Does anybody have experience with them? I have an ad about the neuton cordless electric mower, it sounds wonderful, but is it?
Cordless electric lawn mowers?
Mary, I had a friend that has an electric mower. It has some pluses - quiet and non-polluting, and negatives - doesn't charge long enough for a really large yard and doesn't cut really well if you let your grass get really high.
Not familiar with the Neuton. Had a neighbor with Black and Decker. Major problem was that let his grass get too high and had to borrow my gasoline mower. They should be good for small well kept lawns and they are much quieter than gasoline powered mowers. Polution No. they just put it in some one else's back yard. Electrical power generation is a major polluter and gets less useful energy out of a unit of fossil fuel than a direct source. Battery disposal is a major problem also. They use nastier chemicals than a lead storage battery. On the other hand the mowers are minor source of rechargeables. so I would suggest you make your choice on quietness and whether it will handle your lawn satisfactorily. Another plus ; no cranking problems.
