I accumulate stones, seashells, and postcards - things that can be kept in boxes, safe from earthquakes and where they don't have to be dusted. I have about 15 miniature California missions. DH was giving me a couple every year but they have gotten hard to find now. They are out on display at home, but fastened down with earthquake putty. If I didn't live in earthquake country and had the space for a china closet, I would collect ceramic teapots and American Indian pottery. (No, not everyone in CA is so obsessive about protecting their belongings from earthquakes. I just like to think that I have more foresight than most people.)
