Magpye,
Our party isn't 'till Jan. 2nd. So can't help you out for New Years day, sorry.
I might as well vent, too.
There are five of us kids. All married, all living within 200 miles. Most of 2nd generation is also in this same area. We take turns hosting a party. Supposed to be Sunday between Christmas & New Years. Well that don't work very well this year, so we went with Jan. 2. My (only) sisters, daughter is expecting her first child on Jan. 14th. So my sister decides it's more important for her & her hubby to go to Jamaica before the baby comes. So they must leave on the 1st. When she hosts the party, she expects all to come to her house. Maybe not!
When my daughter got married a few years ago they couldn't come because they had been to Mexico & were to tired to travel that soon! We didn't bother going to her daughters wedding either. We came up very busy!
Hey, I like this venting.

We had our immediate family Christmas tonight. All were there for agood time & to much food!

No venting here to be heard. We celebrate Christmas day quietly with just the three of us and with a large meal so I don't have to cook for the rest of the week (almost) other than add to what we call "Turkey chuck". To make that you open your fridge and just chuck in anything that looks like it might go with turkey, add a little broth and stir.

Today we had our best Christmas present as our son's best friend and his wife and their two baby sons showed up for a visit. We had not seen any of them for two years so had never met the youngest who is 11 and a half months now (walking since 9 months) and the older one had been just two months old when we last saw him. We had a great visit with them and the baby fell asleep in my arms after going to see all the farm critters we have. It was a wonderful day and we will see them briefly tomorrow and then do lunch with them on Monday before they leave on Tuesday. On Monday this young man will be out scouting for a job here so they can move back to this area. We are thrilled about this as I am sure his parents are also.

My Aunt is getting a tree planted in our yard in her honor which she is thrilled about. The "extra kids" got a pan of fudge made in their new 9 x 13 cake pan with lid since she had recently said they didn't have enough baking pans. My DH and I usually get something quite nice for our only child our DS and he gets at least one thing for each of us. Other than that we donate to a scholorship fund or food bank.

It all works great for us and no venting. May the peace of the season be with all of you.
