Getting rid of moss

I have a green/grey moss on my maples, from the trunk base to about 5 ft, any suggestions on getting rid of it? The trees are about 25 yrs old, so there is lots of shade but lots of early and late sun too. Thanks in advance.

Could you post a pic?
Is it moss or lichens?
Have you had an abnormal amount of rain and humidity this year?
Ever seen any of it before?
How are the trees doing? Look healthy and green leaves, or showing age & stress?
