I say you thatch the roof on the next house and rent it to your friends for tropical vacations. Then you build a glass room to attach the two houses............. Can we use your money for the renovations? I have more ideas. LOL
Thanks!!! Hole N Wall 2004
LOL!! It is a one bedroom with 2 baths,I can't figure that out?
Wow! Looks great Root!!! My little tropical area needs to be bigger. But then the greenhouse wouldn't be big enough :(
Let me know when you are ready to get that shade area planted with hostas. I love to "share" the addiction ;)
I sure will Jody!! I am working on getting the clawfoot bathtub from the house next door,to do a bathroom Hosta display,LOL!! That whole side bed will be Hosta and ferns, with a few Ears.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous Root! Hole N Wall looked great last year but you have surpassed last years' efforts. My garden bows to your garden as one who has achieved what it hopes to attain. :-)

LOL De!!!! You have a Baby tucked in here,I told you it would be in a good home!
Obviously the house was built for gardeners-2 baths in case you get really dirty, or one for you and one for plants. Or dirty one the first week, one the second, then clean both?? LOL
Your gardens are fabulous!! I still have some hems to send you, didn't forget. :)
LOL!! Thanks Chele,no hurry on Hems, they are Fall planters right?
Root...I think you are the most impressive man around DG! LOL I can't imagine all the work you put into all this! It just looks outstanding!!! Is there any possible way that you could run south and teach DH all your little tricks???
Thanks for Identifying the white-margined plant, Frogs. Hmmm....plectranthus, as in Swedish Ivy...very easy from cuttings...Any chance we might swap cuttings later this summer, doc? I have several things that will need cut back before frost...yellow impatiens, Caricature plant, Firespike, crossandra to name a few. Let me know if you might want to do a trade.
I don't know the name of the rex begonia, but I like it too!
Susan
Great looking tropical paradise, Root. It's beautiful.
Brinda you are making my head swell,I am just lucky, the plants look good where I poke them,LOL,impressive is Eclipses yard,I will get there someday I hope.
Toxi,I am looking for the Yellow Balsam, touch me not,I call them Impatients,is that what you have?
Beautiful Root, absolutely beautiful. Clawfoot tubs are so cool, I have one in my bathroom!! If in good shape .. they are worth $$$$!!
I have a light yellow impatiens (no name known) and a gold one ('jungle gold'). They both have odd shaped flowers. I will post pics as soon as I can.
Your yard is amazing, Root!! Now, what state do you live in,really!! Ha!!
Bonnie
Wow, Doc, you done good!
Doc, Here's a pic of the yellow impatiens. It might be one of the 'Seashell' colors, it did not have a label when I got it. The plant must have no direct sun or it will wilt, but it flowers profusely and gets huge anyway. I really like it. If you want to trade for some of your plectranthus with the white margin, just let me know when...send me an email.
Susan
Susan, balsam is a relative to what we are used to calling impatiens. It blooms up and down the stalk and when it spits it's seeds out of the same kind of seed pod as our regular impaties, they are much bigger, about the size of a radish seed, and the seed will easily go through our Iowa winters and come up the next year. Some people would call them invasive. I saw a yellow one at a nursery several years ago, but at the time I didn't know anything about balsam and I left it there. I've kicked myself several times by now.
Great pictures Susan. I have the Jungle Gold this year and I love it. It gets so huge and so loaded with bloom. I also love the seashell imps. They seem to bloom best in the fall for me. Didn't get any this year. Maybe because the Jungle Gold caught my eye first. REALLY caught my eye!!
I keep coming back to check out your deck Rooty! It is awesome. I may be borrowing some ideas from you soon. I have already started dissecting parts of the rail where the kids can't fall off and break anything. LOL
I'll check my touch me nots too. Don't know how rare yellow is, but I have seen white, coral and red here so far. I'll check my neighbors too.
LOL Root. The flowers belong to an older couple and they love them because they self seed. Some of mine came from her. Hey, I recognize those coleus! Aren't they great??
Sorry, doc, I don't have the tall balsams. I used to grow them a lot, and now the seeds are hard to find. I've never seen yellow in those, but I will be looking now, ha.
The yellow impatiens does not set seeds (anyway mine doesn't) so taking cuttings is the only way I know to overwinter it. Sorry it won't work for you. Your gardens look great!
BTW, what do you use if spider mites attack your EEs? I used some pyrethrin spray on mine and it just RUINED the leaves and I had to cut them off. Guess I better just use soap and veg oil or let the mites go...they don't do near the damage that the pyrethrin spray did. (Not even sure I had some but I usually do before summer is over.)
We will be coming through KC in early Aug to go to Colorado for vacation... will think of you and your gardens.
I have never had any problem with my Ears, just Brugs,I am fighting beetles right now.
I am not to far off 70,635 south a couple exits, but I know how it is when heading out,you will just be getting warmed up,by the time you pass through KC. Are you out by Columbia?
brugie, what is the name of the yellow/red coleus (one in the center? that is fine!
rootdoctor, your garden is fabulous! Do you grow the castor bean in full sun?
Vossner, that one is called El Brighto. I got it at Rosy Dawn Gardens. www.rosydawngardens.com
Yes Vossner,I try to get them as much sun as I can.
I have a similar variegated Swedish ivy. It over winters outside here. They get huge and root where ever they touch. It really brightens up a dark corner. I had never thought to actually put it in a bed, it is spreading over many of my potted trees and rooting in their pots as it goes along. Thanks Root for the idea, I think I will drop a few pieces in my backyard in a dark corner I have. I had hostas there but the snails devoured them.
I think mine is Plectranthus hirtellus variegata from what I have been finding.

Doc, I am in the southeast corner of MO about 50 crow miles west of Cape Girardeau, in a little town called Piedmont. We will be getting our daughter (a kindergarden teacher) in St. Louis and then going thru KC to get to Colorado. Can't wait to get to that cool air...we go hiking and take lots of pictures of mountains, streams, wildflowers, and wildlife. Thanks for the semi-invite to see your place (I guess that was inferred) but I doubt DH would slow down...have to get to Limon that first day...he won't spend the night out in western KS cowtowns anymore, ha.
Susan
I am the same way when I travel, and I was not inferring,it was an all out invite,LOL!Maybe some other time,I know if it was me,I'd be leadfootin it west to Colo also.
Hey Doc just saw the picture. They look great. I will get you hooked on coleus yet. lol
I had heard this, but checked it further. Castor Bean is extremely poisonous for animals so that's it for me. Not taking any chances with my garden helper, buttons (Cardigan Welsh Corgi)
Never seen an expired child or dog near mine,or anyone I have ever known or heard of.....
Root, this is my first year and my Castors are growing like crazy! I think they must have tripled in size in just a week. They are probably over 4' now. I love them!!!
You can always enjoy the leaves and just cut the spent flowers off before they make seeds. Castors are gorgeous plants!
Can you believe they are forecasting temps down around 54 tonight, July 26????!!! Our high yesterday was 65 degrees. My tropicals are gonna think it's October already. (Until this weekend when it gets back in the 90's...)
