I literally have only 2 feet of space on the south side of my house...most people would think of it as wasted space, but here's how I dealt with what I was given. Only a gardener could convert a 2 feet strip of grass into something so much more attractive. I was hoping the idea would rub off on the neighbours but instead they asphalted their similar narrow strip! AAHHHHH!
When space is limited.....
Nice Todd! Yep, only a true gardener would do that. :) But it's so much prettier than asphalt!
Jamie
Very pretty, Todd! How much sun does this area receive?
Terrie are you following me?! :) Ha!
Lovely use of space, Todd!
LOL Jamie I thought of that when I saw your post! Let's see where you end up next. hee hee
This area receives a fair amount of sun, from about 9:00 am till about 2:00 pm. Despite all the sun, the columbines do well. There are some Geraniums, Kniphofia and Campanulas to carry on the display after the columbines fade.
They are very beautiful. How hot do your summers get?
How clever! I love it.
Our average summer temperature is about 70-75 F. It very rarely hits 90 F.
No wonder your columbine do so well! Mine does well in the spring but then we starting hitting 90 around the first of June (sometimes earlier) so they don't last long for me. :-(
Todd it looks great! Some people just don't like plants so they will go the easier way. How do you grow your columbine? Do you just throw the seeds down and hope they come up.
:) Donna
Many of these columbines are over 10 years old! I do allow some seeds to fall and I thin them accordingly, so there is always a display, but in Newfoundland, columbines are fairly long-lived...must be the cool, wet conditions.
