Lucky you, good luck with the bloom, i'll keep my fingers crossed...
Hg,putting on its first flower bud.
Wow, Tropicman -- no wonder this is a popular brug. Those blooms are gorgeous!
Terrie
HAd to go to the MG handbook to dbl check on the fertilizer specs.
so in 10 10 10, the first is always nitrogen, the second phosphorus (phosphate) and the 3rd -potassium (potash). If Monika likes a low middle no.,
she would like one high in nitrogen (i,e,urea) or high in potash (potassium chloride) or both. Since nitrogen encourages foliation i.e (grass seed), I want to combine the other two, or maybe just the potash.. Would love some feedback on this!
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/456358/ is one thread...
Then I did a search with Monika's name, and fertilizer in the box... lol here are the results. http://davesgarden.com/forums/search.php?forum=&search_text=fertilizer&limit=0&limit_poster=monika&Search=Search gosh I love going back through old threads. Thank you so much Monika for all your information!!
Tropicman i can see all the interest in this brug i have 2 HG,s real healthy but either one set buds i will give them one more chance next spring Bob
i have a question for you people since i am fairly ne it is great to have nicknames but many of us do not know peoples real names is their a list. Bob
Bob, I forgot to tell you that I enjoyed the pictures you sent. Especially the one with the fish. I haven't been fishing for several years and I'll bet that one tasted pretty good. Thanks again. I hope your envelope gets there okay.
Shirley
((( Shelly)))
Thanks !
Lots of info in Monika's advisaries; will rethink my HG program. All my Brugs have had yellow leaves, sort of a self pruning that has produced clean stems for the winter. That must be lack of iron. The blossoms have ended the summer pale and looking alike, as I've refrained from any fertilization for a month. So -- HG and the others will have some 16/4/24 plus fe and maybe some cal starting next spring. My pots are filled with compost, and will all be repotted.with fresh compost HG won't get anything to "eat" after next August except some fe.. He'd better produce!!!! Or he's out of here next Oct!!
Bob, the HG stands for "Herrenhauser Garten." They aren't nicknames so much as initials. I don't know of a list, but I'm sure one exists somewhere. Just ask if you are ever in doubt!
I've not heard of a list of "members" real names. I guess we could start one.
If any newbies want a brug abbreviation list
Send me your eMail addie .
I have not updated it since 2003 but I should help you get going.

I just went out and checked my B. herrenhauser Granten. I can't believe how slowly they are opening. One bloom has some hints of orange on it. The other's just look like white blooms still. We are suppose to have cool weather and rain the rest of the week. But I will be watching it.
Bob,I see we live just about the same zones, how do you overwinter yours?
Does anybody keep hg growing and feeding in a container all year long?
Or do you just barely keep her from going dormant?
Those Like Clare that are able to keep them growing ,and those that have them in the ground and keep growing,do you feed during the winter, and do you have blooms during the winter?
Mary in La,that posted hers in the plant data base,I'm wondering how hers has been doing since May,so that tells me she had a spring bloomer, where as everybody else seems to have more of a fall bloomer.
Jerodsmom, hope yors withers the storm allright!
Wow shelly did you type all that or copy and paste? LOL!
Hope from all this communication,we can find out the right weather conditons, feeding, that this plants loves, and get blooms for everyone.
Don
Don, One finger & blind-folded
hahahaha
Say just like me when I don't have my glasses on,heck even when I have them on!!!LOL!
Babies are leaving out just fine, can't wait until next spring, maybe some blooms even!
Don
I see no reason why any of them would not bloom.
Keep the faith =)
So far - so good, here too .
Sure will,eyes won't stay open,3:30am comes early,nite!
Hi Don! Mine stay out all year, but I don't fertilize them in the winter. Perhaps if I did, I would get more blooms, but I sort of go dormant myself in the winter and don't do much in the garden. I do get blooms in the wintertime -- usually in November and again around Christmas.
hi Tropicman i have my brugs downcellar in a room with bright lights and this spring we put a new furnance in the house so a had a extra register put in the wall. last year we had a real cold winter the larger brugs survived but i lost many cuttings to cold, but hopefully thjis year will be different. Bob
thanks ClaRE and Scooterbug for this information. very infoirmative. Bob
Bob, I am still stuffing; at least I try it lol!
Well, my first bloom opened and guess what. It was single but is definately turning orange. Has anyone else ever gotten a single bloom on a H.G.
I was just feeling the end of the bloom close to the stem and it doesn't feel like there is a second skirt in any of the blooms. I am sure hoping I was sent the right plant. I bought this plant two years ago from a very reputable seller. Maybe the tags just got switched between two of the brugs. They are all in bud.
Patricia
Hey Bob ! Get ta work ...... hehehehe !
Me thinks we spied a clear bench top and 'Good Grief Charlie Brown' ! ! ! ! ! !
We can see clear to the other side of the room ,
what's with the large EMPTY white wall. Should not be able to see that far . ....lol
Time to get serious.
Definitely , you have too much unused space, your brug children will be so lonely this winter
:'(
Yer better get some more brugs to balance the population. Diversity is very important to successfully over winter our brugs.
hahahahahahahaha !
*pssst* nice set-up
Clare,I think we all need a break from water and fertilizing, hmmm,I'm still watering and fertilizing!!!
Just a little tho.
Bob,I always cut back my plants about a third, and defoliated the leaves from halfway down to the soil line,a few will always yellow and fall off,and it also hepls the spidermite populaton from developing.
I did a quick soil check for ph,I'm about 6.8 to 7.0,thats while the plant is in self made compost over a year old, where it was planted in the ground, runs about 7.2 and maybe slightly higher, just wondering how much the ph has on the flowering of the hg,does anybody off hand know there soil ph?
Patricia, keep us posted on the other blooms, any chance of getting a pic?
Don
Hi Don, well I definitely found H.D. it is just starting to open and I can see the orange this morning. You can't see the color in the picture much yet, but I can see it. I can also feel that it is a double. Here is a picture this morning. You can just varily see the orange color on the trendils now.
Scoot - that's a great abbreviation list. It would be great to have it as a permanent thread, like the 'real name' one that is developing. Then, it could be added to. LindaSC
Linda it would get buried eventually .
I suggest you just make it a word doc. that you can add/edit it yourself.
With regard to wintering brugs, is it recommended to keep Culebra 'going' all year round??? Mine is slow growing, but healthy, without bugs and the heat, lack of water, fert, shade doesn't bother it and I have a perfect place with sun, inside, where it will fit nicely because it's so small...
I did that, thanks.
Hi Patricia,I'm so happy for you, await your future pics.
Good idea Shelly!
Scooter, thanks so much for the list!!! I've seen another, but it was much shorter than yours...
