I have DirectTV..and there is a channel called DIYtv. Does anyone else have this channel? I watched an awesome makeover yesterday. It's a Gardening network channel. They took a small backyard with limited space..And made it over in 12 hours. It was awesome! They lined up one side with Blue Mophead Hydrangea. It was gorgeous...They used the Minature white Roses, Crepe Mrytle, Dwarf Magnolias..Budleja, and others. Dang! I was in heaven watching this show! It gave me some ideas about growing vines. What do you think about using a closeline? This lady had a closeline in her back yard..she didn't use it for growing anything..But it gave me an idea. I could make me an inexpensive Pergola huh?
Here's my little scetch I drew on my computer...he he he. Look like a clothesline?

Hmmm sounds like you could really do all kinds of things - even a vine 'wall.' Interesting..
I also have Direct TV - does the channel come with basic or do you pay for an extra package? I would love to check it out...

Well I have never been able to get the channel. But my daughter says during the Month of November..Everyone would get all the channels. They're hoping you'll order more channels. I have to keep this one! I'll order it when the trial is over..Go through your channels and see if it's being offered in your area.
Will do that!! Thanks!
I have a friend who did that with her clothes line. Covered it with passion vine and put a bench under it. It looks lovely.
My grapes are growing on a converted clothesline. The former owners apparently took a "cattle panel" and laid it over the clothesline supports and attached it somehow. They planted two grapevines, one on each end. If I had it to do over again (and one of these years I will, given the rustiness of the structure), I would have used a longer panel and created an arch instead of a flat horizontal structure. (I'm not tall by any measure, but even I can hardly stand up under a clothesline, and once the grapes cover it, it's an awkward height to pick from.
I'm excited! This will be my next project..How long does it take those grapes to form? My grape vive grew lots this year..But nooo grapes. Got it from Home Depot in the Spring.
Oh sure, all you zone 7s can watch those gardening shows and copy what they do, DH and I watch them and laugh as we eliminate all the nonhardy in zone 5 plants and see what would be left!! This also explains why we are getting Showtime on our Directtv, they didn't say anything about the free month so I thought we just got lucky. Our winters have even wiped out some of our hardier perennials the last two winters, since we didn't get much snow to keep them insulated from the cold temps. Even with a goodly heap of mulch, they had a tough time and some just didn't make it. Just a little zone envy here..........lol
Awwww...LOL I lived in Illinois for 5 years. I recently moved back home 2 years ago. My Grandfather said, "Kim why are you moving there..it's really cold?" I thought to myself..It's cold in PA and we get lots of snow. Boy did I think wrong! It was COLD there! LOL LOL. I guess I didn't realize that cold could bite and be frigid..he he he
I like this clothesline idea! Thanks for the image.
I have DIY also. I love it.Only there not
enough about gardening and to much
about building things though.LOL.Jody
