You've seen the news. These two middle eastern groups hate each other, because they each are firm on their positions. Both groups are right in a lot of areas, and both groups are wrong in a few areas. The problem arises because they hate each other and, in their spirit of hate, cannot see to any possible resolution to their problems.
Of course, I'm not talking about the middle east, but rather the brug forum here at DG.
I'm aware of the recent problems in the past few days, particularly the group of people (I and the guilty parties know who I'm talking about) who are bumping dozens of threads in order to bury threads from other people.
This is stupid and a wretched way to act. I think ALL of you who have participated in this disgusting and hateful activity need to step back and maybe take a week offline to recollect yourselves. This forum is NOT to manipulate people, shun folks or run them onto page 3 minutes after they post.
This forum WILL be cleared up and I am watching it carefully. I have scripts in place that will be monitoring for activity that is in line with the actions I'm talking about here.
Lastly, 90% of the people who read this may not even know what I'm talking about. For you guys, just ignore this and know that, behind the scenes, this forum always has, and likely always will, have people who just can't stand the peace process and will do anything to disrupt it.
It's Israel vs. Palestine manifesting itself in a perpetual war right here on my beautiful little gardening website. It turns a beautiful garden into a stinking sewer of filth and rot.
Dave
Israel and Palestine are at it again

Very well said!
Let's keep it peaceful.
They inevitable question is WHY? Seems like it always boils down to somebody wanting something that somebody else has, even if it's just imagined power.
I believe the love of money is the root of all evil. Money, of course, doesn't always refer to dollar bills. It can easily refer to power, authority, reputation, etc. Those who love and crave those things will have a poor end.
I've spent a lot of time on the phone today. Hopefully things will straighten out soon. Still more phone calls ahead though.
dave
Good luck and peace abide with you. Remember, you are a flower child.
As usual, I am clueless......at times it pays to be a wallflower, I guess.

Dave, I'm new to DG. I thankfully dont know the situation to which you are referring. I can not understand why ANYONE would want to be hateful on a gardening website. Thank you for at least wanting to know if you have a snake in the Garden of Eden. I hope to be able to learn how to care for my brugs on this forum. I have no interest in playing nasty little games.
thank you
charlotte
Dave , I am so sorry that you have to deal with this underhanded garbage going on right in the middle of our gardens.
Shame on them :'(
Wow, I hadn't noticed any new problems....how sad :-(
What is it about Brugs that brings out the worst in some people?
i do not know how to bump them? what is it but i was wondering about a post think got it now... its greed now in the world i guess or selfishness. who knows.. i just love to look at the brug. pictures.. lovely plants... blessings, happiness all... love one another..
It seems to never end on this forum. i have been around almost from the beginning and its always something. a few months ago this very forum was shut down.
i hate to see it happen agian. this forum is helpful to alot of us that are new to brugs.
i am still learning but i know one thing::::
gardening has no religion, no hatred or anything. its a love for plants.
gardening is a love for all of us here. we wouldnt be here if it wasnt. please lets keep it that way.
this forum is for brugmansias!!!!
i am scared Dave and Terry are going to shut this forum down because everyone has been warned numerous times that politics and religion and everything that goes with it is a no no.
people GROW UP!!!!!
we are here for plants!!!!
Thank you for writing that message a dear friend of mine said that she was going off your web. let not a few rotten apples spoil it for everyone. Keep up the good work dave
Its all about that green-eyed monster.....jealousy.
I wonder if the mothers of those posters would be proud of them!!!
I've been away on vacation for a few days so apparently I missed the drama. I'm new to this forum so I didn't know about any problems in the past. Oh, well, it's to be expected, there are always a few bad apples in every barrel. Kids, if you can't play nice then please leave the playground and don't come back.
Dave. Hate to admit my ignorance, but what is the "bump" feature I see now and then ? How does 'A' bump something to affect 'B' and so forth ? May be obvious to everyone else, but my cyber-knowledge and social intercourse are more than a bit lacking.
Balvenie,,Bump is a term we use,not a feature here.
Say if you ask a question, and everyone is to busy to answer, and it gets missed, you can go to that thread and in the reply just say Bump,it will bring it back up to the top of the list so it can be seen.
In the thread where I had iris to trade, I got some folks interested but not enough, so after awhile I went to the thread and posted a reply to bump it up to the top of the threads in that forum and got more folks to take them and I'm getting rid of them all now.
Thanks Root and Spirit. That explains part of it.
Whats the other part?
Root. The aspect of naughty people.I've seen comments regarding actions of people on this forum which were less than courteous, a factor not seen on the other forums. I think that incidents of any sort are to be expected on forums as the population increases. Many of us are unable to chain our personal dragons and as a result cause pain for others, often without realizing it. Fortunately all I have seen in DG, regardless of the forum,is a very large international contingent of gardening advocates who are knowledgable, sharing, considerate and have a very strong sense of community.Guess if I've seen the problems Dave mentioned it has been ignored. My appreciation to you Dave, for creating and maintaining such a wonderful operation, and the rest of you for helping to bring a wealth of information and joy into my life.
Balvenie, the problems are only in the "Brugmansia and Friends"forum,(now a misnomer),not in any of the forums on DG.Except for the one forum Daves remains an excellent site.
Dave edits out the unwanted comments at times,to keep things civil,so sometimes there are breaks in threads.
I find that a forum is what you put into it. If you contribute a lot you get a lot out of it! If you just come to post your pics once in a blue moon and have no interest in anyone else's threads, you will get very little out of it.
If you are someone like Brugie who is always among the first to post on the threads here to share a story, a tip, a hope or just a smile, you get tons back and many friends are made and enjoyed.
I find the Dave experience is all about sharing to me. Give and take. I just love it and I just love this forum. It is one of the best!
We have so many great posters and we always have so much fun and lots of laughs. Once in great while there is a clash but that does not negate what a great forum this is. It is the busiest forum on Dave's for a reason, well actually for many reasons. And their names are are all listed as you read down the threads on each page of the Brugmansia and FRIENDS Forum!! And they are all great reasons And all good people!!
I just love it here and I am so fond of all of you!!
WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"
I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Oh yeah
I'm a newbie to DG and the brug forum; however, I've been online since the early 90s and I've participated in dozens of subscription lists and, speaking for myself only, I don't quite understand why the 'bump' option exists, if it should not be used. Those 'in the know', among 'the powers that be' surely know what is going on, but many of us don't have a clue and don't know exactly what the deal is, and likely would never have realized there was a problem if not for this thread. Is the message that we should not use the 'bump' option?? We are big boys and girls and will follow the rules, just tell us what they are. Either it was over my head, or I totally missed 'the problem'. I read one thread that was mildly tense, but I have the delete option and, like all of us, I do not have to read or participate in a thread unless by choice. I really enjoy this forum and several other DG forums and I have gained considerable knowledge and I appreciate the mentors (and newbies, if you please) that are willing to share their skills. The problem might be that some cliques are in the know and some aren't, like the newbies - we don't know what the bleep the problem might be. I dunno. I do know that every person I've 'met' here has been great and helpful and I cannot imagine what could be going on that would cause such a stir. BTW, I'm a dog lady, a dog breeder - did you see Best in Show??? It was funny, and pretty much the truth about dog people, we are weird and we know it and it could have been 'worse'. I'm beginning to think that this forum is worthy of a movie too: Best in Burgsmania Show!!
Sherrylike, the bump option serves a good purpose. You use it to bring a thread back to the top when this is needed. The problem is with a small group that sometimes use "bump" to deliberately bury a persons post. This is what Dave was referring to.
Kell, don't you think it possible that those people who only post occasional pictures do so because of the percieved unfriendliness?I can only speak for myself, but I know I used to post more in the past. Now,I do most of my posting on BGI.Much friendlier place.
Oh Goodness, I've been so busy with family in town over the past two weeks that I've hardly had a chance to check in. I'm so sorry to hear that there are again problems here. I have to agree with Kell: You definitely get back what you put in, and then some. I've learned so much in this forum over the past year, that I'd surely hate to see it go, but I agree that it needs to get back to "friends"...Gretchen
I don't see a reason for the problem. I look forward to every new seedling. I just don't have room for them all and I'm not yet ready to rent acreage. I've learned so much here and I want to be friends with everybody, not join a 'camp.' edited due to typos caused by wine.

kell said: "If you just come to post your pics once in a blue moon and have no interest in anyone else's threads, you will get very little out of it. "
Anyone should be able to post a photo at whatever intervals one wishes, and hopefully receive some positive feedback from the brug "friends" who gather here-- in other words, be made to feel welcome, not shunned; and in any case, not find one's photo immediately relegated to the back pages by way of "bump".
There is always an undercurrent on this one forum which may or may not escape the notice of people who are new here or are unaware of past history. It does not make it a pleasant place to be. The hatefullness underlying many innocent appearing posts does indeed surface as a clash at times, often just as a person feels it might be safe to post here.
We are bound to see a few disagreements now and again, just so they don't get out of hand, as they have in the past.
Like I said before, lets keep it peaceful, please.
I love plants and will put up with almost anything to keep on learning all I can about them. This is a good place to be.
Speaking of "Blue Moons", I think tonight is the first one in over 2 years. This is a REAL 'Blue Moon.'
Remember Frank Sinatra
in
Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the Moon it turned to gold
Blue Moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked the Moon had turned to gold
Blue moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
We are enjoying the Blue Moon, Digital cameras are a ........
Nothing! It is a big round orange ball, beautiful. Gee, I said that and it wasn't even a plant!
I read this thread from Dave when he posted it and had no problem understanding his words. He specifically explained that he was speaking to two groups "unnamed" as to what he pointed out as unexceptable behavior on his Forum.
He also pointed out that those who did not understand his words were just to ignore them as they did not concern them.
Those words were quite specific and loud and clear....
However, I now see this thread taking a turn from what it's stated purpose. Instead of the "unnamed" posters taking heed, I see posts trying to "explain" what happened to posters who did not see anything nor quite understood to what Dave was referring. Without speaking for Dave, I guarrantee this thread was not meant for a political Forum for posters to use as their sounding board. This will only end up in another disagreement which isn't what DG is about.
The shame is that this is happening on the weekend with Dave not around and would hate for this to turn ugly to the point of someone contacting Dave and ruining his weekend.
On the whole, whatever issue Dave was reffering to was relegated to the "ones in the know" and had passed from the front page and back to brugs.
So when I see some come on this thread denigrating DG and promoting another website as a much friendlier place to be, I'm not confused on the intent.
All I'll say is that continuing this thread in "debate" mode will do nothing but make a mountain out of a molehill. It wasn't affecting most of us here and didn't stop our brug talk.
So let's get back to brugs and let Dave handle his website as he sees fit. Please let it rest for the good of the whole community.
Steel. Your last sentence is right to the point and well put.Rather than belabor it here I'd like to make a comment on the Dave's Garden forum,if that would be appropriate.
Dave left this thread open, rather than locking it to new posts as he has done in the past. This is a "forum" which means it should be open to input from anyone who wishes to comment. Dave's initial posting is certainly thought-provoking, and I doubt he failed to forsee that comments would be made.
The troubles here will only cease when everyone who posts here is made to feel welcome.
Well here I thought Dave had a couple seedlings showing off.
I have never seen anyone (while I have been here) not welcomed. Of course I live in my own happy little place. One I have made for myself and am 100% confident and comfortable with. Everyone makes their own bed of roses (or brugs) and I love laying my head down each night in mine.

Re:

Amen..
"The troubles here will only cease when everyone who posts here is made to feel welcome."
Unfortunately, that sounds like an ultimatum for the other group. It is this kind of "you owe me, and give it to me, or else..." that launches these kinds of issues in the first place.
You two groups (minimally speaking, ABADS/Allegra vs. BGI) hate each other, and I don't foresee that changing in the future. I have serious doubts that your two groups could ever get along in the same forum ever again.
Dave
