Introducing my friend Ursula!

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

Hi everybody, at the end of March, I went to Santiago, that is 680 Km north from Temuco, the town where I do live.

Previously, I did contact Ursula and we made arrangement to hold a DG's Chilean Roundup.........

Well. we did have a 100% attendance. LOL !!!

Cristina.
(I'm the one on the left, with the dark hair!)

I thought it was more difficult to post photos, that's why I did not post it before !

Well Hi you two! Nice to meet you both "face to face."

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I wish I was there!!! So good to see you two!

Crossville, TN

WOW! You tweo must of had a wonderful round up...I hope you make it a yearly (or more) thing. Friends are great. Jo

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

two wonderful ladies. I'm so pleased to meet you after all this time.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

He folks, Cristina is fooling you: I'm the one at the left of the picture (wish I was).

Unfortunately, there was not enough time to talk about all the subjects we wanted. I think we would have to meet at least once a week to do so LOL.

Cristina gave me the beautiful Fuchsias you can see at the right side of the picture, plus some allium bulbils and other NN bulbils.

I also met one of her sons, Rod (a very nice and good looking young man), who shot the picture.

Now we have the double amount of members in Chile: FOUR!!! I hope next time we meet Azulillo and Illalolen join us.

Thank you all for your kind words,

Ursula

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh you ladies -- great to finally see you! :) How large is Chile, and is it all fairly accessible by auto?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

You two look great and it's so nice to finally see you! I bet you had a wonderful visit :) Cristina, now that you know how to post pictures you'll have to get out there and show us some of the unique Chilean flora!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

This thread is wonderful! I lived in Chile for 18 months when we sailed to Puerto Montt from Seattle and lived there for 2 summers (sailing in the Patagonian Chanels) and 1 winter (living in PM, travelling through Chile). The flora is fantastic...wild fushia everywhere...Gunnera to die for...Bromiliads, Orchids (of a sort), wonderful people, great food...Ay...vida rica!

I send a big hug (un abrazo fuerte) to you in Chile...que Dios les bendiga!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Cristina, how wonderful that you could make the trip and you two could meet! That's quite a trip - about 450 miles I think. Could you drive that in one day or is the way full of mountains and roads where you can't drive very fast?

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

What a thrilling vacation this must have been for both of you. I'm so glad you were able to get together.

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

I'm back here again, a big Thanks to everyone of you, is lovely to have you and feel part of this big friendly family.

To go to Santiago, that is Chile's capital city, it takes 7 hours, there is a very good freeway , it is a cold, unfriendly but a fast road, I do prefer the old highway where you could stop at many places to have a "cupa" or a drink and you could do a lot more sightseeing than now , it was a long trip but enjoyable, used to be a 10 hour drive . And you had to stop due to the road conditions

When travelling now, usually we leave Temuco at about 2 am reaching the crazy pace of Santiago at about 9am.

I'm sending this pic of a native plant called Topa-Topa, calceolaria biflora yellow flowers with a "lady's slipper" shape.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

That is hysterical! RU for two and 100% attendance! LOL It is great to *SEE* both of you. So nice that you could meet!

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

What? A round up that Jo missed? Seriously, its good to meet both of you! I would have loved to have been there!

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

Christina and Ursula
Having emailed both of you on a couple of occassions it is so nice to put faces to the names.
What a gift you have gotten being able to meet each other and discuss your own special growing conditions.
I attended the Iowa Round up this spring and will never forget the experiece of meeting so many of my fellow DG'ers.

You have probably made lifelong friendships due to your love of gardening and I don't think life can get much better than that!
Alice

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

Alice, how nice of you!

Of course you're right. Gardeners are the best of friend.

Badseed, I met Ursula thanks to DG's, and I hope to meet her again, when I go to Santiago again. She has lots of knowledge about native flora and she usually has a good selection of chilean seeds.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Very nice to see you both! :)

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

Nice comments for very nice people!

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Thank you all for your nice comments.

True, Cristina and I met through D'sG and started e-mailing each other quite often and once had a telephone conversation that lasted over an hour LOL. Therefore, when we physically met, I only added a face to somebody I already felt as a very dear friend.

Aloha, how wonderfull to sail through our fjords for two summers. I guess sailing the wide oceans and meeting different cultures is the dream of many, including me. Gracias, benditos los amigos extranjeros que nos visitan.

Kooger, want to start Calceolaria biflora from seed? It's easy. They are perennials and remain all winter long under several feet of snow in their natural habitat (Andes Mountains). They should do fine in your climate! E-mail me.

Badseed, we were very serious about the attendance of all chilean members to this first national DG round-up; NONE of us wanted to miss it!

djm, I have been playing for a while with the idea of proposing the First International Dave's Garden Round Up to be held in Chile. Do you think Jo would attend? This would be during our spring-months (somewhere between Sept. and Dec.) and, depending on the people interested, I would organize a nice tour through our country to visit gardens, national parks, Andes Mountains, thermal bads, etc. What do you think?

Alice, I agree with you: each new friend is a gift (and I do not have many friends, but have very good friends). And Dave's Garden with our super-Dave, super-Trish, super-Terry and all its super-members is a wonderful gift to my life.

When will we see you Karrie?

Cristinchen, will meet you again anytime you want!

Love you, folks!

Ursula

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Oh Ursula,

you just haven't followed the right threads to see me is all! :)

I'm here fishing on the beach (hubby is fishing to - and no wonder he didn't catch any) you'll have to scroll a little down to get to it.

Cristina and Ursula,
Really so happy seeing you two face to face.
Cristina,I remeber you sent me the giant pumpkin seeds.
Ursula,I do not forget you mailed me a big seed envelope.

PS.Topa topa is uniquely lovely.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

It is great to put the faces to the names. Howdy you all.

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

Hello HoniBee. good "to see you" around!

Jianhua how are thing? Hope you could have some holiday soon to go and visit your home town. If I can get some seed from the Topa-Topa this summer ( January/Feb 2005) I could send you some.

Karrie20X, I love your fishing and what a tan you do get!!!!

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

Ursula, I'm sure if you held an International Daves Garden Round up, Jo would get there! She was cruising around the states this spring looking for people to visit and if she knew YOU were having a Round Up, she'd have been there! (I think I would have tried to hitch a ride too!)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

only way to fish when the boat's not in the water! :) It will be for the 4th of July - but I have a feeling it will be used mostly to haul the kids around for skiing and tubing. Hopefully Russ and I will be able to use it in the mornings and early evenings to "get away" from the chaos - the whole family is going to be there that weekend, so we are talking about 40 people - Russ and I will have to sleep in a tent this time, oh well! :)

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

Ursula,
If you are serious about having an international round-up, We would come if it is later than, say mid October, so we could travel from the Tampa area. We spend (North American) summers in New York and winters in Florida. We have people who will care for our 4 cats in FL but not in NY so it would have to be in our winter time frame. I'll watch the thread as best I can but if it comes to fruition please e-mail me.
Dave (kikisdad)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Ursula, greetings from Alaska! We have traded seeds, if you might recall. It is nice to see your picture.

OSAKA, Japan(Zone 9b)

Hi,Ursula and cristina,I'm sooo happy to see you!

Ursula, I'm gratified I have Chilean native flowers blooming at the opposite side and so grateful to you for your ever-generous trading.

Please take a look of Schizanthus coccineus and S.hookerii that boomed this spring.

Jianhua, it's so good to see you are back at DG!!!!! Yes, I remember having sent you seeds, but they must have been sowed at your previous school. If you e-mail me your home address, I will be glad to send you a new assortment including Topa Topa.

Thanks HoniBee & djm906.

Karrie, I was only able to find your DH's picture. Would you e-mail me yours?

Kikisdad, as you already found out, you motivated me to post at the Roundup Forum LOL http://davesgarden.com/t/439652/

Weezingreens, of course do I remember you and our double trade LOL. Check my seed-list and let me know if there is anything you would like to have http://davesgarden.com/t/439190/

TomTom, I'm so glad to hear the seeds I sent you are doing well in your garden! However, the Schizanthus pictures you posted here ..... I hope that's not the best they did for you.

Cristinchen, want some Topa Topa seeds?

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

Wow Ursula, if you've got any, keep them for the next Rondup and whatever else you have!. I love Topa-Topa and Schizanthus, and Calle-Calle and.... and....

Shangshui, Henan, China(Zone 7b)

Hi,you twin sisters,
Ursula, you guess right. The flower seed assortment was donated to my former school. And on account of this,
the school principal sang high praise of me.:)
Cristina, the giant pumpkin seeds were delivered to my brothers to try growing.hehehe Yes,like the name shows,
the creepers were really unique. The leaves are three times as big as the common ones, save we did not see any babies born.
(might because of overusing nitrogenous fertilizer).

Jianhua, e-mail me your address. I would love to send you more seeds.

Mitjo, thak you very much. However, I enjoy much more the pictures you post than my own portrait LOL.

Hi pebble! Thanks for your kind words. I'm already planning the 1st International DG RU http://davesgarden.com/t/439652/
Will you and your DH join us?

Shangshui, Henan, China(Zone 7b)

Hi again,
Ursula & Cristina,
You each have 'a heart of gold',
as we Chinese describle a person
who is always thinking of no taking but giving.
As you know,I am now teaching high school
far away from my hometown,
so there are no alternatives
but have to leave my dear little home garden
in half-hibernation temoperily.
If more seeds fly over in me, I am afraid that
I will have no way to deal with them.Hehehe
Do you like some specialities from China?
Just let me know.
Jianhua
(on school summer vacation now)

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

jianhua, at the time that you would be ready for gardening, just send me a mail and I'll send you seeds.

Only if it is not a problem to you and if you do collect (not buy) any seed from a tree or any plant, herb, I'll be happy to get native chinese stuff.

My love to you and your family
Cristina
