OK, we've got the Angel Quilt done. We need some guidance from the Admin. on how to show it off to the population. Maybe Trish has some suggestions.
We are going to let it travel to a few Roundups and later this Fall, have a silent auction with the proceeds going to the Angel Fund.
We need some input on how best to handle the posting of the quilt and how the auction should work. When it makes it's rounds...do you want it sent to DG Headquarters with enough postage to mail it out to the winner?
That way Dave and Trish could see it in person too.
Just wanting a little guidance on how to proceed....we hadn't really thought about how to handle this part...we just wanted to make the quilt....hee...hee...
Now that the DG Angel Quilt is done....
What a great job. It's beautiful. I think you should send it to me for safe keeping. lol
That's beautiful!
That should bring in at least five or ten dollars (c:
(just kidding, I'm sure it will go for several hundred dollars).
I will bid, but I know it will be way out of my price range. Bummer.
Thanks,
Mike
Why not do a lottery? Sell tix, offsite prolly is best but then everyone who participates has a chance.
I love the idea of a raffle type thing. I just don't know how we do that...a raffle would give everyone a chance...just thinking out loud here.
Been toying with that idea myself...but don't know how we'd impliment it. I'm sure there's a way to do it...and everyone would have a chance.
I know our Boy Scouts raffle off things for charity...and as long as it's not to make a profit from the proceeds...it's legal.
Its just like a co-op doing a raffle, no?
That's really beautiful Melody!
About the raffle - someone would have to be in charge of collecting the money & mailing out the tickets. You can get the double tickets at one of the office supply stores. Sell 1 ticket for say$1.00 or 3 for $2 & people send their check to that person & they in turn send 1 of the 2 part tickets back & put the other in a container. Then at the end, someone will draw the winning ticket & the number could be posted on DG for claiming.
(The $$ amounts could be determined - the $1 & $2 above are just examples)
Melody....After the MS RU....I am stopping off to see one of our DG'ers...3 in fact....and I could LEAVE it with Dave & Trish (since there will be no more RU's for a while).....maybe Dave can put a raffle notice in the newsletter....I do like the raffle idea...$5.00 per ticket? That's not too much since it's going to the Angel Fund. Jo
The quilt is so beautiful. I'd also like to see it raffled. We'd probably raise more money that way and everybody would have a chance to win.
My question is how many folks can actually get to see it if you raffle it off this fall? There's the KYRU and then MSRU... are there others this Fall? What about Spring RU's so more people could actually see it?
Girls, you have done a terrific job!!!! God bless you for all the love you put in this quilt. Whoever gets it finally will be very fortunate, as will be all the ones benefitted from the GAF subscriptions.
((((((((((quilt artists))))))))))
I miss the old logo, too. Does anybody else miss those lovely flowers? At least there is a permanent display of them on that gorgeous quilt.
So, ya'll think a raffle would raise more money than an auction? Hmmmmm, never thought about that. Either way, I want to win. :) Whoever oversees the raffle is going to have a HUGE job.
I think it's a beautiful quilt and I love the idea of mailing it out from here because that means I get to see it in real-life! :-)
Mel I'll support whatever you want to do as to how to figure out how to sell it. I can program a little system to do it, if that's needed, too. Just let me know what you decide!
dave
I like the raffle idea - does usually bring in more money. And gives lots more people a chance to win - me included! :) $5. each or 11 for $50.
That is stunning. I agree that you will make more money through a raffle. I'm in line to buy my tickets :-)
I would love a chance to buy some tickets for that gorgeous quilt!
the quilt is beautiful!!!!! i would like to buy a raffle ticket for it.
That's quite a work of art! I'm sure the effort and compassion that went into it, from the designing of it right on up to the hand-sewing/stitching that everyone contributed has volumes of feelings in it.
I'd bid or raffle on it in a heart beat! (Not sure I could keep it though! I'd feel the need to do something wonderful w/it!)
(By the way Mel...did ya'll sew a penny into one of the seam edges?)
mel very nice Girlie!!!! can we auction it here on the site Dave!?!
how cool!
I'd definitely buy raffle tickets. Not sure I could afford to bid too high on it though and I'm thinking that others may be in the same boat; therefore it may not get bid up as high as it should. I think more money would be taken in by selling $5 raffle tickets than by auctioning it off.
Lets say that if the quilt sold at auction for $200 minimum, that would only be equivalent to 40 5$ raffle tickets. I think we can sell way more than 40 raffle tickets, then everyone would have a chance at getting it also.
Just my 2 cents worth.
I know we couldn't afford the auction price of such a fine piece, even if it went for well below its worth -- We'd get raffle tickets, though! Congratulations on all who contributed to that work of art - it is gorgeous, crafted with both love and skill.
I'm for the raffle too. As above 1 for $5, but perhaps 6 for $25 & 12 for $50. I think it would deffinately bring more money by selling raffle tickets for it. I sold raffle tickets on a quilt I made for $$ for an org. that I belong to, & I raised $300 for the ord.
I think the raffle would make the most money too. Just look at all the people that have posted here that would buy them. I am sure that would make more than most people could or would be able to bid on it if it where auctioned off. It's a beautiful piece of work and I would like to see it make close to, or more than what it's value is. Not that you can really put a value on all the hardwork and love that went into making it. I know whatever you decide I will be in line to buy tickets or to bid.
The thing about a Raffle is that it gives EVERYONE a chance, not just the people with the deepest pockets.
I am all for the raffle too and I think Darius is right about that.
Darius that was my point. More people could afford a raffle so it would make more money in the long run.
OK...Let's get on with the raffle...the quicker we start the quicker I can win it!! Jo
No, Jo, just go on munching on chocolate cause I am gonna win!
Raffle sounding real good. Most people will buy more than one ticket. It is a beautiful piece of Art. Where's the line to buy my tickets?
A raffle sounds good to me.
I'm more than willing to set up a raffle type system here at DG for this purpose. Mel; just let me know what you want to do and I'll make it happen!
dave
Hey...Dave is the Master of "making things happen"!! Jo
Dave's the greatest!!!
Whoever handles the raffle, check your state laws. I donated a cruise to a school once for a raffle, and they got in trouble because a school isn't a registered charity and the state looked at it as gambling! I kept telling them, "It's a SCHOOL, people!" But there were steps to handle it properly, and the PTA hadn't jumped through the correct hoops.
I want to buy tickets too!
Thanks for the info Terre_
That's the one concern I have....I want to make sure it's legal before we start selling tickets. As long as it is, then I feel that 5.00 per chance...maybe 5 for 20.00 and 12 for 50.00 would be fair.
How would the program work Dave? Would you enter the info as the money was sent to you?
I'm ready to get this show on the road as soon as we get the set-up and the leagl ok.
Here in North Dakota all we need is a raffle permit from the county, and I think it's like $10. I realize this may vary from state to state though. If Dave is going to handle this from his end, maybe a call to the County Auditor's Office would answer any questions about what's needed on his end to make it legitimate and legal.
MY 2 cents!! I think a raffle would be a wonderful Idea. And $5 isn't to much. It is going for a very good cause. Were would you put the info at so everybody could follow it? And its mine, mine mine!! hehehe Binky:))))))))
You know, Joan, now that you mention it, I think it was a permit that they were missing!
