TC's Challenge - Please help
Rock on, dixie! You're definitely on a roll now!
Congrats! I believe you've made it!...Just keep making it!
Good goin'!
Thanks, 'Shoe. Lol. That will definitely help!
Go dixie go!! Now you're counting hours and days, soon you'll be counting weeks and before you know it, you'll be counting years! Success! Hurray!! (p.s.watch your mail tomorrow or Thurs.)
TC, Carol, I'm so happy for the two of you!
Another idea: when I quit smoking, I promised I would give the money I was saving on cigarettes for a charity that provides shelters for the poorest of the poorest in the country (mainly abandoned children and old people) for one year. Once I made the promise, I was not able to fail them and continue contributing to this charity. This is my way to apologize to all the people I contaminated with my smoke.
The idea behind this promise was that I thought I could fail myself, but not the most helpless ones. It worked for me.
Whatever you do to quit smoking will be great and we want you to know that all of us DGardeners (specially the ex-smokers) are VERY PROUD OF THE TWO OF YOU! (and still have a hughe capacity to become proud of more members that want to quit smoking!!!!!)
Actually we'll be proud of everyone who joins in this ex-smokers party!! If you're lingering in the doorway, come on in!!!
Ok I have been lurking I will admit it. This thread is inspriational I just wanted to tell you all I have set a quit date for myself July 21 my birthday (I will be turning 26 again for the 20th time) I have smoked since I was 16. Longest quit period 1 year I used hypnotism. I have given myself a week to prepare for battle I want to be prepared cause I am going to win the battle and the war this time. I have lost all 4 grandparents, my Dad, my aunt, and a dear sweet friend all due to smoking. It is a terrible and distructive habit just wanted to give ya'all a heads up in case I need ya quick which I am sure I will I did find a really cool "quit smoking calculator" it is a free download at http://quitsmoking.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dedicateddesigns.com%2Fqk%2Findex.htm
it keeps track of how long you have been a non smoker right down to the second how much you have saved and lets you keep track of your other quitting friends so you can keep track of them and special milestone dates. So all you non participating smokers please post your quit date so I can add you to my calculater for inspiration.
Sandy
That's a great web site, Sandy, and congratulations for joining the rest of the quitters (and I mean that in the best possible way). :) Hooooorrrrraaaayyyyy!!!!!

Dixiechick and Lizbar...I'm heading your way, too. I can reinforce this thread in person. My two girls and I are headed to Montgomery, AL, later today. Hope you're ready for some company!
Wishing you a Happy Birthday now, Smiln, since you will be gone on Friday. We were almost twins, as mine is today.
Thanks Smiln and Happy early birthday. Enjoy and drive careful.
Happy birthday Elena. Hope you have a wonderful day.
Thanks old_rose. I am headed to the restaurant for my party right now. I anticipate a great day all day long, but then my days are usually great so for that I am grateful.
Old Rose/Sandy...Congrats on your decision! Go for it!
That's a good link to the free download...seems like it would add a bit of fun to ya'll process!
Will be rooting for ya!
Best wishes to all of you and success in breaking the horrible and dangerous cig. habit.
TC have a great trip and come back home safely. Donna

You're most welcome!! Figured anybody named Carol should have a 'Carol', especially for quitting smoking and hosting a secret trade! But watch out, I'm gonna make you send it back it you start smoking again... AND... I'll be down personally to thump ya! lol
Happy Birthday, Elena and Smilin32 (in advance)!!
Thanks Kooger. I had a marvelous day. In fact I can't remember ever having a better birthday in my whole life. Can't get much better than that, can it?
old_rose- I checked out the website. Is it a site for when you quit? I put it in my favorites so I can go back and download it.
Happy Birthday Elena!! Hope your day was great!!!!
Dixiechick- I emailed a while back when I saw you were in P'ville. Are you still there? I live in Mont.
Does anyone know if Friday is smiln32 b'day? Thanks
Keep on going T.C. I think about you everyday and pray you cont. to not pick up. I hate this habit.
Liz
Just ran across this post & wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS to all you quitting smoking...
I am very proud of you.
And for incentive, It is not only your lungs you are saving, (you can hear improvement in as little as 2 days) BUT it is your Heart!
My hubby had low cholesterol, low BP, low Triglycerides, you name it, good health & exercise habits... and He had a quadruple bypass in April.
WHY? The Cigarettes. (he smoked 3-4 a day.)
So please, it ain't fun. Good Luck & God Bless you all.
Lizbar yes it is more fun once you quit but since I have set my quit date I downloaded it mine says "I will quit in 5 Days, 22 hours, 16 minutes and 25 seconds." It also calculates my "milestones" and those of my quit buddies which reminds me dixiechick this is your 1 week mark isn't it?? As long as I am posting I wanted to try to clear up what I meant by non-participating smokers since its misleading and sound kinda snotty if you don't know me. I know from the times that I have quit before that just 1 cigarette is too many for me so I will make a concious decision every day not to participate in my addiction therefore a "nonparticipating smoker" I hope some day I will feel like a non-smoker but until then I hope to at least not participate for the rest of my life. Deciding to quit is a very difficult and personal decision I didn't want anyone to think I was being pushy. Thanks for letting me ramble.
Sandy

tc congrats and everyone else who has quit or is trying!
I quit 25yrs ago cold turkey! :)
Drink lots of juice and take lots of showers-this gets the nicotine out of your body and washed off!
prayers n more prayers that ya'll can quit and stay quit!
good luck my friends~
I am still praying for all of you who are trying to quit. I know that you are bound to be feeling better all the time even though you are fighting those awful cravings. I am so proud of all of you.
Yes, it is Friday that Smiln will be celebrating her birthday but she is on a roadtrip and won't be online for her birthday. Thank you all for your birthday wishes for me yesterday. Actually I can say that it was my very best birthday ever. I had so many people telling me how much I was loved that I just floated around all day on a cloud. We all love to be loved, don't we? I know I do.
Hey Liz, I didnt get your email, but I am still in P'ville & would love to hear from you...
Sandy, It is my 1 week mark!!!! Thank you for remembering :-)
I've never felt better!!!! After I made the decisoin to quit and got myself ready for it (my mind). When I woke up last Thursday morning for the first time I can remember I didnt reach for the smokes as soon as my feet hit the floor & it went from there. I've had some tough times this last week but I didnt give in. I did use the patches some & I really think that helped me a lot...
Today I'm Still Smoke Free and I'm enjoying life more everyday. Everything smells better, tastes better and No more NASTY Ashtrays to wash!!! lol
I'm here if anybody needs help...please feel free to send email or post here....
Hug's, Carol
Yah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it up girl! And everyone else too!
Yay, dixie/Carol! Keep up the good work...you'll be an inspiration to many folks!
Congrats! And remember to treat yourself to a reward from time to time!!!
You guys ROCK -- way to go!
Speaking of ashtrays, I read one ex-smoker's suggestion and thought it was a good one. He said he put cigarette butts and ashes in an empty mason jar with some water. Whenever he thought about smoking, he'd unscrew the lid and get a whiff of that nasty stuff. The longer it sat, the worse it smelled.
Wish that'd work with chocolate. ;)
Lol! Let's don't ruin our chocolate, now. At certain times-if you know what I mean-chocolate is a NECESSITY!!!!
Now don't be going overboard. Quit chocolate!! I don't think so. LOL
Keep up the good work on quitting those cigarettes, guys.
Bill
Yeah, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Chocolate's okay in moderation. ;)
Hey Guy's, My reward for week 1 Smoke Free was making Nice Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies....yummmmm.....hehe
Thanks everyone for the wonderful support....
You all ROCK!!!!
Hug's,Carol
Carol, that's great. Pass the plate and let's celebrate!
Hey TC - way to go. Here's a little ditty my dad used to tell us, maybe it will help you get through another day or at least give you a laugh .......
Tobacco is a dirty weed, sown by the devil
Robs a man's pocket, soils his clothes and
makes a chimney of his nose.
My dad was a 3 pack a day man of roll your own, when he quit he used to say this ditty to himself every time he felt the urge for a puff.
My DH was a little more interested in "what" he would get if he quit. So every day for a year I gave him in cash what he would have spent on cigarettes. Well, at the end of the year he was so excited about all the money he had in his wallet and sock he went right out and bought himself a treat with some of it. I figure he earned it whatever he wanted was not my business. Just know I was broke not him.
Every day is a new day ....you are doing great.
Dianne
Dianne, TC is taking a trip to Mississippi (I think it is Mississippi) with his kids and won't be back for a few days. I feel sure he will answer this post when he returns.
Just stopped in to say hey & I'm still Smoke Free...YeePeee!!
I'd sure hate to have to send kooger that huge 'Carol' hosta back...hehehe....
kooger, if i get to wanting one I'll take a walk in my 'Garden of Friends' and look at that beautiful hosta you sent and remember you said "if I start back you'll take back the 'Carol' and come thump me"...Ouch!!!!
Guess I better not pick up that nasty habit again... :-)
Hugs. Carol
Yay! Congrats on another day! Ya done good!
How does it feel? Do ya wanna run and holler out loud yet? Freak the neighbors out? Scream "hey ho!"?
Keep up the good work! You're doing great!
Carol ,good for you. Things starting to smell different, can you taste more things? Bet you don't miss the fuzzy garbage mouth in the morning.!A week is a long time, enjoy each day and think about that hosta.
Dianne
DC (Carol), just think of all the hosta you will be buying with all the money you aren't spending on cigs. Get out a catalog and start marking the ones you can afford now with what you would have spent if you were still smoking. I would think that would be quite an incentive to keep on doing great like you are!
I am so proud of all of you quitters. What a great thread this is and I hope we can continue to get more hooked on not being hooked anymore.
Happy Gardening, Lani
I am still cheering you guys on. How are you all doing with the quitting, by the way?
Yay! and Hurray! Keep it up Carol! Boy, I can still remember that fuzzy mouth feeling...yuck! Bet you won't be missing that! Keep on walking in the garden...stay away from those cigs!
