Hi George,
Picture them like an octopus. Hold them by the head and dig the hole so the top of the head is about an inch and a half below the soil line with the "tentacles" hanging down.
Give them a good watering, and provid as much heat as possible, and you're off and running. If you have other questions on them, please feel free to email me.

candy cane curcuma
Hi Chris, it was great meeting you & picking up my plants last week. Hope to do business with you again soon. Judy Showers
Well Chris, All my plants in the ground. I will post pics as they grow. This is a great time of year for any garden lover. I like the planing and planting process at least equally as I love seeing the plants in full bloom.
Thanks again, George in San Antonio
Thanks Judy and George.
I'm trying to find time to work on my own beds this year. New home with an acre of property, I have a lot of raw canvas to cover. I have big plans for it, but finding time to implement them is posing a challenge. I hope to plant a couple hundred this weekend though.
Thanks for the feedback on the WatchDog George. I really appreciate it.
Chris
the candy cane curcuma I got from Chris have broken the top of the soil now. I hope to get pics out when they start looking like ...um..well.... candy cane curcuma (lol).

Chris, I am still waiting for my order from you; the candy cane curcuma was one of the items I bought from you and have not received.
jester, 2 of the five I bought have broken ground, but i guess i'll be a while before they look anything like rylaff's pic.
Roz, that does not sound like Chris. Why dont you shoot an email that way. Buried-Treasure has always responded to my email almost immediately. Of course, I imagine that the wedding thing might be a small delay.
Chris had a big computer problem about the time I ordered. Just contact him and he will square everything away. He is a great guy and I am sure he will be as interested in getting you your plants as you are in receiving them.
Rylaff and Jester, I have always thought he was a nice guy too and also found hiim to have a great sense of humor, but I have emailed him numerous times, got two responses that he would get right on it, and still I have no results. Computer problems could well be the problem; he may not be getting my emails. Maybe if either of you get in touch with him, you could help me to contact him.
I will let him know if I can but I only have an e-mail address also.
hey guys these are growing well but ? to know should they be in full Sun or Shade or what???
I bought five and was happy that all have come up. Mine are planted in mostly shade and one of the five has the beginnings of a bloom. I'll post pix later
My candy canes get sun most of the day. Shade in the late afternoon and really seem to love it there. They have come back this year, and are looking good but no blooms yet.
I have just received a couple candy canes in the mail. Is it too late to plant them out?
Not too late but I dont know if you will get blooms. Be interesting to try. Mine dont emerge until the ground gets pretty warm, about June. They usually bloom for me about August.
I love seeing this one on top of the forum. The picture is so great.
I went to a lecture on gingers last week. Speaker was director of tropicals for Houston's Mercer Arboretum. She said candy cane curcuma needs to be in full sun. certainly would explain why mine have been slow to grow as I have them in mostly shade. She said the best time to transplant is in the spring when they are first shooting up. I will definitely be moving these babies next spring.
Mine have a nice flower on them! Very pretty!
jester, where did you end up planting yours?
left them in a pot. Gets early morning full sun but shade after 10 am. Seems to be doing fine.
I just saw that candy cane at the nursery the other day. It was one of those trips, where I had a specific thing to buy and had lectured myself before hand not to buy anything else. I hovered the candy cane for far too long, but did resist. I'm glad too, I went to the buried treasure ..and they're prices seem very affordable. Do they send the root? That site is going to get me into trouble! But it came in handy, because I am goiong to make a ginger trail next year, that will go along side of my greenhouse.

just realized this is the one year anniversary for this thread!
RJ, what nursery were you at? I've not seen them around in houston. When I bought from BT, it was rhizomes. I am transplanting mine to full sun next spring as they've grown kinda slow in part sun/part shade. I have 1 flower, but it was been 1.5" long for weeks!, definitely not picture worthy. I'm sure it needs more sun.
no snowballs to send your way right now ;)
never did get the spring loaded snowball venture off the groung ; - )
