Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

This is my find for today. Walmart has pineapple lilies, very healthy ones, for 4.97. Eucomis bicolor.

WHY??? Oh WHY???? sob. sniffle.

We must have the world's worst selection of plants at our "big box" outlets - Lowe's and HD never carry the nice hostas others find, and the WM gets few really cool plants.

Ahhh, well - maybe it's God's way of telling me I need to keep my checks in my check register and my debit card in my wallet ;o)

GREAT plant, kudos on snagging it!

I got my first two "bulbs" here at NW Seed & Pet this year. They are up and growing, not blooming yet, of course. I always try to do one new "exotic" per year for Russ. He likes to see "different" looking plants. So I chose these for this year. Sure hope they turn out like the picture! Mine are the Eucomis bicolor as well. They're in my front garden so if they do bloom, hope they aren't so showy that one of the neighborhood children comes by and decides it's a nice present for mom! :)

So, for those of us who live somewhere colder than USDA Zone 8, can you dig them up and store them overwinter?

Terry,
I have had these for 3 years now. I left them in the pot and brought in the pot the first year, so I don't see why you couldn't dig them and store the bulbs, as I ordered mine from a catalog company and they looked as though they had been in storage, then Lowe's got them in and they were in the packaged bulb area.

I bought some of these last year and just knew they didnt make it since I didnt dig them up. You have no idea how tickled I was when I saw one coming back with a sucker/pup. Now I have all three of the origonals plus the baby. I mulched them about 4 inches and crossed my fingers and they didnt start coming up till the beginning of June but I am not complaining.
This was after all the snow we had this year too and a bunch more got piled on top of these because of the plows.
I really need to go take a pic.

Terry,

From what I've read, yes - I can dig them up (just as I do with my Dahlias) and store them in a cool dry place (like my basement) in the wintertime, then plant them again next Spring.
