The Perfect Shed

If this is not the right forum please direct me.

We are going to build a shed next year. Can you give me some ideas how to set the insides up? It will be used as storage and also for potting. Pictures would be a great help.

Linda,
I am not sure if this is the right forum, I am new on DG. I'm also interested in potting sheds. I have a small greenhouse and right now I use up too much room for potting plants. Hope we get some answers.

You picked the right place to post this in my opinion....it's where I'd start and I've been here for almost 4 years now.(almost since the beginning)

Welcome to DG both of you.

As for the potting shed, one suggestion I've got, is make the place that you work with your soil mix where it will hold one of those big plastic containers with a lid.

Make a bench with a hole in it. Drop the big container in the hole so it sits below the level of the bench. You can then put pots in the container to scoop the mix into them and there's no mess or waste...and if you need to work with a pot on the bench, you just sweep the excess back into the container. Put the lid on and you don't get any debris and it stays moist.

A container that would hold 15-20 gal is what I'm thinking of.

Melody,
Thank you for the warm welcome and your suggestion is certainly helpful. If I ever get my potting shed I am sure to put your idea to work. It will save a lot of time with cleanup and keep everything neater.

Welcome Linda. A closet or cabinet in the shed with doors, and locks if children are around, for storing chemicals is quite important. It is so easy to contaminate things if containers are damaged by accidentaly being left out where children or pets can access them.
