NO light at all?

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Are there any plants that can grow in the dark, like say a basement? Just wondering.....

Mushrooms!

I have something loose in my yard that I call creeping crud vine. I think it could grow on the surface of the moon! Philodendrons and snake plant (forgot the botanical name) survive in dark offices, so they might not die in a basement, but I bet they would act really dormant and not grow at all. Fluorescent lighting is pretty cheap at hardware stores these days. You might try that.

Actually Silk plants grow really well in the basement. If the lighting isn't too good you won't even see the dust. Or for a real gardening frenzy, you could dust them. Sorry you're confined to the basement! I can't grow anything without an automatic timer on them so my house has been delegated to silk plants too. They actually have things called "grow lights" and if you were in for a little investment, you could grow quite a few things. But you'd still have to dust them :->

How about witloof chicory? You'd have to get the roots from somewhere,

Witloof chicory? They'll grow in utter darkness?

Gormands do it so that they will be blanched and sweet, or at least not bitter.

I would think the cast iron plant would come close.
