somewhere fleas don't like tansy or crepe myrtle and one was to plant them around the base of the house

What if you got some cedar mulch and made pillows (small) and filled the pillows with cedar and laid them around the house? I am talking about pillows about 7" x 12"? Maybe some decorative covers?

Other than that I would use a bomb.

I learned quite some years ago to put walnut leaves in your house for fleas. Yep, sounds weird, eh?

The older woman that got me into goats and rabbits and such when I was first starting out with them in the early '80s was quite a character. Once, while sitting in her kitchen sipping coffee I glanced into the other room and saw baskets of walnut leaves. Turns out she had just returned from her DD's house where she had collected them. She told me she will put a handful or so under her couch, some chairs, etc to keep the fleas out. Said she'd been doing it for years and now many of her friends also did it.

She wasn't the least bit concerned if people thought she didn't sweep under her furniture! I've never tried it but have recommended it to others and they said it seemed to work for them!

The only other repellent I know of offhand is pennyroyal. I used to grow it around our dog pen and would also make a flea collar with it. (Roll some up in a bandana and tie it around your dog's neck.) I suppose you could also plant it around your house, deck, where ever you tend to hang out.

Marie,

I know this suggestion is not a plant or leaf or mulch, but.....

My dog "Baby" has been on Sentinel for the past 12 years and I put "Snowy" on it when we got her 3 years ago. This med is a pill given once a month and it sterilizes the fleas when they bite the dog. We only have a problem when a new pet moves in adjoining our fenced yard. It takes about a month for the new fleas to be affected.

Just a thought.

As for treating the house, Boraxo (if they still make that) sprinkled in the carpet will take care of the onslaught.
