imway2dumb,my apologies.Perhaps I should have used a different word, but the meaning which I had tried to infer was that of a varied discourse."Discussion" would have been a much better choice as you have have indicated, since the word does by definition include an exchange of both the pro and con aspects of a subject.Hope I haven't assaulted anyone's feelings with my careless use of words.Thank you for your comment.
By-passing Member to Member mail?
I like the new way... my personal email is filled with other emails already, and I would hate to miss an email from a DGer, because I over-looked it.
I do NOT side with putting things back the way they were, and I respect Dave, and what he does... Ive seen on a couple threads, where someone has complained about the mail system. Just a suggestion, I dont know how much work is involved, but maybe an email exchange, like the address exchange? Or maybe the ones who dont like the new system, can just ONCE PM everyone they want to be in contact with (if its 5 people, or the whole list of subscribers) and include their own email address?
I really dont know how you handle everything Dave. Its a good thing you have the attitude you do... lol my answer would be "Deal with it or dont".
My feelings have not been assualted. I rather enjoy spirited discussions. Hope that "discussion" tomorrow night gets unreasonable and out of control! LOL
John
I'll cast my vote for the new email system. It's great!
Jean
I would like the option to choose. There are some advantages to the new system, even though I'm not deeply concerned about privacy. However, to me, the big disadvantage, is not being able to sort received emails into separate folders. Trades, coop, etc. I have to either hunt through the entire mail pages to reference one item, or try to sort.
Plus, now I have to try to remember WHERE someone emailed me, was it DG, or home?
The new system....Jo
I nearly missed a time urgent message from a co-op because of not being aware of this new system. I get PDB newsletter, (Who knew we had 2 different newsletters?) and go straight to forums. when i just log on. I just bumped into the "Home page" and saw the e-mail. I have sent and received several in house e-mails since. About once a week now I go to almost every nook and crany of DG to see what Dave is up to next. Change is often hard to digest, but we must go with the flow. I Love you Dave and Terry for doing such a wonderful job of having this endless source of information at my finger tips. AWESOME! How about Thread spell check and draft save?
I think 99 percent of the members like the new system or are neutral about it. I personally love it, and like other members here, I appreciate not having messages in my Inbox, and I think that is one of the advantages of this new system. For those who like having messages in their Inbox and who like being able to send email to other people's Inbox, then they can still do so after, as Terry said, agreeing with the correspondent to exchange email addresses.
With any change, there will always be those who cannot adapt, who will not adapt, and who will complain just for the sake of complaining. There is a really silly book which became very popular on just this subject called "Who Moved My Cheese?"
Please don't change the system back to the old one based on a few rather loud complaints.
Edited to fix spelling.

I did not complain, and if indeed it was precieved as complaining, it certainly wasn't for the shear sake of complaining. And where are these "rather loud complaints: you speak of?
What do you base your 99% approval on? Did I miss some major large scale polling of the thousands of members?
I am adapting to the new system....that was NEVER the issue. If you read the title of this thread, you will see what my one and only question was wheather or not the old system was still an option.
My vote is for the new system. I don't worry about viruses like I once did when I got messages from folks I didn't know at my email address. I hope we keep the new system.
Marc, my comments weren't directed to you and they weren't about you exclusively. They were directed to Dave and about all the people who publicly asked for the old system back and who complained about the new system on three separate threads, one of which has been deleted. My percentage came from simple mathematics: the number of people complaining about the new system divided by how many members there are. I'm glad you are adapting to the new system.
Edited to fix spelling.

Okay....sorry for being rather touchy about this. I have been made to feel like some aweful person for questioning Dave's changes................
Again I am sorry to have snapped at you :)
It's no problem, Marc. I understand completely and can empathize with you. I started the thread which was deleted and felt personally attacked myself. All is well and no need to apologize:-)
Thank you Clare :-) Sorry for your attacks....missed that thread (and I'm glad.............)
Hugs:-)
Challenging authority is always fun. :-)
Better late than never.....I like the new system best. I do think an opt-in to "notify me of new DG mail" would be cool, but probably cumbersome and I'm here every day (even if I do miss cking the DG forum). *grin*
After using the DG mail for a couple of weeks I can honestly say that I'm enjoying it...now. :-)
Since I do spend quite a bit of time here, I don't miss messages sent to me like I would if they got caught in my "possible spam" folder. And, so far, I've not had any trouble getting people to give me their personal email addresses in case I need to contact them in a hurry.
The option for accepting personal emails is still a good one, however. And it's one I personally would take advantage of.

REF: Imzadi mentioned/asked, in her post on 9.28.04 - " only paid members can see their email?? "
... If the question was addressed prior, and I've inadvertently missed it - then, please accept my sincere apologies ...
It's been my experience .. that it is not only paid members that enjoy the benefits.
The private email is for 'member-to-member' contact - whether they are registered members or paid subscriber members .. for sending and/or receiving the private emails ...

Ugh.........I hate to post this...............I'm sure I'll have all of the hairy eyebrows towards me now but........................
I don't like the new way! I'm sorry!
Lately, I pop in once maybe twice a day and that means e-mails are perhaps hours old and I get that alarmed feeling when I have not read an e-mail that was sent to me when? Yesterday? Last night? This morning?
Dave, please no offense to you , I KNOW you are doing what is best for the community. I think the community has said they like this way better.
Sue
