If so, would you please forward any/all of the following information to me (either here or via member mail):
Name of columnist/editor (if you're lucky enough to have several regular/contributing columnist, send 'em all!)
Their email address if you can find one (they often put them at the bottom of their columns.)
Your newspaper's name and city/state
If your newspaper relies on a syndicated columnist, that's fine to send along; (I'll take care of any duplicates.)
Hint: if you don't know whether your paper has a gardening column, check your Sunday "Home" or "Living" section - that's usually where you'll find them. Some newspapers run mid-week gardening columns, too.
I've got some year-end DG press stuff that needs to hit as many garden writers' desks as possible and PDQ, so your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance ;o)
US DG members: does your newspaper have a gardening column?
Here ya go:
The Fresno Bee, Fresno, CA
Contributing editor: Nzong Xiong nzong@fresnobee.com
Contributing editor: Joan Obra jobra@fresnobee.com
Sioux Falls Argus Leader, Sioux Falls, SD
The gardening column only runs thru Oct. so I posted the link for letters to the editor:
http://www.argusleader.com/editorial.shtml
Hope this helps.
Hi Terry, our local publication is adding a gardening column. The feature will be added in either January or February. I will be the regular/contributing columnist. Our distribution is relatively small in that I believe it to be a run of about 2,500 however you have another member here who is a professional journalist who freelances and regularly contributes gardening related articles on a regular basis to her publication which I believe has a distribution of 5x that of ours. I will call her and let her know where this thread is.
I am having some e-mail problems however you may contact me by member mail.
Dallas Morning News - Dallas - http://www.dallasnews.com/texasliving/housegarden/
Two Columnists:

Howard Garrett - howard@dallasnews.com
Thanks, y'all - please (please please) keep 'em coming. I've tackled *some* of the major metro papers, but I know I don't have them all.
And if your local paper is a smaller circulation, I still need the info - sometimes the smaller papers are more receptive to press releases than the big 'uns.
Oops, didn't realize this was a Press Release. If you believe a writer of a column for a small local paper might be of assistance, by all means contact me in the member mail.

No new forum - just a press release/announcement that needs to be sent out. A BIG thank you to all that have contributed yours already. To everyone else - c'mon..please don't hesitate. I really do need all the garden writers (free-lance, extension service, regular columnist, syndicated, etc.) contacts I can get.
If your paper doesn't have a dedicated columnist, then the home (or living or lifestyle) section editor is usually the next best bet.

We have two local papers. I only have the information for one of them. The Home and Garden section is in Thursdays paper. I the past they have stopped garden articles for the winter and concentrate on Homes. To date, they are still publishing garden articles. I'll try to find the information for the other paper.

Terry - maybe this is also what you're looking for as I noticed you said in another post extension agents. I get the Kansas Statue Extension service horticulture newsletter.

Thanks again (and yes, keep 'em coming - who knew there were soooo many gardening columns in the U.S. alone?)
And langbr brings up a good point - if you are aware of gardening newsletters produced by your local extension service, that would be another excellent avenue.
Please keep the names coming - it's definitely helpful!
Just to keep you updated, I've sent out around 120 press releases to-date (around 30 to magazines, the rest to newspaper columnists/editors.) I suspect I'll send out nearly that many more by this time next week.
When I come up for air, I'll post a list of all the publications I've contacted, so you can keep your eyes peeled (pealed?) for "DG sightings" and we can start a thread for people to post to whenever they come across a mention of DG and/or PlantScout ;o)
OK. last one, lol.
Walter Reeves also puts out the "Gardening in Georgia" newsletter, connected to all extension services in GA. (He's our MAN, if you haven't noticed)
georgiagardener@yahoo.com
go get 'em Terry!
Although our paper doesn't have a real garden section, they do print garden related articles weekly. All letters go to editor@theparisnews.com
Here is the website...

I hope this helps
I found an on-line list of all Iowa newspapers. Do you want them all, Terry?
Terry -
