We're driving to NH next week to visit friends and family. We haven't been back for a year and are looking forward to it. Going to brag about this KY weather and Southern hospitality! See you all when we get back!!
Back to NH for a visit.
hah! Brag on!
And have a safe trip! Hope you are taking some home grown goodies w/ya! Er, wait!...that might make your NH folks wanna come back to KY w/ya!
Red, God speed! Enjoy your visit..."nothing feels so good as going home!" I know you have lots of good memories there!Tell those folks about our southern hospitality.
Gary/Louisville
Red, If you are passing through my hometown of Berkshire County, Massachusetts, will you give a big wave to all of our family there....[pittsfield, gt. barrington, lee, lenox, stockbridge, becket, hinsdale, dalton] any one of those towns will do. Hope all the leaves aren't gone yet. Be safe. Kathy
Have a safe trip and be sure to come back! We need you here in the Bluegrass!
Welcome to New Hamphire...I hope your stay is wonderfull here, in the Granite State.
Shoe, Gary, Giorio; Many thanks!
Kathy, I'll wave from afar as I don't go through Mass. I go up Rte 81 to 84 to 87 into New York and then through Vermont into NH.
Mel, I surely will be back!
Have a great trip...and I'm with Melody...be sure and come back!! Jo
Thanks Jo, you can count on it!
Hello,
I live in NH
where are your friends??????
Linda
Linda, I come from your area, I was born and raised in New Hampton just a few miles from Danbury. I also have friends/family in Bristol as well. I used to work for Charlie & Ginnie Reynolds at his auctions in Bristol. I also have friends and family in Franklin, Andover, Hill, Tilton and Northfield as well as some surrounding areas. I graduated from Bristol High in 1956 (guess I'm telling my age). :o) I was also a selectman in New Hampton for 13 years until I moved to Salisbury, NH when I retired, then moved down here last year because of the high taxes and lo-o-o-ong, cold winters.
Stay in touch, it's always nice to talk from people back home! I'll be off-line until around the 11th when I get back. Talk to you then.
Red
Oh my gosh, Red. I haven't heard the term selectman in a long time. Now I know we're getting closer to home...:) K
I know Kath, it's a term I haven't heard down here at all, I don't what they call the equivalent to a selectman down here. 'Course they don't have 'towns' down here either, only 'counties'. I'll figure it out someday!
I think they call them magistrates here.....I love it here, but sometimes I feel like a fish out of water....LOL
Change of plan, our house/dog setter backed out at the last minute so we're unable to go at this time. So, it's separate vacations, My DW is flying up in a couple of weeks and I'll be driving up in January to do some ice fishing. We're disappointed that we can't go together but that's the way the cookie crumbles! :o)
Oh Red, that's discouraging. There is a reason for everything though. If I were closer, I'd keep an eye on the house and pup for you!!! Darn.
Gee Red, I could have come and house /dog sat for you and used the chance to visit Kathy too. Remember me the next time you want to go on an excursion together with your DW to NH.
Are you sure you want to ice fish! Iknow, I know it's great thing ..... just not mine.It would rather fish ona warm sunny day.
Dianne
Kidneygirl, Where you been? Good to see you hear. You are a real sweetheart, I knew there was a reason I liked you so much....:) Red, it's not cold enough to go ice fishing yet, and maybe not in January.....
But guess what, my SIL told me today, snow is on its way this weekend to the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
I'm with you D about the fishing....
Hi, Red!
Too bad you aren't coming up now, we still have some nice color, or did until the wind today. You probably know my grandparents if you lived in New Hampton that long - they had Old Kelly Tavern Pottery and later Toad Hall Pottery.
Cedar
Well folks, it's finally going to happen! I'm leaving for NH on Monday the 10th. Looks likes I'll miss any storms on my drive up, it's snowing like crazy up there now, I understand.
Linnea, I didn't mean to ignore your post, I just saw it when I returned to this post. It's a small world after all! I was raised in the house directly across from the tavern. I lived there for 12 years!
See you all when I return on the 19th!
Have a great trip, Red. (Taking any home-grown canned goods with ya? A body needs to brag from time to time ya know!)
Drive careful. Maybe you can check in from up there sometime, eh?
Have a safe trip Big Red. Be careful if you go icefishing. The news last night said the ice is not safe to drive on.
We've had such a fluctuation of temps. Thursday is supposed to be in the 50's and then back into the deep freeze.
Thanks Shoe;
Maybe I can check in on one my friends 'puter who's online if I don't forget!
Snowhermit;
My son tells me that none of the big lakes are frozen in central NH so I guess they'll be no lake trout fishing, just pan fishing on some of the small ponds. I'm still looking forward to it. Other than family, ice fishing is one of the few things I miss about NH.
It's funny, when my wife went to NH about a month ago she couldn't wait to get back home to Kentucky, and she's the one who had a hard time with the move!
Big Red, Being from Massachusetts and moving here to KY. I was so sad to leave New England, that was 18 years ago. I had all kinds of thoughts about KY and what I found is that it is a great place to live and the people (most of them) are awesome.
Oh, I miss so many people back home and I miss the fall foliage and the four seasons, but when I go "home" and I'm anxious to get back "home". Someone once told me, "you can never go back", I now know what they meant, it is never the same place you left. I suspect if I left KY and moved back to MA, after a while I would have the same feelings about KY.....it just wouldn't be the same place I used to live.
I am hoping to get up to MA in the next month or so to see my mother and I know I'll be anxious to get back home to KY again. I wish you a wonderful trip, a great time with family and friends, and the peace to know that your home is really where your heart is.
Godspeed, Kathy
What route will you be taking? I'll track your progress and shout out a "hello" when when you traverse the NY/CT line! LOL! I'm assuming you'll ne on I95 by then, eh? Sure glad you're coming up this week and not last. You should have some very decent weather as it's supposed to warm up a bit!
I know what you mean about "home" - I think a little piece of your heart stays in every place you've lived. I've lived all over the country so I don't really get homesick - I've always followed the doctrine that home is where I hang my hat! I spent a year in Paducah and loved it! Beautiful country, wonderful people!
Sequee, When I go to MA from KY, I take the NY Thruway and get on 90 in MA at the Lee, MA exchange. I would suspect that Big Red will be doing something like that or.........instead of even going through MA, going to NH via Vermont. I don't come anywhere near 1 95 anymore.
I will be flying this time, I'm sure, and I haven't decided if I will fly into Albany or Hartford, they are usually the same price and the same distance from my hometown of Hinsdale, MA.
Is the NY Thruway I-87 (Duh - I only love here - LOL!) If that's so, you must do I87 to I84 to I90, right? In which case you drive within a mile of my house! How cool!
No, We go through Buffalo and avoid NYC at all costs :) It is I 90 that goes through NY. I 87 is in the lower part of the state.
I lived about 45 from Albany, NY. Do you know where New Lebanon, NY or Canaan, NY is? They were right across the state border.
When I was younger, NY had Sunday sales of alcohol and a lot of people would "Go Over The Line" and we knew that they were going to get "refreshments".... And the drinking age was 18 in NY a while before it was 18 in MA and I, being like all the other teenagers, would cross the line to partake. I'm so glad they changed it back to 21.
:) Kathy
Ah, upstate NY - never would have guess that! To me Buffalo just does NOT seem like it's on the way to anywhere! LOL! I'm really not familiar with anything beyond the Rhinebeck/Woodstock area. I do go antiquing in the Cooperstown area once in a while, but that's about it!
Funny, isn't it? Drinking at 18's only a good thing when You're 18!
Cooperstown, Baseball Hall of Fame :) I turned 18 the year they changed it to 18, looking back it was not good :( A long story, but I may not have lost someone in my life if they hadn't changed it.
I like to believe that God makes a place in Heaven for the people He needs to be there. Perhaps your friend would just have made his/her way to Heaven in a different manner?
Sorry for your sadness, though. It's very to hard to lose someone we love!
Sequee;
I go up I-81 to I-84 in Penn to I-87 into NY to Rte 7 in Troy, NY and Rte 7 takes me into VT and then Rte 9 into NH (Rte 7 turns into Rte 9 at the NY/VT state line).
I'll wave on the way through! ☺
Ok, gotcha - that one I know! I take I87 up from Jersey or PA when I'm visiting familiy, then I connect with I84 for the home stretch!
Safe journey! We'll miss you!
Big Red, We've done the PA one before and it was much longer and very, very tedious.....Have you ever tried going up 71 and then to 90?
We also did the 71 to Wheeler and then points beyond, that one was too long as well...
Of course, this time of year, you could run into snow in the Fingerlakes region of NY. We hit snow on the PA turnpike and it was not fun at all.
Which ever way you go, have a good, safe trip and enjoy yourself. :)
Thanks for the well wishes everyone!
Kathy, haven't tried the 71 route yet, I tried going up 75 and across 64 but this too was loooong! Guess I'll stick to the one I'm familiar with.
What time you headin' out?
Leaving at daylight tomorrow morning, see you when I get back!
Ok, now...GO TO BED !
Well if you get a whim, you just take 64 East to 71 N. Go through Cincinnati, go through Columbus and take the Bypass around 71 in Cleveland, and then head 90East. You can get on 87 N from 90E and hook up with Rte. 7 in Troy. It is all good road all the way and a lot of truck stops, rest areas, etc. on the way.
I always felt like I could fall asleep driving on the PA Pike.
Be safe. Don't forget to bring back some maple syrup....:) K
Big Red, I may have missed you, but I think we may have acquaintances in common - I used to play with the Drake kids that lived in that house, but I haven't seen any of them in years.
Hope you have a wonderful visit - we put the snow out for you.
Cedar
