Farewell bouquet

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Farewell to the garden. I been hauling in plants and getting cuttings the last few days. We have a cold spell coming. It's sure hard to see the garden go. I had to cut some to bring in to enjoy. Is everybody else getting their gardens put to bed for the winter?

I just threw out my last bouquet today. I picked them a few days ago and we've had hard freezes the last two nights.

I got the carrots dug today, so all the produce is in. (I have boxes of green maters all over)

I need to get out and dig my dahlia tubers. Do you think they are still okay even though the tops froze? I hope so.

Gotta make some Green Tomato Relish Joan!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm gonna make Chow Chow Mel! Yummy!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Larkie I know I still have zone envy. Vic thanks all my purple stuff is gone, things never work out like we plan in gardening. Joan its so sad to put it to bed but I am ready for a break. I still have my cannas. dahlia and caladiums to dig up yet. Joan I wait until my dahlias have had a frost on them to dig them, when you dig them up if the tubers feel frim then they should be ok. Mel is tempting us with great food again. Mel do you have a recipe you use?

The season ended here overnight. It was 25º all night. We had everything worth anything picked. Still some squash & pumpkins out there. We were wondering what would happen to the strawberries. My son says they look okay! Would be nice. We picked 17 pints last evening, and there are lots of green berries on them. Lots of very large berries last night, some as big as a golf ball!

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

We have a warning for tonight also. I didn't know until the late news . Must gt out and get things covered up. I don't have everything ready to bring in yet. Have been working on it. I have been in denial, our weather has been perfect lately. Oh well, all good things come to an end. I will mourn the loss of the season. I hate winter!!!!!!! Lou

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

The flowers are so BEAUTIFUL!!! Envy, envy, envy!!! My big ox of a dog dug up most of my flower bed. I think I have him broke now, kept turning the water on him when I caught him in the bed, but who knows. His saving grace is.... he loves me!!

We got him when he was about 10 months old, 5 months ago. He fell in love with me at Flea Market so my husband bought him ... $50. He's still a pup so there is lots of training yet to do.

I am ready to take a break and switch to building things In gh lots of modifications to do.

Will be as long as a month before I bring stuff in most is frost hardy or near the house so it takes a bit of cold.I find less bug problems if I leave out and trim well before I bring stuff in.

Dalhias are holding up well I will dig one of each and leave the rest in the ground if they make it they make it lots less work. Ernie

Peggy no I have not forgotten seeads I am either full speed ahead or a procastanater ha you hit the slow mode soon promise lol

We had our first light frost already too, but it didn't do a lot of damage. I still have to drag in some things for winter, except that bloody hibiscus that I've nursed through three winters, last year two blooms, this year three or four, maybe I'll just leave the ungrateful wretch out on the deck and let it freeze itself to death. Anybody near southeastern Wisconsin want the blasted thing? The first year it bloomed all summer long, the second year I cut it way back and stored it in a dark corner with just an occasional sprinkle to keep it from total dehydration. Second winter I brought it in, didn't prune it at all, and put it in the dinette where it gets sun at least half the day and watered it , Same thing last winter, so neither method did any good. Maybe it should go live in some nice hot climate instead of here. I need to go pick all my green tomatos, but I'm going to leave them out as long as I can and maybe run for a tarp if they predict a heavy frost. We have lots of clean up to do, and it looks like I'm elected since hubby is not available next weekend, and then he has to start his new garage. He did clean ceiling fans today so I'm not going to be grumpy about the garden! Well, not REAL grumpy.
