How wonderful and inspiring is this...................

Sometimes you just gotta garden no matter what.......................

Here is a soldier stationed in Iraq, stationed in a big sand box. He asked his wife to send him dirt, fertilizer and some grass seeds so he can have the sweet aroma and feel the grass grow beneath his feet. If you notice, he is even cutting the grass with a pair of a scissors.

Sometimes we are in such a hurry that we don't stop and think about the little things that we take for granted. Upon receiving this, please say a prayer for our soldiers that give (and give up) so unselfishly for us.

That is almost enough to make you cry. I am thrilled he got it!

my nephew came back from iraq in feb., after 14 months, and he said that he miss the little things in life the most. there's nothing like the smell of freshly mowed grass even if you have to use scissors.

Thanks, rikerbear, for sharing that. Breathe deeply, savor life. -- Hugs

Marc... HOW wonderful!

I'd hate being where I could not smell grass, and a plot the size of that soldier's would suffice.

rikerbear, does make us stop and think. It would be so awful to be where there wasn't much of any greenery. Donna

Who cares about smelling roses, fresh cut grass will do it evertime and no black spots either.

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Great photo, my son was there over a year and finally home now ,that was what he missed the most and kissed the ground when he finally did get home..they did a few similar things building and planting what they could to make their tent city a little more homey...
God bless all our troups still there..

And that's pretty nice patch of lawn he's got growing there too! Now he just needs some annual seeds!

Touching photo...thanks for sharing.

RiderBear,is there anything we can do to help our soldiers,on things like this?
Or with anything, that will help them.God Bless our soldiers!!

Colie, I really haven't seen or heard of any specific needs along these lines. Most of what is written and asked for are just simple things like sweets, shampoo, toothpaste, basic things like that.
But all those things aside, just a letter, a card, a short note snt to any of them means more than you could know.
And it's not just the ground soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also those sailors and marines aboard ships in the Persian Gulf who are routinely forgotten.

Badseed is right, that picture does make me cry. God bless that young man and all that protect us!

Rider-do you have an address? Or maybe a web site?

Columbus (Berwick), OH(Zone 5b)

Marc,

Can you please send me all the information on this photo or how to contact this person or his wife. I need to track him down

Thanx Raist

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I have absolutely no info on this man at all....this was one of the cover pictures used on a soldier pen-pal web site back a few months. The site has since been taken down and is no longer functioning.
I did make some good new friends via that site, and have been coorisponding with them for several months now.
I will do what I can to track down nayone from the old site that might (might) have some additional info for you.

Wow this is a timely post for me! :)

I was just discussing with my husband the other day "how we can give some of our soldiers some comfort from home". Be it a book, some special shampoo, whatever!! I would really like to adopt a couple of soldiers and send them items and maybe even correspondence if they would like it.

Is anyone familiar with this website?
