more poor white bleeding heart...

Palatine, IL(Zone 5a)

my white bleeding heart is two years old--no blooms. My pink blooms beautifully. Is there some trick for the white? Both plants are planted in the same conditions.

Doesn't it make you crazy when this kind of thing happens!? I have had that kind of problem with other plants, and I wish I had an answer for you. My best guess would be to fertilize the one that won't bloom with something nice like compost, but I would probably avoid strong commercial fertilizers for fear of causing the wrong kind of growth for the season. Also, is it a young plant? I assume it has bloomed once as you know the color?

I only have the white, it is planted in a shady, slightly damp area and it has been blooming like crazy all summer. I haven't fertilized or anything and it's been doing fine. This is the first year I've had this plant, and it has turned out to be much better than I expected. I wish you luck with yours.

Sylvi--what's even crazier is that the two plants are 15 feet away from each other! The white has not bloomed ever, but the leaves are a brighter green than the pink plant. I will pamper the white with extra compost( good Idea) its starting to go dormant. Look how pretty the pink is--they remind me of my Grandmother. she had a plant in her yard that she & Grandpa recieved as a wedding gift (in 1938). They had moved it several times. Grandma passed away last spring--& I love to remember her out in the garden with such a lovely plant. I think its one of the special things that gardening can bring--a living, rememberance of those we love.

They sure are a nostalgic plant. I find the white ones flower more and self seed for me. My white one is still blooming a bit.
