Butterfly Bushes

How do you kill one. The Honeycomb Yellow to be exact. This spring I was going to dig two out and was I amazed at their roots. No way was that thing going to budge. It would of broken every spade that we have.
I wish it would winterkill.

Copper sulfate kills trees, so I bet it would work on a butterfly bush, but it will kill everything else around it too. It is the active ingredient in a lot of those tree-root-dissolvers. You can get it at the garden center or the hardware store.

Sylvi: Thanks, but they are around other plants. So I guess, I will have to keep them pruned severely untill they die a natural death.

We killed a silver maple by girdling it. It died the second year. It should work for the butterfly bush. You just take out the outer bark in a circle around the lower trunk, of course the tree had only one trunk.
