FL Panhandle DG's

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Lisa, been here for your storms a few times haven't we??
Pati do you know who's next in line to feel the storm, what DGers are in south Florida? Anyone that's following the thread?
Hurricanes are girls...Some just have boy names!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

A boy named Sue and a girl named Charley

Watching with you Floridian

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Don't know many following this thread... surely we have more DG family in Harm's Way.
BuriedTreasures, Sebring
Scarlete, Tampa
Amaryllisgal, ?
and of course, Weeds and Ginger, probably safe.
Have no idea who else...

Yeah, hurricanes must be female... Hell hath no fury like a woman... LOL

Stacey, I don't know who may be next in line; the only projected path I have seen was much earlier and to go up thru Atlanta and on towards mid-SC/NC and then on up the east coast. Myself, I wouldn't bet $$ on that path.

Crossville, TN

Do any of you know what is scheduled for Ozello/Citrus County. I used to live in Homosassa Springs...and my Sister in Law lives right on the water of St. Martin's River...usually when a storm blows from West to East they get flooded BADLY. During the No-Name Storm Ozello was isolated due to the one road only to the main road. I lived in Lakeland at that time.

I am keeping all of you in my heart and Prayers...Keep safe....AND lets have that "round up" the week end after the KY RU...I'll be in the Citrus/Tampa area then. LOL Jo

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

LOL , Jo!
The round ups should be re-named to "Where's roadrunner" !!
Hotels and campsites will start to get the grins big time when they see you coming!!

I am watching all of this too and I wish everyone over there safety.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

They just said 6.5 million people will be affected by 'Charlie'... my, my, that's a BIG number. Y'ALL take Care!

National Weather (11 pm) encouraging evacuation, no projected paths shown except general FL west coast and it must have been upgraded to a Cat3. Guess I missed that earlier.

Nite, all. Keeping you in my heart.

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

Well we sure picked a great time to visit the ole winter place in the summer what with Charley stopping by.

RR, Citrus county is under a hurricane watch as of right now. The hurricane warnings are from Bayport south...could change as the storm gets closer. Hernando county (thats us) has a mandatory evacuation for everyone west of rte US 19 and all mobile homes. no one is sure yet where this storm is heading and how powerful it will be. shelters are open and hopefully this will be an interesting adventure...and nothing more!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

I know crimsontavo is in Fountain, Ginger_H have you talked to her? Are her and her Mum ok?

DH came to pick me up at work and asked if I knew what was happening in Florida.....didn't like what he saw on t.v. Good luck, take care, keep dry and be safe down there!!!

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Just watched the local news. All schools here closed and tropical storm watch all the way up the east coast. Next update is at 2 AM. My son just flew into West Palm Beach so the airport is still open. Many others closed. Trains between NY amd Miami are cancelled. The outer bands are already impacting Keys. Will be interesting to see if it increases in intensity when it comes off of Cuba. They are talking about a Cat 3. Excuse me if I ramble a bit...grand daughters in the Keys, daughter in Tampa area with horses, chickens and 5 new just planted Lychee trees, cousins in Fort Myers (possible landfall there) that I HOPE have evacuated, not answering phone. I'll be up for the 2AM update. It's going to ne a loooong nite! Wish I had one of those Margaritas, BT!!!!!
Pati

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

How will your area be affected Pati?

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

We will have VEERY heavy rains, winds possibly up to 74 MPH. I hope that's as bad as it gets...but you never know with these storms. Waiting for the 2AM update.
Pati

Taking a nap until 2AM update. Take care, stay safe

Are all your plants/pots/flyable objects in?

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I have relatives in Tampa, LuLu, High Springs, Alachua, and Perry....hope they are all okay, as well as everyone else. I also have a friend in Key West, I wonder if he evacuated? I am watching the weather, and holding my breath...I grew up in Pensacola so I have seen what hurricanes can do, and isn't it funny how pretty it can be right before one hits? Especially when you are in the 'eye'
I will be thinking good thoughts for everyone...I haven't tried to call anyone in Florida because who wants to be on the phone with this going on?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Watching this thread -- praying for you all.

Tallahassee, FL(Zone 8b)

Right now, based on the weather satellite pics, it looks like this sucker's gonna come straight up the west coast of FL, Keys to the GA line. But who knows?? You guys in South FL & SE FL okay???

Homosassa, FL(Zone 9a)

ok...am trying real hard to be positive about this hurricane...

Today being Friday the 13th, and, coincidentally enough, this month is our 13th year in our home (a mobile home, no less) here in Homosassa, Citrus County (possibly right in the path of our dear friend Charlie), some folks would probably see this as a dire forecast.

However, 13 is NOT a 'bad luck' number...after all, my birthday is the 13th. My late mother-in-law's b'day was the 13th...and we ARE going to make it through this 13th...

I'm just hoping our mobile home doesn't become truly 'mobile'...

Geez....and I just discovered really beautiful trumpet vine flowers in one of my palms the other day...been waiting almost 4 years for them...

Prayers, best wishes & lots of positive energy going out to all my fellow DGers in Charlie's path.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I have an aunt and cousins in Tampa, one being in the flood zone, they will go to relatives house there in Tampa, not leaving the area.
Beth, BT, Floridian, Pati, Kikisdad and all others in Charleys path, please check in when you can.....I am hoping it does not strengthen any more after passing Cuba.....it is big enough already. If it gets to a 4, everybody RUN!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Hey All,

I'm okay down here. We have managed to slip by unnoticed. We are having tornado watches until 5:00 today.

For me, as the barometric pressure goes down, I can drop off to sleep at the drop of a hat. I had the best night of sleep last night since Aug 3.

I finished painting the exterior of a house yesterday down the road from here. That customer lives in Sebring so I expect they will be busy getting ready for this. I was going to play hooky yesterday and finish today. Good thing I thought better of it, today is not a painting day.

Things are fine here. I will be thinking of yall west of here and further upstate and pray for your safety.

:^)

Homosassa, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Weeds, Molly...

Am trying REALLY, REALLY hard to keep a positive outlook about this thing...

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Molly, what are they saying for your area?

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Good Morning!

Pati, have you heard from your family in Key West? I hope you got some sleep. Looks like they've seen the worst of it now. Now WE have another 10 -12 hours of waiting. I think it will be a loooong day!

Right now all is pretty still, even the mosquitoes are hiding. Someone asked where the animals go? Looks like they hunker down to ride out the storm too. We've had such a horrid time with mosquitoes that walking through the yard has been a nightmare of bites or a shower of Deep Woods Off, last night and today there are mostly none.

Right now some of the inland counties are calling for low land and trailer park evacuations. They are saying there could be billions of dollars of damage. Most every Florida county has mobilized their emergency crews.

Kikisdad, Bad timing. LOL Are you east of US19? How long will you be here? Maybe we'll get a chance to meet!

Watching the news coverage makes that little knot of anxiety clench a bit more. I think I'll go take some pictures! Get some done before we lose electric. They're talking about downing some of the electric grids. They are shutting off sewer and water to the islands this morning and buried electric cable grids will shut down before the storm surge hits...turn them off before the water shorts them out.

Here's a picture taken at 7:45a looking SSW. It looks like a normal rainy season day...so far!

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

All is good here, getting a wee bit overcast, but nothing major.. *calm* er, before the storm.

Darius, I'm no where near a flood zone, and that's what most of the evacs are for, I think, and for mobile homes. I have a nice sturdy brick house-a-magig, so we're good. Expect the power to be off for a while, but have provisions for that. And thank *you* and everyone else for your prayers and concerns. My first hurricane except for the one that blew through NC and got all the way over to us in Greensboro.. that was several years ago though.. Fran, I think it was.

I do have my camera battery charged, disk is clear, and am looking forward to taking some OMG pics. :D

We're good here, a little anxious.

If the power goes out, er, I'll see you in the morning, or maybe Sunday? heh!

my comedic hurricane path pic..

It eases the tension around here. (:

AAAAAAAAAAAND Gary just went to Home Depot, I worry more about his safety there with everyone else going insane right now more than the storm! LOL The grocery stores were insane!

Good morning to all from the other side of the state (east). We have three warnings posted here this AM...tropical storm warning...flood warning...tornado watch. For those of you not too familiar with hurricanes, the right front section is the worst and we refer to it as the "dirty side". My family lived in Miami through Hurricane Andrew . My daughter lost her entire house and I lost my roof, so we tend to take 'Canes pretty seriously, BUT....we know with preparation it's possible to come through it with just a loss of a few material things. My main concern this mornining is my DD that lives in Bartow, thirty miles east of Tampa. She has children, horses, dogs, cats and chickens to provide shelter for. She's also the one who lost her house during hurricane Andrew, so she takes it VERY seriously.

Keeping everyone in the Charlie's path in our prayers.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Just watched the news and saw the mass evacuation of those living in low lying areas. Y'all are in my prayers!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

I emailed Crims Mum, and asked her to post here if she didnt want to email me back. Hope she doing ok. Everyone is in my prayers for safety and minimum losses. It will be over before you know it and hopefuly someting will happen to keep it from being so dangerous. (crossing fingers too)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Jen could you make another map with the locations of the Florida DG'ers marked?

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Will this help?

http://www.sitesatlas.com/Maps/Maps/FL1.htm

I tried to make a map but it would have been a huge download. I think you can click on that map or something and make it bigger..

I'll work on something else... if I have time. (:

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Most of these are approximate. Everyone is in red except for Floridian and I because I couldn't change the color after that. :/

Here's the link to that map that lets you zoom into places.. http://www.johnnyroadtrip.com/cities/maps/map_florida.htm

Hope that helps a bit. If I forgot someone, let me know, I think I got everyone on this forum...

Thank you very, very much Scarlete!! I have to go to work now (but I'll keep taking peeks) so this will make it much easier to keep track of where everyone is.

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

A bit closer on the Tampa area.. mmm, BethG_58 is still approximate.. but she's not too far north of Spring Hill.

NP! Looks like you and I are the only ones here.. (;

It's still quiet here, should come up on us in about an hour or so. eeeeeeee!

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Cool!!!! Thanks a heap. Now I can put away the huge road atlas. Wasn't doing me much good anyway, TomKitty was napping on it and it's hard to move a 25 pound sleeping cat!!!

Jen, you are doing good to let us know where people are located. Beth looks like the one closest to the coast? Hope she is on high ground.

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

She probably got the heck out of dodge! Probably mandatory too.. or at least I hope..
