2 Broken Bones and 2 Busted Teeth (OUCH)!!!

Cape May Court House, NJ(Zone 7a)

Well I spent 6 hours in the ER last night with one of the twin's, Austin.

They were over a neighbor's house and he was jumping over ramps on his bike and the boy went right off the side and landed on his left arm and face!!! YIKE'S!!!! This was after a day of riding their new Honda Dirtbike's that Dad just had to buy!!!! (i wanted to smack him)

His two front teeth were broken when the handlebars went through his lip and smashed his teeth, he also has a fractured wrist. Then late today I get a call from the Doc at the ER and he tells me that they missed another break just below the knuckle of his index finger and I need to get him to the Orto Doctor so they can put a FULL cast on it !!!!!

So now I am not sure weather to get him to the orthopedic specialist first so he can do more trick's on his bike and ride the new honda that DH bought or to the dentist so the kid can talk right and eat!!!! LOL

It's going to be a LONG summer!!!!! hehe

Not a fun thing for him to do on a holiday weekend. Of course, it wasn't a fun thing for him to do anytime. :~/

Maybe you should invest in a ton of bubblewrap for the boys and some duct tape for your DH and wrap your DH tightly so he can't take them shopping again. lol

He (and you) will be in my prayers. I think your DH owes you a BUNCH of hostas now. :)

(you can at least try that idea on him)

Oh You are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Right Ponditis!!!

I think half of what the bills are going to be to fix Austin up is about right to spend on some NEW plant's, and I will save just a little to spend at Home Depot on Bubble Wrap and Duct Tape!!!!!! LOL

Bless your heart Sue, Boys will be boys , I know raised two and now have 4 grandsons (just like there dads) a wreck looking for a place to happen! lol

Seems I spend a lot of time at the ER too..They know us so well, we walk right past the front desk straight into the room & wait for the doc.

I'm sorry to hear he was hurt & will need new teeth & a cast,
I also agree with ponditis on the new Hosta's..you should get a nice amount of $ to spend..

Hope he gets better soon

Our youngest son was chasing a basketball when he fell & broke one of his front teeth. He was a teen at the time & they made a new false tooth for him, sooo, they don't have to be riding a bike or anything real dangerous to get hurt.
Will have you & your sons (family) in my prayersl

I can sympathise with you except mine is a girl!!!! My daughter refused to play any position other than backcatcher for her soft ball team. She was the smallest and quickest on the team so she wanted that position. I was so worried for her every game then the night came..... A "strong" opponent stepped up to bat---- I just got chills down my neck and the opponent swung hard and hit my daughter right in the mouth!!!! knock her and her teeth out... Smooth out!!! Loaded her up in the ambulance and off the the ER we go. Her teeth came back in but was all crooked from the blow so in about 6 weeks we get the braces off!!!! She refused to quit playing ball and stayed in that position--- so don't think for a second it is just a "boy" thing.

You're right, humblebumble! I can testify to it's not just a boy thing. I'm the middle of 9 but the closest sisters are 4 yrs. older and 4 yrs. younger so I played with the boys. I can show you battle scars just about everywhere - I rarely had a summer without stitches! Thankfully the only broken bones I collected were 'baseball' fingers from catching the ball without BB gloves - they were pricey and more kids didn't have them than had them! My mom's advice to herself was - 'this too shall pass' - helps one cope with lots of bad situations!! :) ...praying for good and quick healing!

Ohhhh, my toes are curling after reading this thread! Thank God for helmets...Thank God he wasn't brain injured. But they only protect so much, LOL!

Heber Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

gardenwife--- My daughter had her helmet on and the dang bat came right between her mask and hat! To this day I still get chill bumps at just the thought of her being "KO" ed. It was so scary. But if every cloud has a silver lining she has some beautiful teeth!!!! Thank God! Marie

I've seen cracked bike helmets discarded in trash and thought how good it is the helmets are cracked. Doesn't help handlebars or baseball bats, but at least the noggin's protected!

Cape May Court House, NJ(Zone 7a)

GW, Austin WAS wearing his helmet at the time!!!

Marie, the same thing happened to my sister playing softball year's ago. She was also the catcher (i played 2nd base) and the bat was thrown and it went right into her mask and busted her front teeth!!!!

Ruby, I never said he wasn't. I said thank God he was!

Oh I know GW, you are sure right about them helping when kid's try to FLY!!! LOL

My neighbor who's house it happened at just kept saying over and over... "THANK GOODNESS YOUR BOYS ALWAY"S WHERE THEIR HELMET'S" !!!!!!!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

I wear a helmet these days when I ride my horse too. I only wish they were available when we were kids because I knew several who will never be "normal" again due to horse wrecks. I am very glad your boys knew enough to wear their helmets or you might be telling us a totally different thing about them.

Have you gotten any of those new plants yet? :~)

Gee, he sounds like some of our children. Our youngest daughter lost 2 front teeth to a softball when she was about 7. Kyle tried to play Tarzan and took the door out of the hayloft when he was about 6 or 8. He is also the one who lost the front tire on his bike while riding full speed across a cattle guard and hung the forks in the cattleguard. He did a nose first skid down the gravel drive. We didn't come home till 2 hours later. He wasn't alone tho. The other children were here and did the best they knew how. He didn't know anything for several hours. The ER doctor picked lots of gravel out of his mouth and face, had to stitch his lower lip back on on the inside, and we looked for 3 days for the broken tooth in his gum. Turns out he had lost it at school on day and never told us! This was on a holiday weekend too. When he was 12 he grabbed his already angry mare by the tail and she rewarded him with a kick that cost him his spleen, 3 ribs broken off his spine where he landed on a large rock in the drive, injured kidney, and a near brush with death from blood loss. We all pray his son does NOT follow in his footsteps.

I'm so glad for helmets and that Austin was wise enough to be wearing his. Unfortunately we can't protect them from everything. I use to work in a rehab hospital and saw some sad case results of no helmets, no seat belts, driving too fast, driving while intoxicated, just being fooish while driving or riding bikes, motorcycles, etc. My DH is still living with the results of a back tire blowing on his motorcyle on a gravel road. He took the brunt of the accident to save his passenger.
