Canna Seeds?

What do canna seeds look like? I got some "seeds" out my my orange canna that look like poppy seeds. Are these canna seeds? Thanks guys!

Canna seeds are hard, round, smooth and look like tiny pebbles - maybe 1/2 - 3/4 the size of a pea. Something as small as a poppy seed would not be a canna seed.

It sounds like you had immature pods. When they make seeds, you will have big brown pods with kind of hairy stuff sticking off of them. When you peel them back you will find big hard seeds like Sandra said. Do you want a pic of some?

Okay- mine did that BS- they got really dry too. I broke them open and the seeds were very tiny! Maybe they just didnt develope? Oh well, I planted them- we shall see what happens,hehe.

Why bother to propogate from seed. They spread so quickly from rhizomes. I have dug up so many and from little pieces of roots that I missed, others have sprung up. Also, the red Canna may be a hybrid and the seed might not come true as the parent plant. Recently, I have seen many variations of Canna from the traditional white, to pink and yellow.

nada- I want to send some seeds to another country. Seeds are cheaper to ship than rhizomes. :)

Well that explains everything. Sorry for the intrusion. A neighbor of mine is visiting Taiwan this summer and wrote that she has a strange kind of fruit over there, purple on the inside but not a pommegranite. Will be receiving some seeds also. I am also game for unusual plants.
