Hey, thanks, Jeanette! I posted Judy and really hope she might know. I've only gotten one reply from the ID forum and was told that it might be a Alocasia. I checked them out, but the ones listed look nothing like mine and much larger. Maybe mine is a miniature, ya think??
Grow Light Source ???
BTW, I haven't 'seen' Scooterbug, is she off on a cruise???
It's been a while since I have seen her on here and I wanted to tell her something. If you see anything of her tell her to hollar. Jeanette
She's been AWOL for a while, well, several days or so, I think...yep, I'll holler!!!!
She had a period of time that she was missing because her puter was in for upgrades. I'm pretty sure she is back online now, but with all of her animals and this snow and ice, she might be spending more time offline. LOL!
With all of the snow and ice, she may not have power.
Shirley, you guys got a lot of this awful weather too? It was 20 below here most of the weekend and I think it is warming up some. At least it is snowing which is a good sign except that it is snowing on top of the ice!!!
Jeanette
You had 20 below zero? We weren't that cold, but around 5 below. Cold enough for me.
Brrrr And I thought 14 was cold. LOL

we had snow Sunday, and ice in the evening it is now 5 above
Yup, about every half dozen years it does this. Last time it was -28 in '97. Its ok if you just don't have to go out in it. I had a dental appointment this morning in Spokane 80 miles away.
Canceled that baby. Jeanette
Last week, we were in the 70s, tonight is supposed to go to 14.
They'rte saying 12 for our area. Did I ever tell you "I Hate Winter? LOL
No fun, is it? The roto rooter man just left here and our drain is partially frozen. Enough that when I try to do laundry, it backs up because it can't take the water as fast as the washer pushes it. I thought it was just tree roots or something, but now I don't know what we are going to do. Ada, I hate winter also and I'm not laughing.
Ada I think God gives us winter so we appreciate summer more.
Shirley, I think I would rather have it frozen than tree roots. What did the guy say about fixing it? Just wait until the weather warms up? What happens when you flush the toilet?
How long is your weather forcasting the cold?
Jeanette
Tree roots can be taken care of. Frozen is another story. As long as it continues to run, even tho slow, we will be okay. I'll have to use the laundromat to do laundry, but I guess I can deal with that. The only other thing we can do if it freezes up anymore is to dig it up. He is going to come back with a generator and go to the far end of the property and run the snake through the drain. Maybe he can get it through enough and break up some of the ice. I'm going to run salt water through it tomorrow and see if that will help also. Our weather will start warming tomorrow. Just barely above freezing.
Yes tree roots can be taken care of but it is expensive. Is this the first time it has happened? How long have you lived there? What will you use rock salt? Won't that kill your trees?
Are you on sewers or septic? I have never been on sewers. Always septic.
Jeanette
Linda SC, I always watch your weather because we are both in zone 8a, and as long as I've been watching, our temps are about the same every day. It is supposed to be down to 15 degrees tonight - I went outside to get some stuff for the dogs and my supplies are frozen, I could not believe it, they are inside a cabinet close to the inside wall. Never, in all the years I've had animals, I've never had supplies freeze, brrrrrr. But, the brugs seem to be happy as clams, boy, I hope they don't freeze. The lights are all I have for the seedlings, but they are in the window, I wonder if I should put them on an inside wall tonight and, or leave the light on, hmmmm. These seedlings are like a litter of puppies. I have 7 loaf pan 'cottages' and I spend the day moving them from window to window to catch the best sun. I've never has a litter as small as 7, but I'm always helping the momma dogs by moving her babies around for her, which gives me more time to pet, love and bond with them. Ya think maybe I need to get out more??!!
Actually, the roto rooter machine takes care of them. Costs about $100. Much cheaper than digging up the lines. Salt will kill the roots in the drain, but not the trees. Right now, the trees aren't growing, so salt won't help with roots, only ice. Septic tank here.
Sherry I don't know where you have your brugs. Are they in a heated room? Even if they are I don't think I would put them in a window sill. At night.
Well Shirley I sure hope you get that taken care of. It's a lot warmer here . The house is easier to heat when it has snow on the roof too. But without the snow clouds it sure was cold.
Have you grown Daturas? I put some in rockwool at the same time I did the brugs and the brugs are up but not even a shoot on the Dats.
Jeanette
Shirley, I hope you get your drains thawed. I hate to have to go to the laundrymat
come on now, nobody ever washed by hand around here?
One time we were achored off of Toulon France and I was tired of 'grey' sheets and skivvies from the ship's laundry. So I went in the shower stall, washed all my tees, whitey-tighties, socks and sheets. Bagged 'em, rode the liberty boat in, walked through town (picked up some vino) and down a cliff onto a beach. There was a very nice family pic-nicking but were totally distracted and perplexed after I spread my whites out over the scrub brush at the foot of the cliff. Of course it could've been my bright white butt turning red on the beach while drinking warm champagne. Hey, it's Europe and clothes were optional.
Brugie, just turn everything inside out and get twice the wear out of it. Spring will come.
:)

LOL Well, I guess that's one way to do it.
I sure have Blaine. Grew up on a farm and have even used a washboard a time or two. Was sure happy we had the wringer washer and then the automatic. However, it was still cold in that backroom using that wringer washer. Once we got the automatic, we had to also get the heat out there. LOL!
I'll let you handle wearing the clothes on both sides. Don't think I could handle that. LOL!
Yeah Blaine, just because we've done a lot of that in our "youth" "younger days" does not mean we have to do it now and like it. In fact we can hate it.
45 years ago when my daughter was a baby I used a wringer washer on her diapers mainly because that got those diapers whiter. I hung them on the clothes line in freezing weather because the sun bleached them also and for a little while they smelled nice and fresh. Rocks and washboards and wringer washers are antiques. We have come beyond those things.
It is called "progress". LOL
Jeanette
I'm sorry I've slipped the subject, but...
I remember one time my dad stomped a proverbial mudhole in my, uh, personality, was for letting a cloth diaper get away from me. I was supposed to dunk and flush in the toilet but lost the tug of war. Probably wasn't 4 or 5 at the time.
When first married we lived in the Philippines and EVERYTHING was washed by hand, without a wringer or washboard. Levis and blankets are death. DW would probably sell me to the lowest bidder if I suggested handwashing today. Every now and then while puttering in the basement I'll holler out a 'Holy! The washers broke!' then run and hide.
Blaine, sounds like a good way to get shot (by DW). LOL
LOL! I'd almost pay to be able to watch this little scene. Ornery, aren't you?
Here's another example of basement lighting.
Yesterday I took ReneeO up on a cutting offer but drove up into Wisconsin since she's only about 45 min away. First time I've met another DG member, what a wonderful person. Needless to say I left with more than just a cutting in water. My yard should stink real good this year!!!
Anyway, dear Renee also let me take a couple of pics. I've thought about the MH light before but was concerned about excessive heat and the current draw needing a dedicated circuit breaker.
Renee's basement felt just as cool as mine. She didn't have to add a dedicated circuit for this 1000watt MH thats on a track slowly moving back and forth. It's basically soundless as well. The soft whirr of an oscillating fan is about it except for the cells multiplying in these obviously healthy brugs!!
Renee - if you're lurking - Thank you so much for the education and materials!!
Now, that's a setup!!!! Very nice. I don't have a place, at this time, where I could run a light like that, but, if I did, where do you find such light fixtures?? I've never seen a 1000 watt bulb and it surely sound like lots of light. Thanks so much for sending the photo!!

How many brug cuttings does she have there this year, Blaine. She said they were growing like crazy. I'd say they look really good and she should be way ahead of the game this year with her blooms. I'm glad you got to meet Steve and Renee. Now you can come to the Iowa Roundup and already know at least one person. LOL!
Sheesh, I don't know how many she's got. From the typical gardener spirit of giving or because she needed more room for seeds that are starting... she's now 5 cuttings short.
This is another rack just to right of the first picture. That tracked metal halide light doesn't even pass over this rack. They just get the ambient light from the side.
I know I will want to kick myself for asking this question, but what are the little plastic on some of the brugs??
Cheap replacement for the saucer. I believe those white trays have holes. Slipping the pots in plastic bags takes less space than having them in the little individual saucers.
Sherry, here's one you can look at. Be prepared for the light bill. LOL

Thanks, Ada!! I wish I had a place I could use something like that, but unless we start having winters that are not any worse than the ones we have had the last 10 years, or so, I don't think I'd ever need it here. As it is, my aunt said I didn't even need the shop light.
8ft, I'd say that is a smart, cheap way to keep them from dripping. I doubt i ever would have thought of it...
Sherry, I purchased one and don't use it. I use the shop lights.
Thanks, Ada!! I'm kinda scared of a 1000 watt bulb. I have one in a lamp, not that big, but talk about blowing bulbs, and I think mine cost 8 or 10 bucks, only found at one store - I can only imagine how much a 1000 watt bulb would cost...
To bad Renee won't chime in and give us her experience with this. She makes it look simple and painless. I've had the same reserves about those high output lights - heat, electricty, replacement. I don't know how long she's been running hers.
