Last year I got this plant for postage or trade, from either badseed or smilin32, I think.
I planted it near the front of one of my perennial beds not realizing how tall it would get. This year, in the exact same spot it looked like it was coming up again. I've kept a close eye on it and sure enough, it's the lions ear budded up and getting ready to bloom. I moved it to the back of the bed this afternoon and hope to heck I don't kill it.
I am in zone 5, Chicago land. There is no such thing as a mild winter here. This plant is supposed to be to be hardy to zone 8 and above. Has anyone else had it come back? What gives?
Leonotis aka Lions Ear
My guess is that it self-seeded...
I've been growing that for six years or better and have never had mine winter over or self seed! Waha hahahaha hahah
I was very surprised and though perhaps that I had incorrect information about the hardiness. I am happy that it came back because I love that plant. I am going to save the seeds this fall to be sure that I have it again.
Do you start them indoors or self sow?
I start mine inside. I think most others in zone 7 or cooler do the same but everyone has their own methods. :)
