Election Workers

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Is anyone an election worker here? I'm an election assistant chief and I have no idea what it's like working at the elections. Does anyone have any experience here?

I have worked the elections for probably 15 years. We have a whole new system here this time--like a scantron-- and they are expecting a 75 to 80% turnout locally, so it ought to be a pip! Wear comfortable shoes, no jewelry--elephants or donkeys, and a big smile. Most people are very nice, and the real stinkers will be the clerk's problem anyway. In the off year elections I always take my book or needlepoint, but this time I doubt there will be time for that. It is an interesting process to watch, and people from all viewpoints assume you agree with them--it is funny. We have a couple very hot local issues that are almost pushing the presidential race to the back burner. It must be true, all politics are local.

Good luck,

Judy

How do you become one? I always thought it would be interesting. Binky :))))))

Thanks JJBS. My Monday meeting is tomorrow and I haven't even studied the booklets yet.

Binky1972, when you sign up to vote (which I did this year when I turned 19) they'll ask you if you want to become an election judge or you can find ads in the newspaper. They're always looking for people. If you'd like I can find a number for you and maybe they could refer you to your local board of elections.

Hmm... I looked at my election materials and all I have are local numbers. I'm sure you can find the number by doing a search. Maybe call your local board of elections?

My husband is news director for a local radio station, and they'll be covering them, so he'll be working tomorrow night.

Binky,

Get a hold of your city or township or county clerk. They are almost always crying for people. Here it is all "Ladies of advanced years". I am second youngest, and I am 52! Most people work and are not available. I work, but can arrange to be available. Good Luck.

They did tell us that we might get reporters and media. And that the two assistant chiefs will deal with them. Meaning me!

I have served four times and the County Election office requires you to attend a 2 1/2 hour training session. Then you are assigned to a voting site. Even if you have served before you have to attend these training sessions. It was a long day beginning at 5:00 am setting up and we usualy got away about 7:00 pm or there abouts after closing up.
