I got a sample from a company that I found on-line when checking for mulch. Various colors, but the cost was high and I was concerned about the smell and the heat retention in the sun. I wanted it for the dogs to run on around the garden, since the pine bark from KMart is not available anymore and the mulch here has so many sharp chunks for the speed demons.
Check google for mulch and there are a couple there. I will also see if I can find it in the mess that is my everything room
I remember the cost being high, but if you can transport your own-was more reasonable-

Tropic
I had a bit of a look on the net ,couldn't find much .Found one promising site but then lost it. I think it was rubber technologies or something . I couldn't get it back --not very good with the net yet
I've seen photos of it in T/Plant's garden--the new one his son made----browny/orange stuff

The Lowes here usually carries it, but I have not looked recently to see if they have it right now. If I remember correctly they had it in two different colors.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

There's a man nearby who manufactures it. I was planning to call him up and investigate if it would be something that I would use around the house. I'm not much on putting the natural stuff right next to my foundation...besides, the natural stuff is all but gone by the end of the season here.

I'll post back when I talk to him. He's within an hour of me, so it's feasible for me to go and get my own, cutting out delivery charges....besides, my BIL has a dump truck.

Thanks gang,
I was wanting to put it around my fountain, wind blows here so much,at the base of fountain,is always wet,and cypress mulch is slick, besides it break downs so fast, having to replace it several times during the summer.
I have a round fountain where the water falls over the edge, but before it hits collection pool at the base, wind blows it over that edge of the collection pool,as far as 3ft away from the fountain itself.
Has anybody seem anything like a netting of some sort where the water can follow down,or hang on,until it reaches to the collection pool, instead of being wind blown away?
I tried planting big eared plants to block the wind, which works to some extent, but blocks the view of the fountain.

I recall seeing something like you are mentioning that the highway dept uses to keep the new seed/sod in place on the side of the new overpasses.
The info I have from the mulch company I got a sample from has the site at www.waupacasand.com distributed by company in Neenah WI.
The cost -bulk is $108/per yard for black/white, 136 for black and 212 for colored. shipping is extra. The coverage info they gave was that I yard would cover 162 sq ft at depth of 2". I figured out what I wanted covered (note: I am not a landscaper and must have made some major incorrect calculations, but the cost of the stuff came to $11, 872 with additional 550. for shipping ( I live south of there) . The dogs will be running on mud or weeds!! The mulch does smell Rubber.-like you were hanging out in a new tire factory.
What about getting some of that coconut fiber matting? I think that Gardeners Supply carries some-will look futher.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Well lets see ,a 160 sq ft,would be a rectangle,16ft x 10ft,thats a fairly nice size for a $108.00,of coverage,that would last several years.
I would prefer the colored mulch.
Rylaff says Lowes carries in North Florida, haven't seen it here at our lowes,I checked on line, but didn't find it on lowes web site.
Coconut fibre would be nice but too expensive.
Thanks will keep searching, even for alternate kinds of mulch as well.

Tallahassee, FL(Zone 8b)

My Home Depot carries it. They call it "The rubber stuff."

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Thanks,I'll call ours here.

Lawrence, MI(Zone 5b)

I'm not sure if this is what your talking about but Menard's carries rubber mats that look like mulch and are porous for around trees. I don't know if Menard's is local to Michigan or not, though.

Thanks kathy,
No I'm looking for the cypress mulch looking, but only in the rubber form.
Dogzilla,I looked on line at HD,they don't have any listed, but will check here locally, when weather permits.

Tallahassee, FL(Zone 8b)

I didn't even look online; I happened to be at HD last weekend and noticed it... right next to the river gravel I was buying.

I hate buying rocks. It seems so stupid. Except there's no rocks where I live, only sand. So I have to buy rocks. I also have to buy Michigan peat. I moved 2500 miles to Florida from Ohio where I have to buy soil that comes from darn near the place I left. Next time my dad visits, I'm going to ask him to fill his truck with dirt from the yard and haul it down here.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

I hear you, no rocks here either,or sand!!!
I buy bags of humus every year as well, adding to the compost and top soil.

Tallahassee, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh, and make that 1200 miles from Ohio... (Slaps forehead)

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Round trip!!!!!
