Need Advice on Building a Plant Rooting Bed!

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

I need a good, cheap-preferably free-solution as to what to use to outline a plant rooting bed. Looks like I'm really getting into the plant trading business here at DG-I LOVE it! I have all the sand I need, I just need an easy soultion for outlining. I don't really want to spen any money if I can help it. I thought of using concrete block, but I don't have enough around here. Anyone have any creative suggestions? Ohhhhhhh, Horrrrrsssssehhhhhooooooe!?!

Hmm...so you just want something to hold the sand in?

You can buy rough cut lumber from a local sawmill pretty cheap. (very cheap). That will do it for a few years.

But really, how big are ya gonna need for rooting stuff? Many things can just be rooted directly in the ground (lots of shrubs especially!)

If you're gonna do many different kinds you might be better off with getting plant pots (usually they are thrown away) and putting your medium in those and inserting the cuttings (several can go in each pot).

All this also will hinge on if you are doing all this outdoors or if you have an indoor space (g-house, garage, etc).

Can you tell us more what you want to do? That'll help narrow down your choices (and the cost involved!).

I had planned just to go around the maple out in the side yard with a thick layer of sand. It seems I'm getting pretty heavy into trading, and I'd like to be able to root lots of stuff all at once. Whatever I use, I want to be able to round it. Call me weird, but I hate square boxes!

how about plastic edging that you can use to hold in mulch? you just pound it into the ground I had a couple of rolls of this but my ground to hardmIended up making paver forms out of it cut and used masking tape to make round forms.about 20 ft ina roll, not too espensive.

Well, good grief, oriole! Duh!! I HAVE some of that stuff, too. I'm suffering from progressive decline in brain usage, apparently! I think I even have enough to use around that maple. I LOVE DG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
