Seed Snatchin' V... Show Us Your Stash!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

What a great pic Tamara! Oceangirl I am so sorry about your dog - that is my worst fear...

I am going to try some of those - my dogs are 5 and 6 now but willing - it would be fun. My mix 'talks' too growley noises when she's happy so that shouldn't be too hard!

I would love to come to TX by the way, it's on my list of 'to dos!'

Will be on the way to Charleston, SC soon for the funeral. There are usually SO many gorgeous plants there surely I can find SOMETHING. My 'snatchin' kits all ready to go to...

Nicole

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Hi all, I am checking in early. Need to get some sleep tonight. You know I am hooked on this forum now.

I worked on my stash today. I took a before picture of the big mess, so when I get it all orgainzed, I will take an after and post them here. Who else is organizing their seeds?

I have cuttings in water on the kitchen counter that i don't even know what they are. Once I get them ID'd and labeled, I have a new place for them. Then I will take a picture of those too. I am a minor snatcher compared to most of you pros LOL, but I've got the right attitude, so with the proper training, I will soon have many more cuttings to start hehehehe (evil grin)

oceangirl, very sorry about your dog, what a tragic loss. I can't understand people who do that :-( My sister's pup was poisoned while she was here Thanksgiving. They just barely saved her. Now with the big vet bill, it may be a while before she can visit again...

NC, when you come, plan to visit Fritch. We have a wonderful outdoor amphitheatre production in the summer called Lone Star Rising, Lake Meredith is on the rise, and their are two neat palces to stay. Here is one:

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Tamara, I'm it, I'm it, Kaiser has lot's of nice plants, teehee, 1st lesson, always carry your clippers in your purse, then always have baggies ready, and a pen that will write on the baggie, if it's a plant cutting, always bring a water bottle along, and a cup, when ya get a snip, put water in dah cup, put dah cup in the holder, VOILA!! TA DA.....Wherever YOU go, strip malls, big malls, Dr. office, shopping centers, etc etc, LOL LOL, Annie

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Annie, did you say 'snip malls'?

Oh my gosh... snip malls! ;)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

When trimming plants at the doctor's office, are they waiting-grooms?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Thanks greens, they make me smile every day too. BTW, I think you have been eating too much lettuce. Instead of having a supperific effect on you they are making you just PLAIN SILLY! I will not EVEN try to top that...

Yes, hanna1, snip away...

Good night ladies (and gents)

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

Thank you for your kind words Nicole and Tamara. It was a long time ago but I'll never forget it. I'm glad your sister's dog is okay now, Tamara. That doesn't happen much around here because it is so heavily populated you just can't let dogs free at all. I used to when I first moved here but now there's so much traffic and Animal control is out every day.
I miss being in the country where things are more relaxed.

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

LOL LOL LOL LOL, snip Mall, LOL, waiting rooms, LOL LOL,
Oceangirl, I too am sorry to hear about the awfull mishapp with your furry friends!!!! It's something you just normally don't think about, but if you look at the Pet Forum, You will see a lot of mention on the subject!!!
I'll tell ya all, You all make my day, no matter how I feel, even with this crud of an upper respitory infection for the last 2 weeks, You keep me laughing, and this is good!!!!!!! Anymore new snips out there?? TeeHee, Annie

My girlfriend and I went to a luncheon benefit just after Thanksgiving. We saw the gorgeous white poinsettias as centerpieces in the rather attractive pots with gold foil and she figured they would be giving them away as door prizes so she had me check under each plate while she checked under each chair. And, she wasn't even subtle about it as she crawled around on the floor. At least I tried to look inconspicuous as I picked up dinner plates and ran my hand underneath them to feel for a sticker. Sure enough, there was a sticker under one chair at each table. She MADE me sit at the table next to the table she would be sitting at so she could go home with a centerpiece from not one table but two. So, due to greed... I didn't get to sit next to my friend (and I was instructed to pretend that I didn't know her to avoid suspicion) but... are you sitting down for this... both my girlfriend and I just happened to be sitting in chairs that each won centerpieces. Shockingly coincidental I tell you. After we left, we stopped at a craft store to get florists foam so she could take cuttings of the plants and start them for friends as soon as she got home.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

nah, no way .. that's not bad ...

Her hearts in the right place, her eyes are well-trained, and plenty stamina with no holes barred!!

... THAT ... is ingenious ! ! ! Get that gal recruited - yesterday even, Equill !!! ... LOL ...

Luv'd that tale ..

- Magpye

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Equil, you are a pro.

It was a large banquet room and I was praying nobody would ask me what I was feeling up the bottoms of the plates for because try as I might, I couldn't come up with a plausible excuse and I am normally pretty quick with a retort. We were early but there were a few people starting to trickle in. I was very nervous and Shirley kept asking me if I had found anything yet and I felt like kicking her under the table or else reaching under there to stuff a napkin in her mouth to shut her up. I remember saying, "Shirrrrrrrley, shut up! If you keep it up people are going to think I'm not only feeling up plates but holding conversations with them as nobody can see you and I'm the lucky sap out in plain view". Her comment was to keep feeling for a sticker as she needed the poinsettia.

Magpy..."Her hearts in the right place, her eyes are well-trained, and plenty stamina with no holes barred!!" Beg to differ with you! My dear friend Shirley was safely out of view under the table and at least she could have said she lost a contact lens if somebody questioned her behavior. What did she have to lose? That women left me to the wolves and then she wouldn't even sit with me to eat because she got paranoid! It's funny now but looking back the whole situation is absolutely absurd. By they way, she won't lower herself to go dumpster diving with me because she's afraid of getting caught yet she gives me lists of things she wants. She wants a shopping cart like the one I have. She'd prefer her cart to be a nice stainless steel grocery store job rather than the plastic style of cart that I picked up. The nerve of some people! ;)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

HAHAHA! That's hilarous!!! Thanks!

I am still in Charleston but have only found a couple of Snatchin' possibilities.. I have my kit here - I need to take a pic of it for you all. I got it for Christmas. It's a housplant gardening bag. It has small shovels, clippers, etc etc in a minature gardening bag! My brother in law got it for me and I believe he got it at Kohls.

I am going to get some Pansy seeds on the way out and there are a couple of rooting possibilities in some arrangements at my Uncle's house. I do think it would be neat to have something growing to remind me of my Aunt. Talk to you later!

Nicole

Nicole, save time and take entire floral arrangements. Begin commenting that the house is smelling sort of thick like a funeral parlor and offer to remove some of the sources of the pungent odor that is permeating his entire home. This will enable you to focus on other sources not available to you back home.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Wellll, Equill .. I reckon the whole tale had to be told then ... hee

- Magpye

I called my girlfriend and I read her this thread and both she and I are darn near rolling on the floor remembering this. She wants everyone to know the poinsettias are rooting just fine and she would also like to know if any one of us can get her a shopping cart. She's willing to trade poinsettia starts for a shopping cart. She has many to trade. She refuses to go dumpster diving... too risky.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Reminiscing of such experiences .. accompanied with those wonderful giggles and chuckles .. are always good for the heart and soul and foundations .. of all good friendships!

Hee ... Equill ... tell yer gal-pal there ... that she may oughta opt to take a walk on the wild side ... and dig deep within and explore the inner strengths and depths ... of her capabilities .. (and her local dumpster)!!

Heck, one jes haint ' lived ' .. till ya've raised up along the inside wall of a dumpster .. with an old half dead lily stem draped over one shoulder, limp and slimy green onions sets hangin' out of a pocket or two .. and an old moldy black plastic pot settin' purtee on yer head !! .. But, you found a whole mess of goodies to boot !!! ... Ahh, life's lessons !!!

Sure makes ya appreciate that ol slightly grundgy shower stall that you 'put off' cleaning last week too !!
(and are dang'd sure glad you DID wait, till now !!)

- Magpye

Naaa, I get so filthy I strip in the garage and walk inside the house in underwear so no sense cleaning that shower stall prematurely as another month or so won't much matter. My husband calls me his little luv bunny and walks off laughing while plugging his nose. I guess I must smell.

My girlfriend Shirley's husband is a Lutheran Pastor. She doesn't take walks on the wild side. She merely goads everyone else into doing dirty deeds. She swears her husband would disown her if she ever got picked up for anything. My husband would leap at the opportunity to bail my happy rear out to be able to brag about having done so at my expense for years to come. He'd probably even bring a camera to capture the Kodak moment.

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Still here - just keeping a watchfull eye, will go your bail, but as my father once said "only once". The trick is to not get caught more than.

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

Wow Dyson, you father gave you a chance? Mine always told us kids that if we ever ended up in jail, he'd let us stay there for awhile to learn our lesson. LOL Thankfully, I never did.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Howdy, come on by and help me plant all these coleus seeds this "." big. Somehow this ship stopped at my dock and I was at the train station. I'm glad Tamara found us, she lives close to some kin of mine. I have several days of catching-up to do.
By the way this thread is getting rather HEAVY weeze, yooohooo, we need new.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

I second that sugar... on to snatch number 6...

I read some of the snatching events to a friend to day (esp the funerals, and poisetta centerpieces), and she thought it was sooo cool. So when fall comes around (or sooner), she and I will be out snatchin some seeds together LOL

Sugarweed, I saw a thread in propagation about how to hadle tiny seeds. Will post it here if I see it. Wish I could help, it is sure enough cold here, down to 14 tonight.

Tamara

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi all! Funny stuff agaiN!!

Yes, Tamara - post that if you find it!! I hate the little teeny ones..

I did end up gettting seeds off some big bush in my Uncle's front yard. I got a TON of them in case anyone wants them.. He said the plant (doesn't know what it is) has red leaves in the summer. We shall see - it reminded me of a butterfly bush or something. Can't tell what it is but I'm going to do a germ test and see if they are worthwhile...

Being in the deep South though it may not even live through winters here though - so not sure how far 'up' it could go.. We shall see - be fun to see what it turns out to be!

Tamara, Thanks, i'm doing damp finger, 2 seeds, jiffy pot rub into center gently, start over again.
I only have 71 pots so far, but $4 gets 72 more at Wallys. It's not like it's a career change, I can patiently plant 144., or 216. Thats my whole shelf worth. lol

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Wow Sugar!!! LOL, well today I replanted 45 pots of Cactus and Succulents, and about 30 to go!!!!! My DH put up a folding table for me, took me all day, if I could Sugar I'd be helping you instead, I'd rather pic seeds lol, I'm off to bed to rest my back and neck, LOL, Annie
