Please excuse the blurry photos but I didn't want to re-take them. I got a new load of wood chips this year to mulch my flower beds with. Something unusual has been growing in the wood chips only. We have had alot of rain this year and maybe this has had something to do with this. I assume this is some type of fungus although I have never seen anything like this in the 25 years I have been gardening.
It crops up quickly and is yellowish colored as seen in the first 2 photos. Then by the next day it smooths out, turns a tan color and shrinks (in third photo). If you spray it with water from the hose a big puff of black cloud/spores? comes out of it.
Whatever it is I don't like it!
Does anybody know what this is and how I can kill it?
Help!! Freaky Fungus/photos
I had some of that growing on my mulch too, wierd stuff. Hope someone can say what it is. Mine disapeared after a while without me having to do anything.
This is not a fungus, but a Slime Mould. They are now placed in a completely separate Kingdom from Fungi. I can't get any further than that with its identity.
Thnans kennedyh! You are right! It is slime mold.
I did a google search and this is what I found:
www.ppdl.purdue.edu/ ppdl/weeklypics/Weekly_Pi...
Opps that link didn't take you to the right page. When you get there do a search for "Slime Mold" on the upper left side of the page.
No offence but I think it looks like a pile of dog vomit! ;)
LOL CR thats exactly what I thought when I first saw it in my flower bed.
Wouldn't a spray of clorox solution do it in ?
