She has had company. I bet she will show up soon. I'll send her an email with the link to the thread on it. That will get her attention. LOL!
Grow Light Source ???
I found the 1000 watt on Google, $21.75. I thought it would be way more. I bet the light company sells them, ha!!!
8ft, is the one in the black hat a recently rooted brug?? I've never seen this but I only have a year's experience. I'll be interested to know why it's dressed like that...
I would only be repeating what I think I remember. I'm sure Renee would give you the down-low it. Look her up in the members and shoot her an email although she did say she sometimes goes days without getting on the computer. I think it's Renee_O or ReneeO.
I was oohing and awing and asking questions while she was answering others and telling me things I hadn't even asked, so forgive me for not wanting to make statements I'm not sure of. I believe she grows all of hers in-ground for the summer and this is one that was trained as a standard that she dug up and potted to overwinter. Bagging it and reducing the watering to the bare minimum kind of puts it in hibernation.
Brugie could probably set the record straight here.
8ft, I thought that was probably the reason, and did not know for sure. I have a short tree inside and I bet I should have put a hat on it, not doing well, or surely doesn't look like it to me. Thanks!!!
I have no idea. She never told me about this method, but I have to say that looking at the tall one, it looks like there is something going on right where the bag is tied in close to the stem. I hope she will look at that to make sure she doesn't have any rotting going on. I do keep saying I've got to get to the optometrist very soon. LOL! I emailed her with a link to this thread and asked her to come talk to you guys. She will probably check in tomorrow morning if not before.
Brugie, you are the best!!!!!!!! I told my daughter that you are the Carol Duval of the brug forum. My daughter LOVES Carol too!!!!
Thanks Sherry. I'm really not a crafty person though. Just give me my flowers and yard and I could maybe trade some chat with her, but there is nothing crafty inside the house. LOL!
Sherry, are you sending me vibes? I was about to type something about LIGHTING, and this thread goes on TOP for me to see. I do want to start seeds and now gathering what I need.
Hubby bought me this GE Plant & Aquarium fixture with a 28" fluorescent tube included for $14.99 at Home Depot.
Now waiting for seeds to arrive.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Brugie, my daughter and i are NOT crafty at all, but it does not keep us from loving Carol Duval - you are an entertaining cutie and you should have your own show too!!!
Hi All....Looks like you all got to see my basement jungle-hey? Where to start???
Hello Kin...Here's a Big Welcome to Dave's. From what I've seen...you won't have a need for a hid. Your brugs are georgeous!!!
Sherry...Ada has the right idea. The HID's are expensive to buy and run. You'd be better off if you can get by w/o one.... ::::about that MH bulb you found: I think (?) that type is for parking lots and fields etc. Esp. at that price. The cheapest 1000 w horticulture bulb I've found was $76.00. It is one that has both the blue(MH) and the red(HPS) light spectrums in one bulb...ie. a MH conversion bulb. This type is used for both foliage growth (blue) or flowering (red). To get more flowers at this time...I'd have to run the light for around 14-16 hours. Mine runs for 10 hours/day. Just enought to keep them growing slowly. Species did have a few flowers 3 weeks ago but would need longer light exposure for a full flush. In March...I will start w/ fertilizers @ double strength to speed things up but will not increase the light time. It is too expensive to run longer. My guess....$40/month at 10 hours/day and at this rate, the bulb needs to be replaced every other winter for a full spectrum. This site has a lot of info about halide & sodium light. You might want to check it out?? http://homeharvest.com/lightingmain.htm
The Black Bag...is on the shorter brug to catch the leaves from dormancy. I just applied it a week ago. It will come off soon. The tall one is a very Special brug to me. It was from our resident sweetie pie...Scooterbug! Just prior to the holidays...it began to die from the top branches. Last week...I moved it away from the light rays and put the bag on to catch whatever falls. My heart is sick about this one because, all the growth above the bag will probably have to be cut off. I hope Scoot will forgive me for almost killing this special brug????.
8ft... I truly enjoyed our little visit...too bad it couldn't have lasted longer. Oh well...Its a good thing (for me) you live pretty closeby. Your pics make my basement look much larger than it really is. Don't you think?
I wonder.....have the others from this forum seen pics of your Beautiful gardens yet?
Impressive gardens you have there, buddy. You put my meager gardens to shame (grin)
There are many more brug varieties waiting here for you....when you are ready....just LMK when.
Renee
Brugie...you old eagle-eye. Only you would have caught what was going on w/ that brug-LOL How the heck are you anyway? Haven't talked to you in the last hour-LOL
Hahahahaha, Renee_O, I should have known it - ZONE 5 A - there are lots more but right here we have Monika, Renee, Brugie and Scoot and a world more. Those of us, with exception of Kell, Kyle, Susie, Tracey, Susie, Root and others I do not know so well, seem to be out of the magical zone, but are moving along, better than nicely...I wish I knew what it takes, to live outside zone 5a and be successful.....wish I could buy some #5, for use in my part of Arky...
g
Renee!!
Glad you showed up and blessed us with your experience.
Don't forget I said I had a tank, airline tubing, airgang valve, airstones when you're ready. I was in the shelves in the garage yesterday digging out my spool of airline tubing as I added a couple of airstones to my 55gal tank yesterday. I believe there's a 35, 20 up there and I've got a 10gal in the basement doing nothing.
Yesterday I scrounged around in the garage for parts and knocked together another frame for fluorescent lighting to sit on a table in the guest/fish/plant room. Need to get a 2 more elbow joints and a plank and I'll add a second llight and shelf for seeds then just raise the lights by adjusting the chain.
