I planted seven oakleaf hydrangea in a new bed about two months ago. They have all grown and look healthy except that in the last couple of days they all have red spots on the leaves. The spots are round and look like rust. I looked over the leaves and did not see any insects. The leaves otherwise look healthy. Not too much water and they have good drainage. They get sun until noon and then are shaded the rest of the day. Does anyone know what could be causing the red spots?
Help, please!
Can you post a photo?
I don't have a digital camera (although I think I may be getting one for my birthday in a couple of weeks) and haven't taken a picture of them. Thanks for your interest, though. If I can get a picture on here soon, I will.
Mine get rusty spots this time of year, too. Chances are it's some type of bacterial problem, but it doesn't seem to harm the plant, and each spring the new leaves appear fine. Just a guess, though - I don't find much info on any diseases that afflict H. quercifolia.
Thanks, Terry. I think you are probably right because it hasn't seemed to damage the plant (they are still growing) and the leaves look otherwise healthy.
Terrie
