I'd like to take on:
Amn Miller, C (F)
..is that supposed to be "Ann" instead of "Amn" or does Amn mean something in miltary? (which I am thinking it does..lol)
Our troops in the middle east
Here is another site that does a wonderful thing for the troops this time of year. They provide free airline tickets to junior service people, through donations, so that they can fly home for the holidays.
http://www.lbeh.org/index.php
this is just so unexpected, but highly appreciated.
I will certainly update the list and thankyou Jo for the sidebar advice.
All names are preceded with their rank so in example for the name Lisa has chosen, the address would be
Miller, C
380 ESFS / SFO (A/B)
APO, AE
09853-5000
This address is specifically to their unit so initials were only provided if there were multiples of a last name. Hope this helps and thanks again.
blaine
Blaine...you did great on the adding the name of Lisa. Jo
I'm going to put a link to here on some of the other forums...
Ooh! Ohhhh! Me! Me!!! (raising hand like the famous Horshak!)
I'll take SSgt Brakeville!
:>) Many Thanks!
Cool! I love penpals! I would like to have a penpal.. I will let you who want to be pen pal with? hmmm let u know soon.
Oh my, I must take Amn Macdonald (F)
since we share a last name! Very unusual to spell it like that also!
All these ideas in this thread are so great. I will start my box immediately (I wonder if she could use some brug seeds, LOL) and go buy some Christmas cards to get off today!
So I mail it like this???
Macdonald
380 ESFS / SFO (A/B)
APO, AE
09853-5000
What does
Amn stand for?
How much does it cost I wonder to call home from Iraq. I was just thinking the phone cards tucked into the Christmas cards would be nice.
Thanks all.
Blaine, I'll take SrA Lawson (F). Can you tell us what the temps are like over there now? I'll come back and pick up another one if we don't have enough folks to fill the bill.
ALL - the font doesn't let me line things up nice and neat. But, I did sort it by last name and put all the (F)emales at the top. The members spoken for are at the bottom of the list now.
Hope that helps.
kell - that's exactly right and AMN stands for AirMan. I think that's the second rank they get so Amn McDonald is most likely very young and this is probably the first time ever away from home for the holidays. Or away from home at all.
blaine
Ok - I will take A1C Freeman.
Anyone have any idea how much postage is for a letter? Simple question but it would save me a trip to the post office!
Nicole
Ok - nother question... How long will it take my letter to get there? Should I send a Christmas card NOW so it doesn't miss Christmas?
Brugie
I am not good at writing letters but I will give it my all.
I keep going back to TSgt Sweitzer (F). It looks like we all picked females so far.
Can they also use stamps to write home? Do you think they would like Christmas cards to send to their family and friends?
I am happy you posted this on the Brugs forum. I might have missrd it.
Thanks, and love to all,
Sandy
One 37 cent stamp is all it takes. Just like anywhere else stateside.
It's been taking 8 - 9 days for a letter OR package so far.
So if you want it there by Christmas, I'd mail by the 12th.
HI....I would like A1C Winters.
Being a Navy brat - I know how little things can mean so much!!!
Thanks for this opportunity.
Oh - I'm going to do one now and then closer to Christmas - just wanted to make sure I didn't miss it!
Thanks!
.37 is awesome~!
I was just thinking that printing out a joke and putting it in with your cards would be fun for them. Give a chuckle!
I am going to put in a couple of pics too - to show them what they are fighting for back home...
Well, this is telling how old I am, lol, but during Vietnam the local newspaper printed a list of soldiers with addresses, and we put together care boxes for many of them and mailed to them. We sent things like cigarettes, candy bars, jeez, I can't remember all of the stuff we sent. It felt really good to do it, and we got a lot of letters back thanking us. I think I'll do that, send to several instead of just one.
The list is updated AlohaHoya... (my first duty station was the USS Goldsborough DDG20 in Pearl)
My son says they may all get fat from the candy and stuff that's been sent and they love every bit of it. Not everyone gets pkgs but they share.
Want something different that most people don't think about but Ira (son A1C Nesbitt) said he had to guard with his life?
Beef Jerky!
thanks to all
~~~ Oh Yeah! You can also mention you've seen their group picture and ask which one they are. "Where in the world is Waldo?"
Here are the restrictions that apply to this list of soldiers for your convenience
A1. Mail addressed to "Any Servicemember," or similar wording such as "Any Soldier," "Sailor," "Airman," or "Marine"; "Military Mail"; etc., is prohibited. Mail must be addressed to an individual or job title such as "Commander," "Commanding Officer," etc.
B. PS Form 2976-A is required for all mail weighing 16 ounces or more, with exceptions noted below. In addition, mailers must properly complete required customs documentation when mailing any potentially dutiable mail addressed to an APO or FPO regardless of weight. The following are exceptions to the requirement for customs documentation on nondutiable mail that weighs 16 ounces or more:
• Known mailers are exempt from providing customs documentation on non-dutiable letters, and printed matter weighing 16 ounces or more. (A known mailer is anyone who legally applies a permit imprint to a mailpiece. Mail with meter postage is not considered to be from a known mailer.)
• All federal, state, and local government agencies are exempt from providing customs documentation on mail addressed to an APO or FPO, except for those APOs/FPOs to which restriction B2 applies.
• Prepaid mail from military contractors is exempt, providing the mailpiece is endorsed "Contents for Official Use - Exempt from Customs Requirements."
B1. PS Form 2976 or 2976-A is required. Articles are liable for customs duty and/or purchase tax unless they are bona fide gifts intended for use by military personnel or their dependents. When the contents of a parcel meet these requirements, the mailer must endorse the customs form, "Certified to be a bona fide gift, personal effects, or items for personal use of military personnel and dependents," under the heading, Description of Contents. Exceptions: All other exceptions listed in restriction B above are applicable to this restriction.
E2. Any matter containing religious materials contrary to Islamic faith or depicting nude or seminude persons, pornographic or sexual items, or nonauthorized political materials is prohibited.
F. Firearms of any type are prohibited in all classes of mail. See definitions of firearms in DMM C024.1.1C. This restriction does not apply to firearms mailed to or by official U.S. government agencies. The restriction for mail to this APO/FPO ZIP Code does not apply to firearms mailed from this APO/FPO ZIP Code, provided ATF and USPS regulations are met. Antique firearms are a separate category defined in DMM C024.2.0 and ATF regulations; they do not require an ATF form.
H1. Pork or pork by-products are prohibited.
R. All alcoholic beverages, including those mailable under DMM C021, are prohibited.
R1. Materials used in the production of alcoholic beverages (i.e., distilling material, hops, malts, yeast, etc.) are prohibited.
U2. Mail is limited to First-Class Mail letters only when addressed to Box R.
V. Express Mail Military Service (EMMS) not available from any origin.
Z1. The Anti-Pilferage Seal (Item No O818-A) is required on all pouches and sacks.
May I please have A1C Johnson (F) ?
Thanks :)
I'm so glad I started this thread, thank you all for everything that you are doing for our troops.
Thanks again
Vi
I will take AMN Masterson
I may come back for another one after people select theirs.
I spoke to the post office today...they said packages can be mailed to the soldiers up until Dec. 11th...except a couple of the APO/FPO numbers which had to be in by the 6th...I didn't write the numbers down though....there was just a couple of them....so sending packages?? Get them mailed by the 11th!!! Jo
SSgt Smith, K..................for me...thanks for providing names for us.
It's not about politics, it's not about anything except folks who aren't at home with loved ones to be there, to garden, to give love - they're all just away - way far away from home.
you might if you have high speed, click here and turn up the speakers....pick someone and write to them - thanks again 8ftbed :)
MaVieRose... just use the name. Sra and Ssgt are ranks and my son said we shouldn't include ranks in the address. Thanks!
Thanks Dea... that's AWESOME! Thank you so very much
Thank you Blaine. glad i inquired.
have another question for u Blaine or anyone: we do not have 1st name, just last name, what if there are one person of the same last name? what happens then?
It's fine. The address is for this unit only. So in the list you'll notice that first / middle initials are only included if there are more than one. (i.e. Smith, P Smith K, and Smith L)
It's like all 134 of them were living in your house.
Thanks again. just didn't want card/pkg to land in limbo.
Hi there..I will take SSgt. Rodgerson and A1C Shafer.
Thanks for this thread.
Kris
8ft,
My 13 yo son would like to secrect A1C Nesbitt as his penpal.
I'd like to have A1C Andrade.
My son is also going to talk to his creative writing teacher tomorrow to see if they can make it a class project. Would that be cool?
Isn't this just wonderful?? Get'em now...going like hot cakes!! Jo
Sign me up please for SrA Skillman. Thanks.
MSJen - Absolutely. That would be a wonderful thing. I'm going to cheat a bit and send a note to my son to pass the word around they better all answer if they get a letter. : ) btw, tell your son he picked a fine candidate. I can send you a little background and a picture to your mail if you'd like. ?
8ft,
That would be great. I'm going to send a note to his teacher in the morning to see how we can go about making this work. Everybody keep your fingers crossed!!!
He would love to see the pic, do you know the him personally?
jen
Oh 8ftbed, please do not tell your son that. These kids are doing so much already for us, I do not care if mine never writes back! I am sure they are so busy just trying to keep things going over there in all that heat and sand.
Which reminds me, is it still so hot there where they need the sunscreen etc?
This is a wonderful idea, 8ft. We all should do whatever we can to support our brave soldiers.
I'd like Amn Hurt as my penpal, please.
Nik
They're going fast. Let me know one that is unspoken for, and the kids and I will get something off, hopefully in time for Christmas. Male or Female is OK.
Chris
