TY Gumlla and cbrandenburg!
LOL Donna! It puts a whole new meaning to "split personality"....
Busybee, your "Twilight Dance" are very pretty...they seem to be doing the opposite of mine...lol.
Laurrie, I love your Chocolate Silks.....that color is fantastic.
Gourd, I love the Akatsuki no Tiuyu.
Sylvia, the buds fall off because of the heat....some varieties of MG's are worse at it than others.
Anybody using Exel to do their journals?
Beautiful, Delicate Morning Glorys Cont. #4
Arlene, you have some beautiful blooms!!
Sandy, could it be "Heian Akathuki"?
Twin those are all really nice, but that first light blue one must be getting a lot of attention, its gorgeous!
Seedsower whatever it is its gorgeous!
Moon its so good to have you back!!!!!
So what's the name, Laurie?
Arlene, Someone told me it looks like "cornell" but I don't think that it quite matches it. I am temporarily calling it "berry ice" until a positive id can be made for certain.
Busybee, lovely blooms ya got there!!
~Laurrie
Busybee,
The fringed MG seeds you sent me last year are planted at the CA house and doing great!
Thank you again for sharing.
a
You are very welcome Arlene.
Oh My, now I am so disappointed. I was one of those that paid the hefty price for what I thought was going to be 'blue silk' morning glory seeds from. 24Gordon24. I grew the 'Blue Silk' a few years ago but it didn't make seeds for me. Does anyone have a couple they could spare.
Patricia
Yall are killin me!!! They all look SO pretty!!! Congratulations on all your work on these beauties!
Moonlighting and I have been waiting seems like forever for this one to bloom and finlly we present....... ta da " Hakuou White Chinese Phoenix" this one is pure white whitout a hint of anyother color anywhere on it. The largest flower in this group is about 4 and a half inches wide and heavy. Very pretty ......... I have two pictures to post of it so give me a minute to get them both up....
:o)
Dee
I just want to thank everyone for the pictures! I have really enjuyed checking out all your beauties!!
Bonnie
I didn't grow out much of the new ones; appreciate seeing what it looked like so I am glad to see this. next year I will know where to plant those. Thank You!
This is probably one of my last ones for the season.. I think it is Blue Star, most of the flowers are up high in a dead tree.. Thank god this one was low enough to take a photo.
Only have four more that have not bloomed, Cameo Elegance, Andersoni, Vickie Harding, and a moonvine. So just waiting for the others to form pods. Some of these pods are sure taking a long time to dry. Hattie Bell's pods are huge and no sign of drying yet.
Yep, blue star it is! Very pretty.
I think I finally figured out why I love this morning glory so much.
It reminds me of Flying a Kite. When I was a kid I had kites that were sorta the shape of the Blue Star (and they were paper) and for some reason the Spokes of the Blue Star stand out the best for me as the Kite staves........so that is a memory.......the Blue Star is my Kite of Childhood and a much loved Morning Glory of today........LOL
Now isn't that the sillest thing....to suddenly remember something like that from sooo long ago .....LOL
:o)
Dee
They are all very pretty!
Wow Sandy, look how big your "muntant" is! It is definately different, but beautiful! The "Kaori" is pretty too!
Seedsower,
Yes that IS Kaori
seedsower, those are beautiful.
LOL golgi! How in the heck did you do that? It looks GREAT!
Gorgeous!!!! hmmmmmmm might have to bring some of my babies in soon too, we are getting some lower temps this week!
moonlighting,I just cut pieces off and stick them in water.Last year I had morning glories booming in December!
golgi, I absolutely love your set-up....how very clever! BTW, do the cuttings ever root for you?
no,I've never had any root ,but I always hold on to that shred of hope!
Just want to let everyone know that I have had one lousy year here with MGs seeding. I really think that all the Parks seeds have an inhibitor in them. Nada as far as seeds on any of them. The JPs, well, the buds look like they have been eaten by a bug or something, and the few pods that did form, rotted. I just do not know what to say. The only ones that produced seeds and not a whole lot are Hattie Bell and a large pink. A few other more common ones that I had also did well, like the Kniolas, Star of Yelta, Grandpa Otts, and Milky Way.
It must be a trait of the Japanese varieties that have to have the right growing conditions. Obviously, I don't have those conditions. I had hoped to share and trade some with everyone. Still have some vines with lots of buds, but they just rot and fall off.
Next year, what I do have left, will be sowed alot earlier than last year.
How did everyone else do?
Which were your best seeders?
Hey Gourd, I need some Hattie Bells. and I can trade you for' um.........
As for the rest I feel the same way. The season just was not what it should have been for MG's this year. I have a friend that growes lots of MG's and she also said this has not been a good year and to be glad that I didn't plant all my seed
I have heard many of you say the same thing and I can see in your photos the blooms were not what they should have been and we should have gotten more blooms.
I know next year I will start more of my Japanese MG's earlier, I have a lot that I will grow out next year. The heat is what hurts me more than the fear of frost and we get that right in the middle of our growing season. So "IF" I can have most of my seed harvested by the first of July and then start another round of MG's by mid July I could get a second or third crop if I can work it just right. And that is my aim for next year and probably the only way I will be able to grow out that many Varities.
I know seed production was down for most of us. I had a lot of the same experiences that Gourd did as far as the seeds starting to form in the pods and then rot or begin to sprout in the pod. I don't know what we can do about that because if the conditions are right they will rot or sprout.
I have started to spray a fungicide on my MG's and it did seem to help so I will try that next year and I will fertilize a bit more and see what difference that makes....
We had lots of rain this year as we do most years so that has alot to do with insects and fungus and such as that. I will just have to try and manage better in the future.
So this is what I think about the year and some of the changes I will make as well as a few more. I know I will grow all my MG's in Pots and none in the ground next year.
But all in all I am generally pleased and I have learned alot with alot more to go......LOL
:o)
