(She's a real slave-driver). The apartment and its setting is great. She's scubbed and painted and added shelving and lighting galore. We went to her aunt's house on the lake where she's been living for the last half year and brought 2 loads of belongings back. There are a lot more boxes and other items to go.
darius just said, "well we have one knife, one fork and one spoon between us." She is preparing a fabulous meal of roast pork tenderloin with fresh rosemary and garlic, beets sauteed with orange and onion, roasted white sweet potatoes, and mustard greens.
We're going to get another truck load of stuff tomorrow and go to Nantahala Gorge sighseeing. Creat whitewater river. This is a hoot!
I'm at darius', hanging out.
Oooooh, lucky you Betty, her cooking and great scenery!
Hi Darius! Make sure you take a break and post some pics of you two and your inhabited new digs will ya?
Oh, you are lucky! I got to visit with her a few weeks ago in Kentucky, so I'm not TOO jealous. I'd love to see everything she's done there; I wish I had half as much home skill know-how and patience.
Yeah, lucky you and lucky Darius too. If you can definatly take some pics like all the boxes, before and after stuff, you know the routine, LOL. Dont hurt yourselves and have fun.
NO FAIR!!!! Y'all get to have all the fun. (whine, whine). Guess I'll have to miss another autumn in the mountains (sigh). Sure would love that trip over to Nantahala, it's been years since I've been there (sob). But y'all just have fun and don't worry 'bout poor me, bless your hearts.

Next morning, I am allergic to darius' cat. My eyes look like I've been drunk for a week. But the weather is beautiful and we're getting ready to go get another truckload of stuff. What a packrat she is, lol. So much gourmet cooking stuff, house-building tools, and of course, books. Her taste in interior decorating and art items is exquisite. But her tales are the most fun...............
Yeah, yeah, rub it in. LOL
It sounds like you girls are having lotsa fun! So helping her move, you have to know one of little secrets. Tell us, Tell us! What is it?
...I know, I know! She's not so gourmet after all. You found her stash of Spam and Vienna Sausages that she really loves to eat when people aren't around. :-}~
WISH I WAS THERE!!!!! I'm not allergic to cats! LOL!
Sweezel - LOL!!!
Keep us posted!!
Well, Woodspirit is on her way back across the mountain. I have to say it was a lot of fun to spend some time with her again. (I was only about 45 miles away when I still lived in Asheville and we did garden stuff together from time to time.)
Some things really were a hoot, like dinner. I brought a dozen packed boxes the day before from my storage units 45 miles away... dishes, pots & pans, coffee cups, and a box marked "flatwear" as part of the contents, and I shopped for food to make a nice meal, both for her and because I was tired of not having a decent meal recently.
Imagine my surprise just before dinner was ready last night to find absolutely NO flatwear in the box. I had only ONE spoon I had brought from my aunt's lake house for the wet food for my cat. Luckily Woodspirit found an upopened package of a plastic fork/knife/napkin in one of our vehicles so she saved the day. (I did have a chef's knife for the roast and 2 large slotted cooking spoons but it would have been hard to eat with those.)
Can't you just see us trying to share my one spoon for our lovely dinner (served on fine china and drinking from crystal wine glasses) if she hadn't found the plastic set, LOL! (It was too dark and we were too tired to go back to the lake house, so we had to make do.)
Plus, I forgot to bring more toilet tissue from the nearly full case at the lake house, and we ran out. Can you believe she actually had a roll of tp in her car? LOL, she saved the day once again and we camped out in style!
sounds like you had a blast!! little nerve-wracking before she found the tp, I'll bet!
Just found this, sounds like it was fun, my dad always said work shared is the best way to do things.
I always carry tp and papr towels in my car. and work gloves, plant nippers, plastic bags for seeds. a plastic coffe jar for nippings in water. and of course windex to keep the windshield clear for shooting 'road' pictures. teehee doesn't everybody?
Blooms, I usually carry almost the same things, LOL. Somehow the "truck bag" got misplaced in the last 10 days. Mine also has small binoculars, a compass, and some extra things like protein bars, candles, waterproof matches and the like.
We did about as much "work" as you could expect from two women getting a bit long in the tooth, LOL.
when my granddaughter turned 16, I made up a big flat plastic box with jumper cables, a flare, a flashlight, 2 cans of tire inflator, toilet paper, wet wipes, and paper towels. I am looking for a flat 1-gal. jug to add to it.
I will post pictures from darius' shortly
What happened to the email to let me know you arrived home safely? LOL.
er-r-r-r, you cat burned my brain? I got home about 5 p.m., was slowed a bit by fog in Highlands and rain in Cashiers. It was like a different world here after the beautiful weather at your house.
I am having a little difficulty with the camera; I may have to post the pix tomorrow......B
In Cashiers does it rain money?
LOL, GW... Cashiers IS money. (It's pronounced CASHers, and they DO have the money.) VERY expensive town, and I doubt they part with any of it, LOL.
Yes, they get miffed if you mispronounce it. It's filled with quaint shops, restaurants and expensive resort develpments. Highlands is about 10 miles away and about 1000 feet higher. It's the Highest incorporated town in the east. And it's prices are Higher than Cashiers.
wow, sounds like you gals had the time of your lives......wish i was there....
What fun - I'm looking forward to the photos :)
sounds like a great time.... I admired the photos from Darius' post on finding the place.... very nice that DG can bring together friends like this! :)
Looking forward to the photos of the visit.
I swear I sent these pictures elsewhere. Can anyone explain what the difference is between the General Discussion Forum and the Parking Lot Forum?
Hi woodspirit
The Parking Lot is a forum that is only for paid subscribers of DG
It isn't visible to any general browsers, so is more for personal things that we don't want to be seen by the whole world
Love the photos thanks :)
oh good. So does that mean I can show the picture of darius swimming nude in her creek?
I bet she doesn't have her body in that cold, cold water.
Our creek is too cold for me in the summer. burrrr
Weird with the cherry trees. Then again, my azaleas always spit out a little flush of blooms in the fall.
Darius, I am so happy to hear that you are getting settled in at your new home. What has me amazed is the picture of you in front of your storage space. All of your boxes inside are so neatly stacked and organized - most people just cram them in to the fullest to save a few bucks because monthly storage fees go by the size that is rented. I hope it won't be too long until you are settled in completely, and are able to relax and enjoy the beauty of your new place and it's surroundings. ;o)
Thanks, Carol! How are you and Adam doing now that you are married? Miss talking with you...
HA! It's a false impression. Darius had written on the boxes twice. Every time you opened one, it was a surprise! LOL, I'm really giving you a hard time, aren't I, girl?
But you can get me back because I am so senile that I forgot where I posted the pictures......
:)
Darius, You have a town name now :) I am sitting here thinking how worn out you must be, not from just this move, but you have moved more than anyone else I know in the last year. I wish you solid ground for a while!!! Have fun unpacking and I'm sorry, Wood....I don't think I want to see the picture of D in the creek nekid.... I wouldn't want to see a picture of me in the creek nekid either, so don't take it personal Darius.
So glad you had a good friend to help you move. Wish I could come help you out too.
Happy Day, Kathy
Odd about the cherry tree.....
Darius, are you almost settled in? I still think you two had way too much fun moving....
I don't wish I could come help you move, but I'd love to help you decorate! That's my bag. :)
I just found this thread - and to think I pelted Darius with "...whatever musings may visit..." and "... Well, Darius... Are you doing anything
special this weekend? Planting bulbs?" and "What would Mole [in The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame] think of your home?" - while you are moving house and schmoozing with cougars! LOL
Am glad you had a friend to help, too. How do you get your brain to work so well after such a day of brute labor? My brain is still chewing on the symbolism you described in your beautiful gourds.
Kathy... NO way I would get in that cold creek, nekkid or not, LOL! I'd become a statue, frozen in place...
Karen, I have almost NO mind left and still about 3 weeks of moving boxes to do.
GW, I long for the time to decorate, but gotta get all the stuff moved here and organized first so I can stop the payments on storage units. I did get the LR painted before I actually took possession (which helps my feelings about this place a LOT) and have actually put a couple of my prints up, mostly to keep from tripping over them!
Woodspirit, you can tease me all you want... but remember you are just a couple of years younger so your time is coming too!
