Grace Slick just turned 65! Only those who know who Grace Slick is will appreciate just how OLD this makes me feel! Shall we all hold hands and hum a few bars of "White Rabbit"?

Pati,
I remember Grace Slick, so your not alone. But I am just a few years younger than "Dear Old Grace". Correct me if I am wrong, but I would bet the farm on "Jefferson Airplane".
Honeybee~Bonnie
That's funny! DH & I were just talking about White Rabbit and Jefferson Airplane last night at dinner. He was in Vegas a couple of weeks ago for a convention and went to see The Blue Man Group (you've seen them on TV & commercials). He said at one point in their act they popped up some signs that said something like.....
If you're under 30 read this sign.....
If you're over 65 read this sign.....
and the last one said 31-64 read this sign.
He read the last one and his friend read the under 30 sign. The friend's sign said.......
"The business man sitting next to you that looks like a banker is singing all the words to this song because it reminds him of his wild & crazy days."
ROFL!!!
Yep, yep, yep.......espescially when the grandkids look at Grandma funny when she knows all the words to their new favorite songs.........that just happen to be 40 years old!! ')
"eyes"
When Grace left Jefferson Airplane (I think it was after it became Starship), the group was never the same, to me at least. I saw her on a program on HGTV about celebrity gardens. Her hair is snow white and her face is still just as beautiful! She's a little heavier, but aren't we all. LOL
Pati
P.S. I LOVE Blue Man Group! Your DH is so lucky to see them in person.
Yeah.....I was kind of bummed I decided NOT to go to Vegas with him this time. I would have loved to have seen them. We saw Penn & Teller there last year and they were GREAT!
That's a riot thinking of Grace gardening. Just not the mental image I have of her even all these many years later! My 14 yr old son, 11 yr old daughter and 18 yr old neice were at dinner with us last night and they had NO CLUE who or what we were talking about! At least your grandkids are hipper than mine Eyes (at least in MY book!). lol
"White Rabbit" was banned from the airwaves in Napa, CA. Didn't matter-we all had a copy anyway. I do find it disturbing to have so many songs I loved turned into commercials. They can't get you by product recognition (their products aren't any better than the next guys) so they do it with the songs.
Edited to say: Patti we are not going to hum a few bars-We're gonna belt out the whole thing!!

Grace Slick is 65? Icons should not be allowed to age, LOL!
I coached a girl's softball team in the 1970's... the Mad Hatters. Need to say what our team song was? All the girls (18-24) had a nickname from the story of Alice in Wonderland, CS Lewis.
ah ha! But who knows who the lead female vocalist for Jefferson AirPlane was BEFORE Grace?
Signe Anderson
Hmmm....Pville...surely it wasn't Janis, was it? Just guessing. (My mind was a bit foggy for a few years there, for some reason.)
AHAH! Found it!

Very good frog.
LOL..Horseshoe.......ya but you cheated!
Yes it was Signe Toly Anderson, who is 64.
"Will ya still need me, will ya still feed me, when I'm 64?"
Hey, That's not Jefferson Airplane!
boy there's just no getting anything past you darius....LOLOL
I jus' couldn't help it, Pville! I just had to know!!!!!
I think it's great that these old rock'n' rollers made it to be 64! Look how many didn't, for one reason or the other.
Hmmm...wish I still had a turn table...I could go play some of my albums!
I hear ya Horseshoe.....What a shame Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendricks, etc. all lost it in their prime :-(
Ten four on that! Heck, all of them together would've made a great band, eh? (And don't forget Duane Allman, on slide.)
Pville, I've been around the block a few times... sometimes I just forget which block.
'Shoe... it's almost impossible to buy a turntable anymore except fot the very expensive audiophile ones.
I hope someday to buy the software to transcribe my vinyl records into my computer, take out the noise and hiss, and get them on cd's. Many are out of print... like Elizabeth Cotten, a NC native, long dead now.
LOL darius.....well I am a child of the 60s, was a bonefide card carrying, woodstock attending hippy. I've since hung up my fringed vests and bell bottoms but I've still got the long hair and the tude to go with it. Wish I had known you were looking for a turntable/record changer. I just sold a Girrard a couple of weeks ago for about $40. Don't know if you have a Frye's Electronics near you but they carry them regularly for under $100.
Horseshoe.....yep....he does a mean slide....but I think Bonnie Raitt does too.
Hello,
I think this will be my new thread......unless it gets too long.....
'SHOE,
My handle was ' WHITE RABBIT'.............What a blast from the past.
Linda
Pville... I actually have a good turntable (in storage)... Bang & Olafson with a NEW needle. I got the LAST needle to fit it the B&O store in Lenox Plaza (Atlanta) carried when I was looking for a new needle some time back. It's never been used. Need to get my stereo set up again as I get stuff moved in!
I was a child of the 50's so missed the "hippy" phase, but not the music. I love a lot of diffrent kinds of music, excepting Rap and some jazz. I have lots of opera and classical vinyl that I picked up for almost nothing when 33rpm records went out of vogue... plus I have a nice collection of OOP Appalachian and Bluegrass records along with my 50's and 60's music.
a lot of my operas on on 78s....including a couple that my father recorded.
Cool. I still have a few 78's, mostly stuff like Glenn Miller... scratchy sounding but still wonderful.
Yep....I have several 78 albums that are like leather bound photo albums with about a dozen record sleeves bound in them....and they are heavy suckers. Image what those would cost if they still produced them that way.
Yikes....I'm already out of Halloween candy!
Good thing about being in the boonies is no trick-ot-treaters. Bad thing about being in the boonies is no trick-ot-treaters.
I have a small collection of classical records that are pressed on a transparent burgundy-colored vinyl. Some are virgin... never even been played once. I treat thm carefully.
How cool is that! Haven't seen any of those for quite a while. Some of those are collector's items. I recently sold a virgin Timothy Leary LSD album for about $500.
How wonderful!
I don't know enough to know if I have any collectibles or not... or if I want to sell them. Many are just ordinary.. Kingston Trio "Hungry i" kinda things.
oh my....I was madly in love with Nick, Dave, and Tom when I was about 12.
I don't sell mine either. I'm a sales broker by profession.....mostly collections and estates....so the one I sold belonged to a client.
What an interesting profession!
It's sorta like being a vicarious collector. I get to see and touch some incredible stuff.....I just can't keep it...LOL
How do you get clients?
Mostly word of mouth these days. I originally did contract work for an real estate agency a few years ago. I brokered the buying and selling of businesses. That led to brokering business assets when owners died or retired, and that led to liquidating estates. A lot of estates have antiques and collectibles....so that led to so on and so on and so on. There are only a few others that do what I do in my area and from what several clients tell me they do less and charge more (meaning I am probably cheap and easy...LOL). So, I have more of a problem with having to turn away clients than getting them.
Memories**** When my DH and I married 18 years ago, we had "White Wedding" playing when We walked down the isles!!!! Memories****
The last time I got married (and I do mean the LAST time...lol) I used Celene Dion's"Because You Loved Me" sung by my best friend who has a gorgeous voice.
Geeeeze.....I've been through 3 big bags of snickers and m&ms and 2 bags of DH's Creme Savers and the trick or treaters are still beating a path to my door!
Turn out the lights, LOL!
I think I'm going to have to! I usually go till 9pm before I turn off the lights and shut the door...but think I'm going to have to do it at 8 this year :-(
whew....I finally turned off the porch light and shut the front door.
So, Halloween is over for you? Good!
If you ever come across any David Lance Goines prints, please let me know. Or a Buyer for them as I may want to sell some... signed and numbered only, either way. Except prints from the book "30 Recipes Suitable for Framing" which were not signed.
will do darius....added it to my data base.
This may run a little back to the original topic, but Grace Slick went to 'finishing school' with the Nixon girls.
Love my old vinyl...go to estate sales and pick up whole collections for a song. between me and my younger sis, we've probably got 5000 vinyl records of some sort or another. They range from Big Band 78's to Big Brother and the Holding Company.
