ah-ha ..... exactly my point
you wrote "and the money is deducted from our bank immediately"
I believe the only diff in the one you have from MC is that you can use it to withdraw funds at different ATMs , from your personal bank account.
Is this is how MC makes money from your account by charges for ATM cash advances ?(Someone, somewhere , on down the food chain , is paying for the service)
Back to the old warning sent ou a few years ago , about once the money is gone "good luck"
Why not just use a CC, where they will help you dispute a claim and also cover any identity theft charges?
I quit using ATM machines when they raised user fees beyond what I will tolerate. Used to be a few cents per transaction.
Phooey on that stuff, I can get my money the old fashioned way as always.
Big companies love to blind us with B.S.!
Who needs that ?
Paypal, can you stop payment and what happens if you do?
We are terrible with credit and made the decision not to have any more credit cards. It does put us at the disadvantage if we do run into problems, for we will be put in the position of fighting to get our money back rather than just disputing charges before we pay for a charge. When we make large purchases, such as my laptop this Christmas, my MIL is kind to let us use her regular credit card and we write her a check for the total. For small purchases, we keep a second checking account at the bank and use a debit card tied to only that account; we keep the balance near zero and transfer funds into it only when we're making a purchase. That way, there is not money sitting there waiting to be taken should that number get out. There's probably more of a chance of a dishonest server stealing a credit card number at a restaurant or an order taker jotting it down during a telephone order.
true, true, scoot. But, if our MC debit card is stolen or lost, like DS's was, and fraudulent purchases are made on it, they reimburse you for all of it. He got everything back except a $50. charge as soon as the fake charges were reported, then received the last monies after the card company did an investigation and ruled that he did not charge the amounts. So, it has the same benefits as the credit cards they issue.
gw - the same reason we only use a debit card. DH can't seem to stop using a credit card.
Interesting thread. I have a VISA debit card issued through my credit union. When it was issued several years ago, there was no recourse if the card was stolen and your account cleaned out. Now, it is as safe as a credit card and all money is returned to your account. I'm not sure when the change was actually made but I have received generic information from my credit union stating such.
Hi, Everyone!
I read all the above posts (started by Badseed) about non-paying bidders on E-Bay. I have a problem also, and don't know just how to go about it.
On Nov. 6, 2004 a lady, or her son, in WI bid on a pair of Western Boots I had posted. She was the only bidder and so won the bid at the asking price of $24.99. We sent a few e-mails back and forth and she said she would send me a MO for the amount. I held off mailing the boots until I received the MO. (Glad I did!!) SO! I still have the merchandise!!! I NEVER have received the MO.
I have written her 2 subsequent e-mails reminding her that she owes me the $$. She replied to the first one saying it has rained a lot there and that with all the rain--there's no work, and without work--there's no money. She was going to see if her mother could lend her the money....
In the last e-mail (just before X-Mas) I was a bit more strict with her. I told her that E-Bay is not a Layaway plan--it is a business, and if she cannot afford to pay for an item, she should not bid on it! I gave her until Jan. 10 to send me payment, and then I will report her as a non-paying bidder and give her VERY negative feedback.
My question is this: Since I still have the boots, do I really have the right to go through all the "unpaid Item"stuff ??? Like--I can just re-list them, leave her negative feedback, and call it a day. Also, how do I find her again on "My E-Bay"? It is no longer listed.
What advice can you all give me?
Thanks, Gitagal
Gitagal,
If I were you, I would just re-list the boots. She is probably telling the truth about no work and $24.99 could mean a lot more to her and her family than it does to you right now. Besides, maybe you will get more money for them next time around.
I think it would depend on her feedback. If her feedback is all pretty good and this is an isolated incident, I'd be inclined to believe her and just relist the item also.
But, if there's a non paying bidder pattern showing up in her feedback, and it spanned a long period of time, rather than all just recently, I'd think about leaving neg. feedback. After all, if she would have come clean with you right away, then you would have understood and could have relisted the item before Christmas when people were Christmas shopping and still had money. Also, if she is one of those that keeps doing this repeatedly, she's going to put more people in the position you are in now.
There are a few reasons people file the NPB (non-paying bidder) report.
1. To alert ebay of her actions (only allowed 3 NPB and you are history.
2. To be reimbursed for the buyer's selling fees.
There is also a form where you can both agree to negate the transaction and your fees will be reimbursed also. I don't remember what that one is called. We had that happen with one purchase we made. The buyer called us and said the vehicle had been misrepresented to him and he did not want to continue the deal. He was selling it for his friend and had not seen the vehicle. He filed a form, another form was sent to us, we said we were in agreement with him and it was cancelled. His selling fee was returned. That may be an option for you, if she agrees. Tell her she will receive negative feedback if she doesn't agree and it shouldn't be a problem.

Hey, wait wait wait!!!
What size are the boots? Mens or ladies? LOL
Thanks everyone! One question remained unanswered. How do I get back to the original bidder's information? To be honest, I have not really tried that. Just lazy....but, from what I remember when all this was "fresh", she had all kinds of glowing, positive feedback.
I know times are tough for a lot of people. I will not hold any grudge against her--I am too kind-hearted for that! BUT! As someone said, I could have re-listed them.
MsJen------
They are brand new, Frye boots in a nice camel brown. They are a men's size 8 and rather narrow, so a lady might like to have them. I think a men's 8 = a woman's 9 (or so). They have nice, dark brown stitching all the way up the front and a standard, 2" stacked heel. The WHOLE boot is made of leather--inside, outside, sole, and lining. They are very nice! Frye is a quality boot, as I am sure you all know. I paid $25 for them in a thrift shop, and it would be nice to recoup that. Shipping would be $9.
Please forgive me if it is inappropriate to say all this here, but MsJen DID ask!!!! If I may, I will post a picture here.
If your auction ended November 6, does it still show up in your "sold" items area of My eBay? You can show up to 60 days back there. If you have her e-mail, you may be able to look up her eBay ID using the advance search:
http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/AdvSearch?&items=50&userid=gw@gardenwife.com
If you have the item number, put it in the search box and it will come up too.
They're visible for, what now, 90 days? It was nice in the "old days" being able to look at older transactions, but I can imagine the server space it would require to keep old stuff on there.
gitagal.
Well durn...wrong size..grrrrr
I'm always looking for a deal or a steal on boots ; )
Thanks for posting all of that
Jen
I think you're right on the 90 days, gw.
Thyanks all!!! You've been a great help!
