TC's Challenge - Please help

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Morning all. I will quit in 21 hours, 12 minutes and 53 seconds.. You guys are all wonderful of couse I already knew that but this thread is a great testimonial.
((((((((((((((( DG'S))))))))))))))))
Liz YEAH!!!!!!! feels good to have a quit buddy the journal is a great idea I have used them often to get over rough parts of my life I think this will qualify. You can use my stats if you want I will post them often. And if you or I slip I have lots on non-smoking friends that will let me use there computer to download us seperatly but hopefully we will both succeed the first time cause I don't want to go thru those first 3 days any more often then I have to. Cause if my memory serves me from my practice quits in the past I remember they are the worse

ponditis had a very good point a slip does not spell failure it can be a learning experiance why did I? How do I not again? etc... I hope to do this slip free but if by chance I do I will try to keep that in mind I have a tendency to beat myself up pretty bad which in the long run only makes things worse.

Eco I could not agree more... It is never too late to start quitting the more the merrier. Besides if someone starts quitting after me I can use that as motivation to be an inspiration like the ones who quit before me have been for me. So come on board I hear everything smells and tastes great on this boat I hope to know myself soon just how great .

Sandy

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

Good for you Sandy. :)

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Hey, just for y'alls information I smoked Kool Lights. Started smokin to be "cool" back in oh...let me see, born in '56...was 15 at first puff, so that'd put the year of my coolness at 1971.

Smoking to be "cool" is still a motivating factor for teens. A good friend of mine has a teenage daughter and I asked her why she thought some of her friends started smoking. Her answer..."to be cool."

But guess what? When you quit smoking your "coolness" goes up another level. My kids think I'm even cooler now.
I reckon that means I can let my pony tail grow a little bit longer.

I have proof that my DS thinks I'm cool, here it is:

I think this thread is so great, every time someone wants to smoke they should just come here and start reading this thread.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8b)

Well Sandy it's geting close. I haven't bought anymore cig. since the last time I was on. I slowed down so I wouldn't run out before time(that's bad isn't), but I haven't bought any. I hope that's a good sign. It's a good time to by a "journal" with school starting back and all the sales. I got 3-5 subject notebooks. It's easier for me to write feelings than talk, so I'm used to writing. I better tell myself not to make the notebook x rated.LOL.
Counting down!! Liz

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

You can write here too remember! :)

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Lizbar Yes the count down is on no I think slowing down to last a little longer is perfectly normal I am doing the same thing. LOL great minds do think alike .

Eco are you sure you really want me to post the first few days :-0 just kidding I am sure I/we will continue writing here too afterall I would not have even been able to make this choice much less stick with it without you all.

Sandy

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

Sure! Just use words like darn it and gosh golly. LOL :)

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Ya'll are just awesome! On your mark! Get set! GO!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Carla...can you start a "part two"/continuation? This one is getting rather long. (Or will it take away from all the positivity that is appearing in this thread? Hate to see this excitement dwindle!)

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

I don't think it would! In the first post we should list all the quitters and their start dates. :)

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Good suggestion Horseshoe. And I dont reckon I'll let "part two" take away any positive aspects of this wonderful thread!

18 Days Smoke Free!!

TC...

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

TC is proud as a peacock! And has every right to be!

Good goin', TC. Congrats! Keep on keepin' on!!

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Can you hear all the hand clapping, bells ringing and whistle blowing coming from Nashville TN?

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Shoe! I was thinking the same thing. I have Cable Internet and get impatient when I can't immediately click on "skip to new". :)

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

This thread absolutely has me in tears and I have never been a smoker.
My DH has though and he said that when he quit, it was because he saw an old man come into the grocery store where he worked. This guy was pulling his oxygen tank that was attached to the trach in his neck and he bought cigarettes to smoke through the hole in his neck. The man was wheezing like he could barely breath even with a huge hole in his neck. My husband said he threw his cigs out the car window on the way home and has never looked back.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Hey All .... I forgot I was going to be in training all day today so I had to wait for my lunch to tell you the news so far so good. I have been quit for 13 hours and 58 seconds (0 days). I have saved $2.70 by not smoking 10 cigarettes. I have saved 50 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 7/20/2004 11:00pm. I wanted to wait till midnight but this old lady just could not wait to say goodbye to smoking.

I have a question about the Juniper berries. How many a day max??

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Wonderful to hear old_rose!! Congratulations on your entry into the ex-smoker's world! So many of you guys have joined in on the challenge and it is a wonderful thing! Keep up the good work.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Congrats ol' rose!
Re: juniper berries, only 8 to 12 per day, throughout the day, not all at once. When I took them I would eat 2 or 3 in the mornings, a few more around lunch, few more afternoon, etc. (I found myself sucking on them like candy, perhaps that was helping to curb an oral thing.)

cherishlife...glad your hubby quit. He saw a lesson right before his eyes, eh?

(Now will someone start a Part Two thread? TC? Carla?)

Prattville, AL(Zone 8a)

Congrats to all who have joined in and to those who have been smoke free.....14 days SMOKE FREE HERE!!!!! YeePeee

"Is that Tarzan up in that tree?"

"Nay,Child. He has too many clothes on to be Tarzan."

"I double dog dare you." Do kids say that anymore?
Probably not unless it is T.C.'s kids.

TC, I can't remember when I've felt better. I don't really miss the smokes that much, I do find myself reaching out as to pick up one sometimes lol funny huh? Then I remember Hey you don't smoke anymore...YeePee!!!!

I owe a lot to the people posting on this thread, I've come here when weak and lurked and prayed and found strength when I needed it, for that I thank you all...

One thing I know for sure, There IS strength in Numbers...

DG's ROCKS!!!!

Hug's Carol

Hang in there Liz, you'll get it...just keep trying

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Liz, you absolutely have NOT failed. It is one hour at a time to begin with and there is never a bad time to get started so you might just start quitting NOW. I am pulling for you all the way as are many more here. Do not think it is failing--it is just a small pothole in the road to smoke free. Hugs for you too. Lani

Carol and TC and all the rest of you now non-smokers, you all have guts and the willpower to quit and I salute all of you.

SALUTE!!!!

Hugs, Lani

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Hi everyone. I can't believe I decided to quit on a day when I had no access to your support here.

Liz you did not fail you just had a practice quit.. Every "practice quit" I had taught me a little more It just means this was not the right time for you yet not that you can't do it ever. I still love ya and I know you'll be done with smoking when your ready.

Well I can still say so far so good no smoke here yet. Last night came pretty close I was searching all over for an ashtray I didn't empty that had something long enough to light in it. But there were none (learned that about me on one of my practice quits must not have anything smokeable left hanging around) I finally had a talk with my sorry self and said " Sandy; If you want to smoke go get a pack but I thought you didn't want to smoke anymore" and thank God I listened. Then I decided not to tempt thing too much and went to bed early. I will catch ya all up a little later when I catch up with everything I missed being gone yesterday. See Ya Keep praying for me please.....
Sandy

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Everyone...

I've started a new thread here http://davesgarden.com/t/445576/

Lets keep this Stop Smoking ball rolling!
What say y'all??

TC...

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Folks...don't forget to stop by the new thread and offer some words of encouragement. Some of our new-smoke-free garden buddies have rough days and need our support. Thanks for all you've done, too. This has been a joy to watch evolve.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Is there a list of all the recent non-smokers?

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Ursula, did you mean a list of recent quitters? If so, I'll try and get a list posted on the other thread.

TC...

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Yes TC, all the ones that followed your example (hey, what a responsibility!)
