How can people be so hearltless, how can people be so...

Just another one of those things that makes you wonder. DH and I took a stroll to the end of our drive last night and when we turned to go back this poor skinny sick little kitty came running across from the tree patch, right toward us. I guess she heard our voices, and trusting humans would be a safe haven, came running. Earlier, a truck had stopped in our approach and turned around, back to town. We already have 2 cats, both were someone elses garbage, now our jewels. I hope I can nurse this one better and give to a good home.

makes you sick doesn't it. Good for you for taking them in...

echoes, yes, it's a sad commentary about people who discard pets. Fortunately there are people like us who take them in and nourish them, sometimes even giving them a good home.

I have had my Bazha cat, who just appeared on my doorstep as a kitten, for about 10 years now.

My close friend (Bud) has acquired an abandoned dog he doesn't want to keep and I don't want. His Vet has contacts with an Animal shelter in FL that is NO-KILL and if no one here wants to adopt the dog, he will go there.

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

I have given up friends because once their puppies turned into dogs, they gave them to lord knows who, and once put two of their dogs down. Perfectly healthy, happy dogs. It's disgusting.

That kitten is so lucky to have found you! Makes my day.

Don't know what I'd do if it was a dog. Fortunately nobody has dumped a dog here for years. I think this little cat will be a good one, but the shelter can't look after it if it's sick. And they are always so overcrowded. So far I know it's got cat flu and probably ear mites. I am experience with forced feeding, etc. from the cat we brought home from the shelter in 2000. So far this one is much easier. She will be real cute when her eyes and nose stop running and she puts on a little.

Oh, Echoes... she's SO cute!

Maybe she has pneumonitis? Special eye drops cure that.

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Echoes - she's got beautiful markings and is lucky to have found you. I hate that people think animals are disposable. m

I'm thinking it's calicivirus. There are several that are lumped together for Upper Respiratory Disease in cats. I have her isolated in a bedroom by herself. I think it's something that my own cats have both had, but not taking chances. Plus the ear mite thing. She is still playful.

Going to have to give her a name. Hmm?

She is so lucky to have found you! She will most likely reward you with a steady supply of love and adoration.

Echoes, Forgotto say I "almost" remember that song... can even hear more lyrics but forget who it was... Old Timers, I guess.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

This is the very reason I now have 13 cats sharing my home. Too many strays out here when I first moved here, things have slowed down some these days, thank goodness. I doubt I could afford to take care of many more.

Here I am in the house with a garden full of weeds waiting for me.. Instead I'm in here nursing a strange kitten, who will probably have to go to the vets and cost me way too much money and I'm worrying myself sick over a cat that isn't really mine. Gotta get a grip. Thanks for listening all you sympathetic DGers and for all your supportive response.

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

echoes, I know how you feel. My daughter found a kitty out in our driveway about 8 weeks ago. Poor thing wasn't old enough to even eat on his own. We had to force feed him. On July 5 of this year, he was dying from dehydration--we took him to the vet on an emergency call and he is now doing fine. Right now he (Cooper) is behind the computer desk getting into everything. lol Cooper keeps us on our toes!

Echoes she is just too cute. Thank goodness she found you. I hope she can keep you.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

She obviously adores you. Chalk one up for the good guys! Does that orange tipped tail qalify her as a calico?

No, No! she's not staying. I've named her Byebye. So's she'll get the hint. I'll keep her till she's well, and even pay for her first shots, but she can't stay. The blond tip on the tail is cute eh. She is sort of calico. Mostly dark brown, almost sable with lighter shades mixed in, sort of patchie. Around her mouth is streaks of almost white. I'm not that up on the breeds, etc. Although I have one hoity toity, the one from the shelter. We call her Blue.

And just to be fair, here's the best little cat in the whole world. We were so blessed when she found us, and we really needed her at the time.

Oh, Darius the song was from The Three Dog Night - Easy to be Hard. Don't know what made me put that one there, but I guess I am an oldie.

Echoes, thank you for rescuing that sweet kitten AND for telling the song! That little bit of it has been stuck in my head, and I couldn't remember any more than that. I hadn't read the thread until now, but saw the title earlier this evening, and it's been bugging me all night!

The kitten is a tortoiseshell, same colors as a calico, but without the white. I have one, Brianna, and she's very cuddly.

Ooh thanks Ronna, nice to know.

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh echoes, she's adorable. How can one not pick up a kitten that comes running to you for help! I can't turn a kitten, or cat for that matter, down. You did good!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

darius, what kind of dog?

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

God bless you for helping the kitty. Some people are such idiots.

I can never keep those tri-color types straight. One day I get it, by afternoon, I'm confused again. :-| "Byebye!" I gotta remember that one. New names are getting harder to come by. :)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Weeds... the abandoned dog is so ugly that it's cute! Picture a Bassett Hound... and then put the coat of a German Shepherd on it. Really a sweet dog, too.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

I'm WAY too old for shades of gray, so I think in terms of black and white. I believe God has a special seat in the Angel choir for people who rescue animals, and there is a seat in hell, close to the fire, for people who abuse and abandon them....and there is NO in between. (foaming at the mouth and grinding my teeth)

darius, when I was a little boy, my father took my sick and "ugly" dog for a ride and turned him loose. It broke my heart. Hurts to this day. But, my father was not a cruel man! He was from a different time. I thought about that poor mutt being out there all alone for a long time. Guess thats why I love ugly dogs so much. The uglier, the better. I have a formally abandoned black lab now, not ugly but, clearly he was the runt of the litter. I love him and he really loves me. My best friend.

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

yes, the older generation had a different view of things from what we have now. I remember my dad taking a litter of kittens out into the field and shooting them. It broke my heart too. But when his favorite dog got run over, he cried. Not in front of us kids though. Mom told us that he cried. He doesn't hunt or fish because he doesn't like to kill. Now try to figure that one out! It still doesn't make sense to me.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yeah, caring about animals (or not caring) IS tough. I could end up being a dotty old woman with 80 cats if I wasn't careful!

edited to add: Echoes, thenks for the song... I knew I knew it, just couldn't place it, LOL!

darius, me too. People from town (probably) are always dumping their unwanteds off near me. I can't save them all. I take most to the shelter now. They have some chance to find a home there. Not much I'm afraid. Its so sad isn't it?

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I've heard a phrase: "pets pick their owners"

you might be stuck with this cutie! hugs to you for your compassion!

Just a little update. Byebye ate on her own this AM with a little encouragement. She still looks like a little furry snot ball in the morning, but she can't be dying if she's putting it in at one end and out the other, right?

I think I have a future home for her, where I will still be able to see her.

We-e-e-e-ell,

Whats the betting that Bye Bye stays with Echoes?

Any takers

Inanda - who will have to addthis to my list of watching

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I'd bet she stays.

Broadview, SK(Zone 3a)

Just spotted this thread and hats off to you Echoes for rescuing ByeBye and your other cats.
Patischell, I really agree with you about heaven and hell.
Echoes I really dig those slippers/shoes.

Oh what a sweetie, she looks like a Patches to me.I had a cat named that once.I always say the Good Lord has a reason for everything and i think that sweet kitty was meant to be found by you.It probably would be dead if you had not taken it in.We get a lot of dump offs around here.I guess people figure we have lots of pets, what's one more.We just got a little black and white sylvester cartoon looking female kitty, about two weeks ago.My daughter found her outside her home with the neighbors dogs from down the road chasing the poor tiny thing. She was barely old enough to start eating and starving to death. Her little back bone was sticking up and all ribs. She is a little shy, but starting to warm up to us.Her little belly looks like she has swallowed a pumpkin, she has filled in nicely and is getting her health in order. She managed to get up on a table and knock some checkers off to play with. She bats them around on the wooden floors playing with another cat we have. They have a little hockey game going between cat naps. She has the longest legs,so we decided to call her.TG Checkers.TG for tall girl.lol.

Echoes,my hat is off to ya,for another fine rescue. She is surely blessed to find you.

Edited to say, what a lovely little family you have.Beautiful cats.

sorry, sometimes I just...

Well, missed that. Not sure what happened there Frankay.

But anyway, kitty ate much better today, all on her own the last couple of times, and the litter box needs changing. She now has a nice chair to curl up in, after she gets another wipe down with a warm damp cloth.

I think I have a good home for her. One that I can yank her back from if she's not happy. She won't be going till she's all better and has her first shots. sniff...

Echoes, sounds like you are getting attached already.Glad to hear she is doing better.I have a really really hard time giving a stray away.I feel as if they adopted me.It seems all the one's that showed up in the past three years are still with us.
My oldest kitty is now 14 years,he is a siamese. He's starting to show his age and getting too fat.He always takes care of the newbies though. He's their Grandpa kitty.lol.I wish i could take your kitty, she reminds me of my Patches i had years ago.
